Improve Your Image at Work

The image we have at the place we work or, in other words, what people we work with think about us, is always important for each and every one of us. It sometimes happens that you’re very close to a promotion and you’re wondering how to prove that you’re better than your hard-working colleague; or maybe you realized you would like to get along better with the persons you meet at work everyday. In any of these cases, as well as in others, an improvement of your image can only have positive results.

There are many ways in which you can modify or adapt your image to your true needs and here are some of them:

1. Tips regarding the relation with your colleagues.

- Getting along well with the people around you is sometimes a question of diplomacy. Take some time and analyze each and single one of them, established their needs and try to be helpful – even though they would be suspicious at the beginning, after a while you are sure to obtain the desired result. After all, who wouldn’t want to have a partner at work, offering to help him finish the project earlier? This way, you will not only make proof that you are a wonderful team worker, but you also make sure you have somebody to turn to, when you need to leave early and finish your at the same time.

- Pay attention to what your colleagues have to say. Although the meeting might be just as boring as usual, the fact that you express an opinion about what another person is presenting, will sure put your personality in a good light. Don’t hesitate to congratulate your workmates every time they accomplish something, no matter how insignificant it might be. This way, they will feel you approve and admire them and they will always come to you for advice. Also, don’t forget how interested we all are about our physical appearance! Thus, be smart enough not to miss any chance to compliment a colleague when he or she got a new hair cut, a new outfit or simply looks good that day. Remember how good, a compliment like that, makes you feel.

- Whenever it is not impossible or very difficult, try to do little things for your workmates. For example, when you go out to buy yourself coffee or lunch, ask the others if they need anything. Imagine how good it would made you feel if somebody offered you a cup of coffee, when you’re too caught with your work at the office.

2. Reorganize your office.

- Design the room you’re working in, so that it looks more like a welcoming space, rather than a traditional office. Mind things like the color of the walls, the type and color of furniture etc. Also, remember how nice it is to remark living things in other people’s offices. What about placing some nice plants or an aquarium in the room you spend eight hours daily? On one hand it will point out that you indeed like your job, since you invest time and energy to decorate your office, and it will make the others pay you more visits. However, do not exaggerate by adding a bed and shower in your office!

Depending on the environment we work in, it is sure that, sooner or later, we will have to upgrade our image, so whenever you feel is necessary, don’t hesitate to do it!

Massage That Bridges The Space Between Body And Spirit

For many individuals, massage has evolved from a periodic
indulgence to a key component of an overall health and fitness
regimen. The ability of massage to reduce stress and remedy
various physical ailments has convinced many to include a
massage therapist on their list of health providers.

But the art of massage takes many forms. Typically, a visit to a
spa or an independent massage therapist will include some form
of Swedish massage or deep tissue massage. These techniques are
designed to invigorate muscles by promoting increased blood flow
to specific areas and identifying and relieving particular
problems. The application of these types of massage involves
long, rhythmic strokes and kneading or circular actions with the
hands, palms or fingers. The result is improved circulation,
physical relaxation and a reduction in mental stress.

Shiatsu massage is also an extremely effective form of massage
but with a somewhat metaphysical rationale to support the
technique.

Shiatsu is a Japanese word that means “finger pressure.” The
goal of Shiatsu is to restore the balance of energy in the body.
Proponents of Shiatsu and acupuncture believe that disease and
physical infirmities are caused by imbalances or blockages in
the flow of energy through the body. This energy is called “ki”
which flows through the body along meridians or energy channels.
Practitioners strive for a balance between Yin (negative energy)
and Yang (positive energy) and attempt to determine where there
may be a build up of energy or an energy deficiency. Either will
cause problems.

Shiatsu does not use the rubbing and kneading technique of
Swedish massage but applies pressure using almost any part of
the therapist’s body including arms, legs, fingers, hands, feet,
elbows, toes, etc. The therapist locates a particular point
along one of the body’s meridians and applies pressure to that
area, attempting to restore balance to the flow of energy. The
pressure can be applied gently with the fingers or may be
applied forcefully with the point of the elbow depending on the
location of the point and the severity of the blockage. The
therapist may also incorporate stretching, holding or rotating
various parts of the body

The restoration of the proper balance of “ki” is viewed as a
spiritual as well as physical benefit. The balanced flow of
energy offers physical comfort and improved health as well as
emotional stability and spiritual well being. In fact, it is not
uncommon that a recipient of Shiatsu massage may experience an
intense emotional response as energy is released from problem
areas and restored to proper levels. Crying is not an unusual
occurrence and a good Shiatsu massage therapist is fully
prepared for, and completely sympathetic to, this type of
response.

