Why Paid Inclusion is Better than PPC Advertising

When search engines pay website owners a percentage of the bid cost, you’re just looking for trouble. This is the problem with Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising, especially with smaller named search engines. Many websites request or even pay there visitors to search a specific search engine and click on a result. This just sends advertisers fake leads and causes problems for the advertisers that paid for the keyword listing. Many PPC search engines offer webmasters up to 80% of the bid price. For example, let’s say I pay ‘Example Search Engine’ $1 for the keyword Viagra, they then pay webmasters $.80 per visitor they send that searches and clicks on a bided search term. You can see why PPC can be a problem.

Paid Inclusion offers a safer, less expensive form of search engine advertising. You pay one price to have your site listed in a specific search engine, often under a specific keyword. Your site will also be updated on the search engines data base more often then non paid sites. Paid Inclusion costs and average of $25 a year per URL submitted. Plus the cost goes down the more URL’s you submit at one time. PPC usually starts at $.01 per click being the cheapest bid per keyword, but you’d be lucky to find a keyword that low that would result in any clicks.

Something to be aware of when advertising on PPC search engines. Although you are paying for your site to be viewed in a search engine, many times your site will show up on other people websites. This is a common practice on both Google and Overture search engines. Advertisers have to opt out of this service if they only want to be shown in the search engine,. In my opinion, this will help reduce fraudulent clicks of your paid search term.

This isn’t to say every PPC search engine is bad. For example, Mamma.com offers a fixed price per website category. They then rotate all the websites in a category evenly. Websites big and small get their advertising site seen the same amount of time. Before spending money on a PPC search engine be sure to read how they protect advertisers against fraudulent clicks. This will help make sure you get more for your money.

If there was only a way to eliminate fraudulent clicks in PPC advertising. It would make using this method of search engine advertising well worth the extra costs. After all, you are getting targeted hits to your site by people searching for precise keywords.

Using Google Adsense in Your Newsletter Archives

Should Ezines, newsletters that you issue weekly or otherwise, always be archived. Why not? This gives you more content pages on your web site. Search engines love you more if you have more pages of good content, so why waste your newsletters. Archive them, and get the maximum benefit of providing more content. But don’t archive sales messages, as it doesn’t count as content.

Pages on your web site are automatically in html format, but many ezine editors archive in plain text appearance. The format is html, but looks like plain text. This is usually to make it easier for other ezine marketers to pick up these articles in their text-based newsletters, and not to have to delete the html coding.

Personally, I find it much more appealing to read archived articles that have a bit of life to them, with basic html. For exampe, simple bolding of headings and sub headings. And, when your article is copied into a text editor, the bolding doesn’t show up anyway. So why not use a touch of class! and use html perks.

The most important thing I find very strange about most archived newsletters is that they do not have Google Adsense ads on the web pages. Well why not? Is it because you just didn’t think of doing it, or assumed it’s unnecessary.

Or are you assuming no one reads Google Adsense ads from your archives? If you ever go to Article directories to read or copy their articles, you will see that every page has Google Adsense ads. They make their living this way.

Your archived newsletters, those containing good content, are in that same class. My back-issues are read a lot, my archives are very popular. So I do take advantage of this fact and have added Adsense ads to them. It only takes a few minutes to do this after the mailing is done. Believe me, it’s worth it for the extra revenue potential.

Generating Inbound Links

Content

One of the best ways to encourage website owners to link to your website is to provide good quality, relevant content on your website. As the content contained within your website grows, more and more website owners will consider your website a good source of information. As they add content to their own sites they may refer to related information on your site and therefore create an Outbound Link (OBL) to your website.
But what content should you add? It is important to keep the content relevant to the overall concept of the website. Most websites however have a core subject matter about which the website owner should have a certain level of expertise.

  • Writing short articles explaining the basics of the core subject is often a good starting place.
  • How To? Articles are often easy to write and useful.
  • You could write ‘review’ articles.

And the list goes on. Once you have some good quality content, you then need to encourage other website owners to link to you. The first thing you could do, although it sounds counter-productive, is to allow other websites to publish your article.

