Silver Promise Rings

A promise is made between two people and is typically meant to be kept for some time. So to signify this promise, a promise ring can be exchanged between two people. There are many types of promise rings available: diamond, titanium, gold, white gold and silver promise rings, to name a few. There are also many reasons to exchange promise rings: to signify the sealing of a long relationship between two people, to promise not to have sex until marriage, or perhaps to signify being a member of a cult or religious group.

Silver, used for both practical and ornamental purposes, is a metal that has a staying power. It is the most plentiful and least expensive of the earth’s more precious metals like gold and palladium. Silver is a metal that has been used since the time of ancient civilizations to make everything from dishes to armor and crafted jewelry like silver promise rings. As such, a person with a small budget for a promise ring could ideally opt for a silver promise ring. As silver is a malleable and ductile metal, the silver promise ring could be inscribed with lovely, private wordings to seal the relationship.

However, one of the disadvantages of exchanging silver promise rings is that since silver is susceptible to tarnishing and scratching, the silver promise ring might become tarnished and scratched in the long run. To maintain the life of the silver ring, it should be stored in a cool, dry place and regularly rubbed with a polish and polishing cloth.

White Gold vs. Platinum Wedding Bands

Part of the beauty of an engagement is choosing a wedding band. With today’s choices, a couple has far more options than ever before. Yellow gold will always be a timeless classic, but wedding bands, just like the times, are changing. Today’s most popular options are white gold or platinum. There is an assumption that because of the same, shiny, whitish color, both metals are equivalent. However, that could not be further from the truth.

A white gold ring is an alloy of regular gold combined with other metals such as silver and palladium or nickel. Part of what makes white gold look almost identical to platinum is a finishing process that occurs when the ring is being made. The white gold ring is finished with a coating of Rhodium, a metal that shares many of Platinum’s properties. While white gold is naturally a light shade of gray or has a slight yellow tint because of the natural color of gold, the Rhodium coating gives the completed ring a sparkly white color. The main downfall to a white gold ring is that without proper care, the Rhodium will eventually wear off and change the color of the ring. With proper replatement every 1-3 years, the rhodium will stay lustrous and the ring beautiful.

Platinum differs from gold because it is used almost entirely in its pure form when making a platinum wedding band, as opposed to being combined with different metals. Platinum rings do not need to be treated with Rhodium because the natural color of platinum is the desired shining white. Platinum is a good material to choose if you are harder on things, or constantly on the go, because it wears longer. It is a heavier, denser metal, which allows it to be more scratch-resistant than white gold. The downside is that platinum, because it is not mixed to make up the composition of the wedding band, tends to be far more expensive. The normal guideline when shopping for rings is to expect a platinum wedding band to be up to two to four times more expensive than its white gold counterpart, depending on the complexity of the design and the weight (gold or platinum content) of the wedding ring.

To see a sample of a white gold or platinum wedding band, online wedding band stores are an excellent resource. They offer an excellent way of researching or shopping for your perfect wedding ring! Regardless of your choice of metal, both white gold and platinum make for a beautiful wedding band.

The prom season is back again, and so is a wide range of designer jewelry to help ladies grace themselves during the colorful season. The entire collection of jewelry designed for the upcoming season, including bangles, earrings, bracelets, pendants, chains, etc will be giving ladies a wider option to choose from. However, this upcoming prom season has some different things to offer. The focus this season is on necklaces. Necklace jewelry comes in a wide variety of shapes, colors, price and more, making it the best companion for ladies. No matter of your race, color, and economy, you will definitely find a necklace that suits you best.

Chokers are expected to do exceptionally well this prom. These are tight fitting necklaces worn high on the neck and can consist of one or more bands around the neck. Chokers generally vary between 14 to 16 inches in length and can be adjusted accordingly to the thickness desired. The best thing about chokers is that they suit best for long and slender necks as well as short necks. A thick choker with some diamond pendant is the best for a long neck while a slender one with a small and elegant stud compensates for a shorter neck. In short, whatever is the body type, chokers suite all.

One of the latest incorporation in chokers and necklaces is Larimar, a brilliant blue gemstone. Larimar is rare and exclusive because of the fact that it is found in a small inaccessible region in the Dominican Republic. Though Larimar is one of the latest additions in the list of exclusive gemstones, it is doing wonderfully especially when necklace jewelry is concerned. Its color, shape, magnificence, splendor—all makes it one of the most wanted gemstone.

Gay Wedding Ring: Symbol of Love and Equality

Filed under:University of Jewelers — posted on @ 8:54 am

A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion for many people, although for an increasing number of persons, it has become a several-in-a-lifetime event. In any case, it is still a very special ceremony that binds not only a man and a woman together; today, gay male couples and gay women couples also observe the ceremony to affirm their lifelong commitment to each other. In such ceremonies, the gay wedding ring takes center stage.

Same-sex marriage is still illegal in the majority of U.S. states and in countries all over the world, so what gay couples opt for is to participate in a “commitment ceremony,” where the exchange of gay wedding rings also takes place. A gay wedding ring most often resembles the traditional gold or platinum wedding band. Of course, the couples are free to have the designs or the metal they wish for their gay wedding ring. Gay-related symbols are often engraved on the rings, and various textures and effects are available as well. Irish and Scottish rings, multicolored rings, woven rings – a wealth of options is available.

Homosexual and lesbian couples who have exchanged or are planning to exchange gay wedding rings in commitment or blessing ceremonies include Rosie and Kelly O’Donnell, and actress Sophie Ward and Rena Brannan. British musician Sir Elton John and David Furbish have also talked about getting married as soon as gays are legally allowed to join together in matrimony in Great Britain.

Jewelry designers such as Udi Behr are recognizing the need of “unconventional” couples to affirm their commitment to one another. Behr created a collection of gay wedding rings and gay engagement rings called “Love and Pride” in support of the gay rights movement. Behr, who is himself straight, is a popular designer among celebrities; famous people who buy his work include Sharon Stone and Britney Spears.

As with heterosexual couples, gay couples see their weddings bands as a tangible symbol of their love and commitment to one another. Notwithstanding governmental indifference to or disapproval of their needs and wishes, gay people will go on standing for what they believe is their right. The gay wedding ring, aside from its romantic connotations, has also become a symbol of the large part of homosexual culture in today’s society.