Shiatsu massage is an extremely relaxing and healing form of
massage. It is satisfying to know that besides feeling better, a
Shiatsu experience can place us back in balance with the energy
flow of the universe.

The Rippling Effects of Chlorinated Water

The water that comes out of your kitchen faucet carries with it a steady stream of chemical by-products that are known to cause cancer, heart disease and reproductive harm. Since the turn of the century chlorine has been used to treat the nation’s drinking water, virtually eliminating disease causing bacteria and viruses. When first used in 1908, it was viewed as the perfect treatment, one that kept us free of waterborne illnesses while creating no ill effects on our health. So much more is known about chlorine these days, and the error of our ways is beginning to become apparent with the increase in heart disease and cancer related deaths.

The problem with chlorine is actually in the by-products, called organochlorines, created when it mixes with organic materials, such as leaves, algae or even human skin. There are thousands of different chlorine by-products, and very few of them have been studied for safety or are being tracked in our water reserves. While these by-products don’t cause immediate illness, such as typhoid or dysentery, they have long term effects that are not as easy to study or link to any one health ailment.

There are several classes of by-products, the most studied being trihalomethanes (THMs), which occur when chlorine combines with methane. A common THM found in water is chloroform, a known carcinogen. As a matter of fact, a large number of THMs are known or suspected carcinogens, but they are allowed to remain in our water at minimal levels, even though research has shown those “minimal” levels are capable of causing cancer.

Chlorine and its’ by-products enter the body through ingestion, inhalation and absorption of the skin. It is theorized that 2/3 of the body’s chlorine by-product intake occurs in the shower. When the water is heated up, the by-products become vaporized and are thereby easily inhaled. The hot water also serves to enlarge the skin’s pores and allows for easier absorption through the skin.

Chlorine by-products do not break down quickly and are generally stored within the fatty tissues of the body, where they can alter DNA, suppress immune function and interfere with natural cell growth. The by-products also destroy the intestinal flora (“good” bacteria) that protects the body from pathogens and generate free radicals that can cause cancer.

Evidence of this was displayed in a study conducted in Hartford, Connecticut finding that, “women with breast cancer have 50% to 60% higher levels of organochlorines in their breast tissue than women without breast cancer.”

Chlorine by-products have been attributed to causing several types of cancer including, cancer of the bladder, liver, rectum, and colon. A study at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland concluded that, “people living in areas served by chlorinated water have twice the risk of contracting cancer,” than those who do not.

Free radical damage caused by chlorinated by-products have been linked to heart disease and atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). In his book Mega Nutrition, Richard A. Kunin, M.D. explains, “…even in minute quantities sufficient to kill germs, chlorine can undermine the body’s defenses against atherosclerosis. Chlorine in drinking water creates electrically charged molecules called free radicals… that can damage the blood vessels and create the environment for plaque formation.”

A growing number of studies have also linked chlorine and chlorine by-products to reproductive harm. In 1998, the California Department of Health conducted a study that established a link between chlorinated drinking water and miscarriage. They found that pregnant women with high exposures to chlorinated drinking water nearly doubled their risk of miscarriage from a rate of 9.5% to 16%. Other studies have linked chlorinated drinking water to serious birth defects and low birth weight.

In spite of the overwhelming amount of evidence that chlorine is not as safe as once thought, the EPA continues to deny that there is a causative link between chlorinated water and health effects. Opponents of chlorine’s use in treating drinking water suspect that the EPA’s denial stems from the sheer cost that it would have to undertake to implement a safer treatment system.

In 2002, England began using Ozonation to treat the country’s drinking water. The process works by adding the same kind of ozone that is found in the atmosphere to the country’s drinking water supply. Once the ozone has been added, an electric charge is sent through the water, effectively killing all disease causing microbes. Ozonation is actually twice as effective as chlorine at eliminating bacteria and is chemical free, creating no harmful by-products.

While a few cities across the US have begun using Ozonation, most are still relying on chlorine to treat their drinking water. Individual ozone water treatment units can be purchased for your home and are relatively inexpensive. Reverse osmosis, micro filtration and distillation filters are not effective because they do not eliminate the harmful by-products of chlorine.