Publishing Articles on other Websites

Writing good quality articles and getting them published on other websites can be a good way of generating inbound links and increased traffic. There are many websites dedicated to publishing articles on all manner of topics. Almost all of them allow you to include a brief biography about the author or the authors’ business which also allows for a link to your website.

Publishing articles in this way is good for your website for many reasons:

  • Good quality articles will establish you or your business
  • The article pages usually have few other links on them so the IBL to your website is better for your Page Rank than a link from ‘links’ page.
  • Websites publishing articles often have high levels of traffic so publishing articles on them is a good advertising method.

Provide a Service

Providing a useful service on your website is not only a good way of encouraging repeat visits to your website but is also a way of encouraging other website owners to link to that service.

Getting Reciprocal Links.

If you have followed the advice above and provide quality, relevant content and services then encouraging website owners to link to your website should be relatively easy. You will find that many website owners link to your website without any encouragement, but a little pro-activity will go a long way.
E-mail webmasters of websites which compliment your website and ask to exchange links with them. Most webmasters will agree to exchange links as it will be mutually beneficial. It is often useful to add a link to their site before e-mailing them and then in the e-mail you can direct them to the page that contains their link. You should also mention the connections between the two sites and the mutual benefits of reciprocal linking.
Generating, adding and checking reciprocal links can be time-consuming. It is however possible to add automatic reciprocal link pages to your website. These programs allow other webmasters to automatically add their link to your website. A good reciprocal link manager will allow you to verify the links before adding them to your site, will check that the website has included a link back to your site and will also periodically check the links to ensure that they remain active.

Submit your Website to Web Directories.

There are literally thousands of web directories out there, some like Yahoo and DMOZ are very generic in their coverage, others may be small and very specific. You will be able to find directories related to your websites particular subject as well as regional directories. Most allow you to submit your website free of charge, although some will require you to add a reciprocal link to their directory from your site.

Post in relevant forums.

One really good way of generating traffic and inbound links is to become a member of and contribute to web based forums. Once again there are forums on almost every subject imaginable. Some forums are very specific in their subject matter others more generic. Find some that are relevant to your website and post in them. You may even find you enjoy the online ‘banter’. Most forums will allow you to enter a ‘signature’ that will be shown at the bottom of every post you make. Make sure that you include your website address in this signature to create an inbound link on every post you make to the forums.

Post in relevant Newsgroups.

As with forums, there are newsgroups on every subject imaginable. Many newsgroups are also published on the web and can therefore be used to generate IBL if you include your web address in your signature file.

Use your e-mail Signature File.

Use your e-mail program to set up a signature file that includes a link to your website. Whenever you send an e-mail the recipient will then be able to click on the link to access your website. This won’t increase your Page Rank, but is a useful way of encouraging real visitors to your website.

Webrings.

The importance of IBLs means that there are now many websites dedicated to nothing other than the sharing of links between websites. Webrings work by connecting relevant websites. Each member of a webring displays a small banner on their site which includes a link to another relevant site. In return for displaying this banner a banner directed to your website will be displayed on the websites of the other webring members. If you can’t find a webring relevant to your particular subject, it is possible to start your own.

Easiest Way To Build Web Site Traffic

Yes, the best and easiest way to build Web site traffic is to write articles. And save A lot of time submitting them.

It is through well written articles and keeping your visitor wanting to learn more that you will see more traffic on your Web site. More traffic means more profit for you.

There are many reasons why you need to write articles. Here are just a few.
1. It is easy to do. You can write articles based on your area of expertise or niche. Even if you are not an expert you can learn by surfing the Web. Reading a few articles on the subject will enhance your knowledge to allow you to write an article.

I feel that an article should be more than 400 words but leas than 1500. Unless it’s a sales page you will tend to lose your audience with more than 1500 and not build Web site traffic.

2. You will get a pre-targeted audience. People who read your article are those who are interested in your target. Once they are interested, it doesn’t take much to get them pre-sold, increase your Web site traffic. And then ka-ching - a sale.

3. Better links. One of the ways that search engines give a site higher rankings is based on the number of “back links”. If those reading your articles are interested they will check out your Web site and bingo, you have another back link.

Links back to your site give more points to your rankings then those from your site to other Web sites.

4. Need a call for action. In most of your articles you need to let your readers know what you would like them to do. Either sign up for your e-zine, go to another page that will pre-sell them or purchase a product.
In most articles you will have a way to use a “resource box”. This is where you will put your “call to action” as well as possibly a little bit about you the author. Here is my resource box for my orchid site articles.
“Sign up for tips in our monthly Orchid Newsletter and get your copy of “All About Orchids” e-book and your 10% Discount on an orchid.
http://www.orchids-plus-more.com/orchidaceae.html

I find that the best way for me to write an article is to read 3 or 4 articles about orchids or internet business. Once I finish this I usually have a good idea about what I will write about. Possibly then read a few more articles on the topic and begin writing and watch the Web site traffic increase.

At times, some webmasters don’t have the time to write. There are many free lance writers out there who will write articles for you and not charge a lot of money. Some examples are Elance and Rent A Coder.

Once you write an article I suggest that you submit it to article directories. These are some of the best places for “new visitors” to find out about you and what you are saying. Once you get it into the directories you will notice an increase in your Web site traffic.

What a wonderful surprise when I started doing this I noticed a 30% increase in traffic within the first week. It seems the more I submit the more traffic.

You do need to know that submitting to directories is tedious work and takes time. It was taking me about 6 hours to submit to about 40 directories.

Now it takes me about 11/2 hours.

If you are working on the internet and trying to make a decent income from your website then more likely than not you are aware of the Google Adsense program, which allows you to place advertisements from Google on your website and in return receive a proportion of the advertising revenue.

Problem is if you are like most people who use Google Adsense ads you are probably disappointed at the actual income that it produces on a daily basis and wonder what you are doing wrong.

Well, first of all let me tell you that there are many people just like you and although the concept of making money with Google Adsense is simple, the actual ability to make a significant income will take some work.

Niche Marketing - Three Successful Business Models

So you’ve decided on a Niche Market, you’ve researched it,
created your product and found there’s a potential gold mine in
it, now you have to decide how you’re going to set your business
up. To help you decide here are three successful models to
consider.

Niche Business Model One - The Mini-Site

This is probably the most common model online based on a single
niche product. Here’s the process :

==> Buy a domain name based on your main keyword/phrase.

==> Create and set up a sales page and thank you/download page
(mini-site) targeting the niche.

==> Drive targeted traffic to the site.

==> Once established and producing revenue, find a different
niche and repeat the process again and again.

This model is relatively quick and easy to set up and requires
almost zero maintenance once it’s up and running. It also
provides safety in numbers, because if one of your sites fails
you still have income from all the others.

On the downside this can be quite an expensive model as each
niche you target will require a domain name and hosting for each
website unless you have a hosting package which allows you
multiple domains on the same account.

Niche Business Model Two - The Network

This model is similar to the one we covered above, but in this
case you have a series of mini-sites all focusing on a main
niche theme. Each mini-site is targeted at a different sub-niche
within the main theme and each site islinked to the others to
produce a network. If this sounds a little complicated, don’t
worry, it’s not. Here’s how it works :

==> Choose a main theme - for example Yoga.

==> Select a series of sub niches and build a mini-site for
each. This could be:

- mini-site A - Yoga for beginners

- mini-site B - Hatha Yoga

- mini-site C - Yoga mats

==> Link all the mini-sites to each other i.e. mini-site A to B
and C, mini-site B to A and C etc.

==> Drive targeted traffic to the sites.

==> Keep adding more sub-niche mini-sites and linking.

As with the Mini-Site model this is relatively quick and easy to
set up, though it does require a little more work to establish
the cross-linking of all the sites. But there is an added
advantage here that the reciprocal linking should help improve
search engine ranking for each site.

This model is also relatively maintenance free once set up,
apart from checking that all the links are working properly from
time to time. As with model one, it also provides safety in
numbers and separate income streams.