Combining the Mind and Effective Goal-Setting

Goals are of vital importance in our lives. Many of us spend our lives without any definite purpose, simply drifting from place to place. Setting goals help us to focus our lives and to advance confidently in a definite direction. Without them, I don’t think our lives can truly be complete.

If you are looking for proof of the importance of goals, you need not look any farther than two pivotal studies on success and goal-setting, one completed by Yale University and the other by Dr. Lewis Terman of Stanford University.

In the first study, Yale University kept track of their graduates during a 20 year period and found that the 3% who set goals were worth more financially than the entire 97% of the students who did not!

In the second study, Dr. Terman of Stanford conducted a study of 1,528 students all with IQ’s above the genius level. His study found that intelligence had nothing to do with success and financial acumen but that goal-setting did!

So now we know that goal-setting is vitally important to our success, but how do we do it? I first recommend that you take a day or two (longer if needed) to spend some time meditating about your passions in life. Start to make a list. Some wise men recommend that you try to write down 100 goals for your life. Lou Holtz, the tremendously successful football coach at Notre Dame and more recently at the University of South Carolina, said that while still in his teens he wrote down over 100 goals for his life (one of which was to coach a college football team to a National Championship - which he did). A few years ago at about the age of 60, Coach Holtz had achieved every single goal he had written down. So he had to write another 100 goals and I’m sure he’ll get those before long too!

I recommend that you try to write 100, write them out and break them out into long-term, mid-term, and short-term goals. You can write your own definition of the time periods involved, but I would recommend that short-term is up to 5 years from now, mid-term is 5 to 15 years from now, and long-term is 15+ years.

Now that you have goals, you need to start taking advantage of them! This is where most would-be goal-setters fail. Anyone can write a goal, but I’d wager that if you asked 10 goal-setters what their short-term goals were after a week of setting those goals, that 9 out of 10 would not be able to answer!

You need goals in your life in order to achieve your dreams and have the success you desire. But just as important is a system for keeping your goals constantly in your mind.
We’re back to using affirmations and mind-imagery!

After you’ve written out your 100 goals, take all of them and write them in the form of 100 affirmations. Example, if your goal is to earn enough money to take your wife on a second honeymoon to the Caribbean, then you could write: “I am enjoying the company of my wife in the Caribbean sun by January 1, 2009 with the money that I gladly save and invest for my benefit!”

Then, follow the advice of Rod Moore of Self Management Systems who said: “Each morning, the first thing you should do is spend 5 - 10 minutes and invest it in programming your mind to go get the goals you have set for yourself. By doing so, you are imprinting or programming your mind each day to focus on what you want. By doing this consistently your sub-conscious mind will begin to manifest your desires into your life.”

What I’ve found works best for me is to review my short-term goals daily, and then once a week review the mid-term and long-term goals making adjustments as necessary to the term of specific goals. I find that this keeps me focused on achieving the goals with the shorter term without forgetting about the goals on the horizon.

I want you to be tremendously successful and I believe that you will be with the techniques and exercises that we’ve discussed. Be a goal-setter, but don’t just set them and walk away. Set them and follow them and achieve the success you deserve! Until next time!

To Your Success,
Joel S. Nelson

DVD Slideshows Help Us Remember When…

A Picture Says a Thousand Words

Photographs invoke emotion and conjure up memories. One of my favorite quotes is by Sy Parish; “And if these pictures have anything important to say to future generations, it’s this: I was here. I existed. I was young, I was happy, and someone cared enough about me in this world to take my picture.”

Most of us have boxes, drawers, and albums filled with photographs we have taken over the years. Photographs symbolize a moment in time that has been forever frozen.

My Aunt was diagnoses with Alzheimer’s many years ago. As the years go by her memory of past events fades. Her daughters have made pocket sized photo albums with pictures and detailed descriptions; for example, “This is Sally. She is five years old; her mother is Jane, your youngest daughter.” My Aunt looks at these little books every day. Sometimes she remembers who Jane is; other days she has to ask.

While visiting my Aunt I noticed that she loves to watch television. It was then that I realized creating a DVD of her life with voice-overs describing each event might help her remember her past. When I returned home I contacted her daughters and asked them to email me photographs and descriptions of each photo asking them; “where it took place, when it took place and who is in the photo?” I then met with my Aunt’s sisters, asking them to go through their photographs and gather the one’s that might help my Aunt remember.