But like model one, this can also be quite expensive as each
sub-niche you target will require a separate domain name and
hosting etc.

Niche Business Model Three - The Content Site

This model is similar to number two except that the income
streams come “not” from linking individual mini-sites, but from
linking the different sub-niche sections within the same domain.
Here’s how this one works : ==> Choose a main theme - we’ll
stick with Yoga again.

==> Select a series of sub niches, for example:

- Yoga for beginners

- Hatha Yoga

- Yoga mats

==> Build content in the form of sales pages, product reviews,
articles, tips, RSS feeds etc. around each sub-niche.

==> Create links between each sub-niche using a relevant
keyword/phrase as the link name. You could also use a site map
to link all the pages in the website together.

==> Drive targeted traffic to the sub-niche pages.

==> Keep adding more sub-niches and linking.

Content sites are a lot more time consuming to set up than the
two mini-site models and require constant maintainance but the
search engines love them, so it’s well worth the time spent
building them if that’s the way you want to go.

Content sites also have the added advantage that they require
only one domain name and hosting package so they are relatively
inexpensive to run.

There are many other business models you can apply to your niche
marketing - these three are some of the most popular which are
working for a lot of people online. Try them and see what works
best for you.

Culture and Website Localization

Culture and Website Localization

With the rise in ownership of computers and internet usage growing daily, the internet is fast becoming the primary port of call for information, shopping and services. In addition, those computer and internet users are increasingly from non-English speaking countries. At the end of 2002, it was estimated that 32% of internet users were non-native English speakers. This figure is constantly rising. In response, businesses have quickly become aware of the benefits of website localization.

Website localization is the process of modifying an existing website to make it accessible, usable and culturally suitable to a target audience. Website localization is a multi-layered process needing both programming expertise and linguistic/cultural knowledge. If either is missing, the chances are that a localization project will encounter problems.

In the majority of cases it is the lack of linguistic and cultural input that lets a website localization project down. In order to give an insight into the impact culture has on website localization the following examples depict areas in which a solid understanding of the target culture is necessary.

Language in Website Localization

Translating a website from English into another language is not as simple as it may appear. There are numerous factors that have to be taken into consideration when translating a websites’ content.

Do all the words, phrases, sayings and metaphors translate directly to the target language? Would it be wise to translate the phrase “everyman for himself” in text describing a company or product if this is going to be read by a highly collectivist culture? Does the content of your website use humour and if so will the target culture appreciate or even understand it? Native alternatives should always be sought and used in any website localization.

When translating into another language carefully consider the variants. If it is to be an Arabic website then is aimed at Tunisians or Iraqis, Egyptians or Yemenis? If you are targeting all Arabic speakers then ensure Modern Standard Arabic has been employed by your translator.

One must analyse the style of the language and the target audience. If the audience is foreign business personnel, the vocabulary, grammar and punctuation must reflect this. If the audience is informal or youth orientated then a more relaxed language must used. Just as we in the UK would identify the difference between a site using ‘posh English’ and ‘street English’, other cultures will have the same perceptions of language. Using the wrong language for the wrong reader in your localization project will lead to a misunderstanding of the site or company.

It is essential to assess what information is necessary to carry over into the new site. Do not assume that all information on the English site is automatically transferred over. One must evaluate the target culture and society. Is it a culture that relies on information rich writing to fully understand a concept or product or is a culture that relies more on images or one that needs little text to grasp ideas and concepts? If your English site employs a lot of technical language then consider how best to transfer these concepts without the use of language.

Pictures in Website Localization

Images carry many subtle cultural messages within them. These can speak volumes about your company or product. Pictures or images may have certain negative connotations that may repel viewers. This is now an area that thankfully is receiving attention in website localization.

For example, if a travel site in a Muslim populated country used pictures of scantily clad women in bikinis, disco dancing and beer drinking, the chances are that they would not be very successful.

When including pictures of personnel it is wise to tailor these to what the target audience will look positively upon. A picture of the Director behind a desk in an office will be fine for a seniority respecting society, but for an egalitarian society it is better to show the Director mixing with staff.

It is through pictures that websites can either relate to an audience or repel them.

Symbols in Website Localization

As with pictures, symbols can cause problems in localization. Icons using fingers such as an OK sign or V-sign may mean different things to different cultures. Our Western symbols do not always mean the same abroad. An oft cited example is the representation of the house referring to a home page, or a letterbox to mail. The use of animals in logos can cause embarrassment and further problems. For example, pigs are considered unclean in the Middle East and cows as holy in India.

Colours in Website Localization

Colours are also loaded with cultural meanings that need to be analysed in website localization. Choosing the wrong colour for your logo or background will not always have disastrous consequences, but avoiding them is always advisable.
For example, in Japan white is commonly associated with mourning. In China red is auspicious. In Africa certain colours represent different tribes.

Navigation in Website Localization

It is even the most taken for granted aspects of website layout that must be analysed properly for a successful localization project. In the West we assume that how we present websites is how it naturally should be done. This is far from the truth.

A common problem experienced in localization is the effect on layout through translation. Foreign scripts can make your pages need more room or less room depending on the target language in the localization. Not all languages read from left to right. Arabic is from right to left and both Japanese and Chinese are from top to bottom.

Access to certain pages is also a factor that can be considered as relevant. Highly hierarchical cultures may view a site positively if it is ‘member only’ access, whereas an egalitarian culture may find it disagreeable.

Content in Website Localization

Examining your written content in any localization process in critical to its success. This is not only important for proper transfer of aspects such as dates, currencies, and units of measurement but for the presenting the correct image.

For example, will the site focus on a product or a company? Both bring with them certain considerations dependent on the target culture. If a company is marketing itself in a culture that respects seniority and hierarchy, readers will want to see information on senior members. Along with their titles and rank they will also want to evaluate them through information on their professional qualifications, experience and contacts. These areas in the UK may generally be avoided as in our culture it is bordering on self-indulgence and boasting.

Conclusion

Culture affects everything we do, say, read, hear and think and even websites cannot escape the influence of culture.

The impact of culture on website localization is huge. The above few examples are literally the tip of the iceberg. The number of variables that have to be taken into consideration requires the expertise of both a website designer along with a cross cultural communications consultant. In tandem they can identify the issues that will impact on the successful localization of a site.

At a time where the internet is entering more and more houses it is crucial that companies involved in the internationalization of their business consider website localization and take care to use effective cross cultural analysis.

Viral Marketing 101 - Not Using It Could Kill Your Business!

Creativity.

This is one virtue a site must possess to lead the race in the
ruthless competition in the Internet based business. With so
many competition and rivalry going on, every method of marketing
must be employed and utilized.

It doesn’t matter if you have a killer product or a
fantastically designed website, if people don’t know that you
exist, it doesn’t matter, and you are not going to make it big.
Worse of all, you business could just get killed.

While there are so many methods and schemes used by so many
e-commerce sites today, there are still some of those that can
help you with an extra boost in the popularity ratings. One of
these is the so called Viral Marketing.

While the term Viral easily depicts a virus, a word very much
dreaded by all computer owners, it is not what it seems. You do
not actually use a computer virus to spread your business; on
the contrary it just might kill you. Everyone has had enough of
all those pop up ads and spywares.

Viral Marketing Overview

Viral Marketing also known otherwise as Viral Advertising is a
marketing technique used to build the public awareness of one’s
product or company. They use many forms of media to reach out to
the public without actually promoting the product by riding on
in other forms of addictive means that could get a person hooked
and be obliged or amused to actually pass it on, with the
product or company advertisement along with it.

In a nutshell, companies ride on the idea that if people like
the content of a media they will pass it on to their friends and
family. They sponsor the certain media, such as a cool flash
game, funny video, amusing story and such, which one may pass on
to another with the company brand or logo or the products
description or any other content to help promote the company or
its product.

Viral marketing has become a popular means of advertising and
marketing because they are relatively low cost. To avoid being
tagged as spam mail, viral marketing counts on the eagerness of
one person to pas on the product. If a person sees the name of
the person they know as the sender, they won’t block it and open
it as well.