Once I had received all of the photographs I scanned them and placed them in a slideshow program. Each frame of the DVD describes the time, event and people in the photograph. It is important to include background music that is specific to the their era, in my Aunt’s case it was; Glen Miller, Nat King Cole, and Frank Sinatra.

My mother and her sisters have been wonderful in writing down memories of their childhood. Silly events that happened when they were young girls, events that we hope will spark memories in my Aunt. Using a voice-over, the “memory” is told then the photograph appears for 30-40 seconds, giving ample time for individual to reminisce about the photograph and event.

Alzheimer DVD’s are a family affair. It is important to receive input from as many people as possible that are close to the person with Alzheimer’s.

If someone is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s it is wonderful to interview them, asking them their favorite childhood memories, school memories, their marriage, children and grandchildren. What are their hobbies? Where did they like to vacation? What are they most passionate about? What are their favorite songs?

There are so many good times in life; sharing them on a DVD is a way to preserve the memories.

Evaluating the Need for Separate ADHD Schools and Knowing Your Child’s Legal Rights

by Tess Thompson

When a child has ADD ADHD, it is not uncommon for the first
person to recognize the symptoms to be the child’s teacher. Many
of the symptoms of ADHD can seem more pronounced in a structured
classroom setting, when a child is forced to sit still and focus
on something specific. Of course, a teacher’s suspicion is not
grounds for assumption that your child has the condition. A
diagnosis of ADHD should come only after valid ADHD assessment
tests and extensive professional evaluation that includes such
factors as his or her behavior at school, at home and at play,
and that eliminates the possibility that your child is suffering
from other conditions, such as depression or anxiety, that can
produce similar symptoms.

If you do determine that your child has ADHD and needs special
child ADHD treatment, you should be aware of the legal rights
your child has to an education that accomodates his or her
needs. ADHD children can have difficulty performing well in
school and teachers can become frustrated with students who have
behavioral problems or who require constant attention. Although
you can weigh the benefits of private tutors, homeschooling or
“ADHD schools” — special schools for children with learning
disabilities (ADHD is not technically a learning disability, but
some schools have programs that include instruction for ADHD
children), there are laws which mandate that your child receive
specialized education within the confines of the public school
system as well.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a
federal statute that requires schools to identify children who
have ADHD or other learning disorders and to provide special
education or provide other services to qualifying students. In
order to qualify under IDEA, a child’s ADHD must be found to be
severe enough to impair the child’s education. Children who
suffer from ADHD may also qualify under IDEA if they have
simultaneously been diagnosed with a learning disablity or with
emotional problems.

Chidren who don’t qualify for specialized education under IDEA
can still find help under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
of 1973, which is an anti-discrimination provision designed to
protect people with disabilities. It prohibits programs that are
federally funded, such as public schools, from discriminating
against people with disabilities, and requires schools to
accomodate them. Accomodations can include things such as
altering test-taking rules or providing help with note-taking.

The Americans with Disabilities Act also prohibits
discrimination on the basis of disability, but includes
organizations which recieve no federal funding. Under this
provision, children with ADHD qualify for special help at public
and at private schools.

Although these statutes must be legally upheld by schools, some
school systems do not accurately train teachers and
administrators to recognize the symptoms of ADHD, and they are
often unaware of their legal obligations to accomodate children
who suffer from it. Your child does have a legal right to these
provisions, and you have the right to request them. In rare
cases, when a school has been found to lack in sufficient
accomodation, the state has paid for children to attend
specialized private schools. Many public schools, however, have
excellent systems in place, and more and more frequently,
teachers are being trained to teach all kinds of students,
including those with ADHD.

Incorporating Physical Activity into Your Daily Routine

You already know that getting at least 30 minutes of exercise each and every day is good for you, but putting that assertion into actual practice is an entirely different matter, right? Contrary to what you might think, making physical activity an everyday habit isn’t rocket science. There’s no secret code for success waiting to be cracked. In fact, it’s something that can be worked into your usual routine with minimal, sometimes no, interruption or adjustment.

The U.S. Surgeon General, the American Heart Association and many other reputable health organizations all agree that 30 minutes of moderate-intensity workout is optimal on most, if not all, days of the week. The good news is that they also all concur that this recommended prescription doesn’t have to be taken all in one large dose. While the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) once called for continuous exercise of 20 minutes’ duration or longer, new guidelines allow for bouts of physical activity (as few as 10 minutes at a time) intermittently spread throughout the day.

When viewed in this manner, 10 minutes of exercise three times a day becomes a much more manageable goal than 30 uninterrupted minutes. Even the busiest executive and the most stressed-out mom can carve out 360 seconds for the sake of improving his or her physical, mental and emotional well-being. In fact, regular physical activity can even be considered a lifesaving practice. That’s because it’s been proven to extend life by warding off many chronic and deadly conditions like heart attacks, diabetes and strokes.

Now that the logistics are out of the way, the question becomes: What constitutes ‘moderate-intensity’ activity? In concrete terms, the 30-minute recommendation breaks down to two to three miles of walking a day at a rate of 3-4 miles per hour, or to burning 200 calories per day. This aim coincides with the popular 10,000 Steps program, which can easily be reached with the assistance of a RYP Sports pedometer. Simple things like parking your car farther away from your office or taking the stairs instead of the elevator can quickly add up to that target number.

For those who don’t enjoy walking or running, there are many other activities that constitute moderate-intensity exertion, many of which are necessary and/or fun tasks that fit right in with your normal routine. Gardening, raking leaves, mowing the lawn, mall strolling and dancing all fill the bill. In fact, 30 minutes spent playing tag with your kids in the yard burns the equivalent amount of calories as yoga, horseback riding and walking at a pace of four miles per hour on a level surface.

So, before you use the excuse that you’re too busy to schedule exercise into your daily grind, reconsider. Play Frisbee with the kids, take the dog for a jog around the block, even get some much-needed cleaning done around the house. In no time flat you’ll have reached your intended exercise goal, often without even realizing it!

2. Keep your mind active, crosswords, sudoka, hobbies, etc. NEVER STOP LEARNING. If you have an interested mind, people are more likely to enjoy your company and be interested in you.

3. Keep your body active. As the saying goes, if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it
Walk in the fresh air if possible. If you enjoy company while you are walking then join a rambling group. (Often ‘rambling clubs’ for the retired are more socially inclined ‘ambling clubs’). Gardening combines the benefits of fresh air, exercise and the results can give you immeasurable pleasure. Dancing; particularly formation or line dancing exercises the memory also. Swimming, is a particularly good exercise for all parts of the body with the added advantage that the water is supporting you and therefore there is no weight on the joints.

4. Feed your body with the correct foods. You wouldn’t expect your car to work efficiently if you fed it the incorrect fuel. So feed your body with nutritious foods that contain the necessary vitamins and minerals in order for it to return optimum performance. With winter approaching we need to build up our immune system, so in addition to a well balanced diet of fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and nourishing protein (laced with the benefits of virgin olive oil and garlic), we should add a few supplements to help us on our way. In addition to a good multi-vitamin tablet, you’ll probably benefit from extra Vitamin C, Echinacea, EPA fish oils, selenium, ginko biloba to aid circulation, particularly to the extremities, and glucosomine to help with those aching joints.

Don’t forget your flu jab and the jab against pneumonia for the over 70’s.
There is also really excellent news on the common cold front. At long last there appears to be something that stops a cold developing. Vicks First Defence is a spray that you use at the first sign of a cold and it stops the cold virus in its tracks. This miracle goes on sale during October 05.

5 Socialise. Possibly I don’t have to remind you about this as the majority of retired folk I meet complain that they are busier now than ever they were, that there are not enough hours in the day, and they wonder how they ever found time to go to work.
There are so many clubs and groups to join. To name a few popular ones, U3A (University of the Third Age) for both sexes and with interesting speakers, and offering numerous sub sections for specific group interests and hobbies, Women’s Institute, (has gained a new image after the film Calendar Girls), Townswomen’s Guild, Gardening Clubs, Art Clubs, etc., and many clubs aimed specifically at the retired.

If transport is a problem, remember most local authorities offer free or reduced bus fares for senior citizens and travel tokens for the disabled. There is a Senior Railcard for reduced train fares for the over 60’s. National Express have a Routesixty Scheme which enables over 60’s to travel nationwide very cheaply (Tel 08705 808080). Also, occasionally, National Express offer their ‘go anywhere for £5 scheme’.