Many companies offer incentives such as discounts and rebates
when they help in spreading their viral marketing. They rely on
the number of recipients a viral marketing gets from one person
in determining the amount or number of incentive they can be
attributed with.

Using Viral Marketing to your advantage

The main and foremost advantage of viral marketing is that you
get a lot of publicity and public awareness about your site and
your company. You get to generate a flow of traffic that are
potential customers. With a little ingenuity and imagination,
plus some incentives or prizes, you can reach out to a great
number of people and announce your existence.

Most every site and companies are catching on to the effectivity
of Viral Marketing and Advertising. Not using it could kill your
business. Along with other schemes and methods in promoting your
site, like Search Engine Optimization and such, viral marketing
could easily push you ahead in the rating games.

Viral Marketing could be a sneaky way to get people to know
about you and your company. You get them to pass your
advertisement along. They are also very low cost that not
investing in it could be downright a business suicide. All it
takes is a great idea, a good addicting game, a funny story many
ideas are still out there. Create a gossip or a buzz, many
movies are promoted by using scandals and gossips to make them
moiré popular. Remember the movie “The Blair Witch Project”?

Many big companies have tried viral marketing and have had many
success stories with it. A classic example is Microsoft’s
Hotmail. They were the first known big company to utilize the
scheme and it has worked wonders for them.

Now it’s your turn to use viral marketing to work wonders for
you. Act now and reap the benefits Viral Marketing will provide
for you and your sales figures.

Shopping Online with a Great Wholesale Distributor Can Save You Tons of Money and Put Your Favorite

Shopping online is a great way to save money on just about everything you buy. A good deal of the time you can find things cheaper online than you can locally, even when you have to pay for shipping. Great prices are especially true when you shop with a wholesale distributor online. It can be difficult to find a wholesale distributor that carries everything you might be looking for, but there are some truly great web based companies out there that can put you in touch with all of your favorite products for less. Many wholesale distributors will deal with just one or two things, but there are some distributors online that can offer everything you are looking for, and more.

Marketing

If you’ve been looking for someone to put you in touch with great marketing techniques or services, you’ll find plenty of options on the Internet. Not only do you have a lot of options to choose from, if you find the right wholesale distributor you can get your marketing help or services for a lot less. Wholesale distributors are not just about buying items like clothing and other popular material items; they’re also about saving money on the services and information you need for your business endeavors. The right distributor will not only be able to hook you up with your favorite gadgets, but will also be able to get you in touch with other services and information that you need.

Web Tools

Web tools are often found through wholesale distributors. Whether you just imitate what they do as far as marketing and web page layout goes or you actually buy some software to help with your web page or web business, your wholesale distributor can be your source for getting the right tools for your business. Marketing and web tools often go hand in hand, so check out your favorite wholesale distributor and see if they can’t help you get the tools you need to run your business to the best of your ability.

Hosting Solutions, Surveys, and Ink

Hosting and surveys are also items that you may be able to find through your wholesale dealer. Many hosting companies work with wholesale distributors to provide their great hosting services at a discount rate. Of course, this only benefits those that are willing to find a wholesale distributor that can hook them up with hosting solutions. Surveys are a great business tool. Many wholesale distributors can hook you up with companies that will provide your survey questions so that you can get some much-needed feedback. Obviously, it isn’t your every day wholesale distributor that can provide such services, but some of them can. If you run your own business or you’re just tired of retail prices, you can also get your ink from wholesale distributors that can save you a lot of time and money.

Nutrition & Health

Nutrition and health products can also be purchased through your favorite wholesale distributor. If you find a distributor that has a lot of merchandise, you’ll find that they have all of the nutrition and health products such as vitamins that you can ever need. If your wholesaler deals with the most popular top ten positions in items and brands that are sought after, you’ll definitely be able to get your hands on your favorite nutrition and health products so that you can take care of your mind and body for much less.

Working with a great wholesale distributor just makes sense. Some of the better distributors offer more than 11,000 of the most popular items, so why not get them for less? Not only can you save, you can have them delivered right to your front door!