If you have difficulty in getting around the town, then there is Shopmobility where you can hire mobility scooters (various models and sizes available) and electric and manual wheelchairs. Shopmobility is usually manned by helpers who will be only too pleased to instruct and allow you to practice before you are let loose on the town. Also there is the added advantage that there is usually a free car park attached to Shopmobility for clients’ convenience. If you have difficulty in using public transport, often local authorities provide a ‘dial-a-ride’ service from your home to the shopping centre.

Well, whatever you do – E N J O Y I T! We were always told that laughter is the best medicine and now we know it to be true – it raises the serotonin levels in the brain and gives you that ‘feel good’ factor.

The Focal Infection Theory, While Rarely Talked About Now

The gum crevices surrounding every tooth, and particularly between teeth, are loaded with bacteria, plus food debris and calculus deposits which also contain bacteria. Some bleeding during scaling and curetting procedures can easily introduce these bacteria and toxines into the bloodstream and result in bacteremia that can seriously damage the heart.

This means that even during tooth brushing, flossing, toothpick use, or chewing hard crusty items of food, it is easy to start minor bleeding which can allow mouth bacteria to be introduced into the blood stream. Scientific tests have established that bleeding of the gums can cause a high incidence of bacteremia; that is, bacteria in the blood.

The fight against the focal infection theory was mainly carried out by Doctors Percy Howe and John buckley.

Howe based his opposition on a study he conducted injecting rabbits with normal placid streptococcus bacteria secured from the mouth, not bacteria from an infection site or a root filled tooth.

In his investigation, none of the animals became sick or died. Buckley was unable to see how infected teeth which showed excellent evidence of bone repair after root canal therapy could possibly still be infected. Then too, because some who had root filled teeth removed did not recover, he questioned the validity of the conclusion that a percentage of patients did get well due to the removal of a tooth or teeth.

The arguments of these two men were weak and they failed to consider or believe. That poor nutrition and inherited genetic problems are also causes of degenerative diseases.

That oral bacteria do not act in the same manner as do the germs that cause measles, smallpox, mumps, scarlet fever, etc.

That when teeth become infected, oral bacteria find the dentin tubules an ideal cave-like hiding place, and these germs and their toxins- like the viruses that cause cancer - metastasize and escape to infect hearts, joints, kidneys, lungs, the stomach, eyes, and countless other tissues.

That what makes these bacteria so dangerious is their ability to become polymorphic; that is, to mutate, adapt, change, become smaller, anaerobic, more virulent and more toxic.

That pregnant women or others experiencing a higher than normal degree of stress become particularly susceptible to diseases arising from oral infection sources.

By the mid-thirties, most physicians and dentists believed the focal infection theory to be correct and valid.

With the advent of penicillin, there arose the belief that antibiotics could cure all these probelms, and little is heard today about focal infections.

However, the fact is that antibiotics can’t get inside the dentin tubules once a tooth loses its blood supply due to root canal treatment. If antibiotics can’t get inside tubules, they can’t get inside the dentin tubules once a tooth losses its blood supply due to root canal treatment.

If antibiotics can’t get inside tubules, they can’t kill the bacteria therein.

Arginine Arginine, L-Arginine

Arginine is an
amino acid present in the proteins of all life forms. Under
normal circumstances your body can synthesize sufficient
quantities from your diet to meet your needs, but in times of
stress conditions, such as trauma and wound healing, you may not
be able to manufacture enough. L-Arginine primary
function involves the metabolism of protein and nitrogen. But
the scientific community recently became excited about
arginine’s newfound role as a promoter of cardiovascular health.
L-Arginine is the
primary precursor to nitric oxide, a small molecule that is
responsible for relaxing blood vessels. If you are among the
many people concerned about your circulatory health, then L-Arginine should
be a part of your wellness program.

Cardiovascular Support L-Arginine is a
nitric oxide precursor. Nitric oxide is formed from arginine via
the enzyme nitric oxide synthase or synthasetase (NOS). One of
its functions is to regulate smooth muscle contraction. Nitric
oxide’s effect on blood vessels is the reason nitroglycerine is
prescribed for patients with pain that results from inadequate
blood flow to the heart. The nitroglycerine is converted to
nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels and in turn reduces
the workload of the heart.

Protein Metabolism L-Arginine is a
key nutrient in the energy generating Krebs cycle, where it
participates in the detoxification of ammonia. Ammonia is a
toxic by product of energy metabolism. It is converted to urea
and eliminated from the body. Any L-Arginine not
converted to urea enters general circulation, where it is
distributed to various tissues and metabolized for other uses
such as protein synthesis.
