When Good Color Goes Bad…

Even with the popularity of digital technology, and the availability of equipment and software associated with it, many printing firms are still slow to make the changes needed to upgrade their business. More so when it comes to digital photography.

More often than not, most typical printing outfits are no set up to process digital files that bad results do happen. Mistakes are often made such as conversions of files to CMYK doing irreparable damage to the images, and the operator trying to rectify his mistakes by fixing it with a series of layers, selections, masks and adjustments. These further aggravates the already damaged file by introducing new problems like banding, and colors that look muddy, desaturated, neutralized, and unappealing.

But this situation can be avoided and great results can be achieved. If you feel that you are not getting the best output for your digital camera images, here are a few key tips for you:

Tip 1: PROFILES

It’s a must to ask your chosen printer whether they honor embedded RGB profiles. This would mean that they have the capacity to handle RGB color separation work. If they don’t want to get your RGB file, or they seem like they don’t care or understand what you’re saying, then it’s time for you to go to another printer.

Tip 2: CALIBRATED

Remember to use shops and facilities that regularly calibrate their displays. This can be done with a hardware calibration system.

Tip 3: INK JET PRINTS

To avoid second-guessing where the mistakes rest, it is better to just provide your printer with prints, especially to alert operators to potential problems.

Tip 4: SHARPNESS

Although well-sharpened images look a bit intimidating when viewed in Photoshop, especially at 1:1, your image will print well. Great sharpness is required when you’re dealing with coarser screens and uncoated stocks.

Tip 5: FOR POSITION ONLY

Layouts showing FPO images cropped and scaled will help printers provide optimum and sharpened result to your image.

Tip 6: COLOR CHECKER

With each new set up for color reference, one printer suggests that you ask your photographer to do a shot of his Gretag MacBeth “Color Checker” target.

Tip 7: RAW FILES

Ask your photographer if he or she can provide you with digital camera raw files. These raw files will provide you with the greatest latitude and quality in the hands of skilled operators.

The best way to go about this problem is to simply deal with printing companies whose prepress staffs understand the basics of color management. People who know and are experts on the advantages of digital raw camera files, and explain them to you when asked.

If not, then it’s better for you to change now.

Protecting Your Computer From Power Surges, Data Loss, Viruses, And Spyware

Protecting Against A Power Surge:

Your computer is an expensive investment; you should protect it from a power surge. If a sudden rush of electricity hits, a surge protector will blow the fuse or trip the breaker, this is what saves your computer. You should be sure to use a surge protector with a phone jack to keep the phone line from being a way for the electricity to travel to your computer. You should know that a surge protector cannot safeguard you form a direct lightning strike. If you completely unplug your computer and modem during a thunderstorm, this is the only sure way to protect your computer against lightning strikes.

How Do You Protect Your Computer From Loss Of Data?

If your hard disk crashes it can’t take all of your important saved information and software with it if you have backed it up. To protect your computer data everything should be ‘backed up’ by saving it to a floppy disk or compact disc, this is your best safeguard against data loss. So, periodically you should make copies of the information on your hard disk.

Protecting Your Computer From Viruses and Spyware

You must also protect your computer, data, privacy, and information from viruses and spyware; every time you install a new program, copy files, and download from the Internet you are susceptible. These days it is a must to have a good, reliable virus protection program. Be sure to get one that will review each new file and check it for viruses. Also, you should be able to get regular updates via the Internet because there are always new viruses that you will need protection from on an ongoing basis.

A New Generation of Compatible Toner Cartridges and Savings

As an exclusive user of Compatible Toner Cartridges for twenty years, there have been a lot of changes in the toner cartridge market. Today, the estimated market for toner cartridges is about twenty billion dollars a year. There is no question that you can save on your toner cartridges. However, before you jump in and purchase a toner cartridge, you would be wise to do a little homework. An informed choice can save you a lot of headaches.

When companies first began selling compatible toner cartridges, these cartridges were primarily recycled toner cartridges. They were referred to as “drill and fill” toner cartridges. What these companies did was take an old discarded toner cartridge and drill a hole in it. Then, they simply poured in new toner, plugged up the hole and offered the consumer this great deal on a compatible cartridge.

Many times these drill and fill toner cartridges produced poor quality print and fewer printed pages. The other problem with these type toner cartridges was the inconsistency between cartridges. One toner cartridge printed much better than another toner cartridge, even though both cartridges were processed identically.

Today, the technology has vastly changed and improved. There are many reputable printer companies producing compatible toner cartridges. The technology they use is as good as the technology used by major printer manufacturers. These reputable toner companies use all new parts. Many of the components they use are identical to those specified by the original equipment manufacturer. For example, they use the same types of toner, drums, rollers, etc.

Know What Toner Cartridge You Are Buying

The problem today is that a compatible toner cartridge sometimes has a dual meaning. When some companies use the term compatible toner cartridge, they are really talking about “remanufactured” toner cartridges. Other company’s use the term compatible toner cartridge to refer to a “new” toner cartridge manufactured by a third party toner company. Both types of cartridges could be a good buy.

Learn About the Toner Company

All toner companies are not the same. Both the remanufactured and the new compatible toner cartridges offer the consumer significant cost savings.

A reputable toner company will use a quality control testing process for remanufactured toner cartridges. This means they do more than simply empty the old toner and replace the cartridge with new toner. They will check the toner cartridges for quality of printing. They double-check the toner parts for wear and tear. When a problem is spotted, the cartridge part in question is replaced.

A reputable toner company that produces new compatible toner cartridges will also have a quality control program in place. What matters most is the long-term quality and quantity of print. The consumer dictates this. The toner cartridge user must be satisfied with both the first page printed as well as the last.

Even though you do a massive amount of research, you may never truly know all you’d like to about a toner company. However, you can learn exactly what type of compatible toner cartridge you are purchasing.

You should know at least ten things about a company before your purchase a toner cartridge online. Visit our website and review our special section “Purchasing Compatible Toner Cartridges Online”.

One important key to identifying a quality toner company is to study their toner warranty and money back guarantee. A quality company will stand behind their toner cartridges. If a company does not offer a one-year warranty and money back guarantee, keep looking.

Today you can get a quality compatible toner cartridge at significant savings. Do your homework. Visit several online sites. Look up your exact toner cartridge. Find out the exact type of toner cartridge they sell. Study their warranty. If possible, talk with someone that has purchased toner cartridges from the company. When you make an informed decision, you’ll find that a compatible toner cartridge can significantly reduce your printing cost without sacrificing quality or quantity.

Getting Wallpapers And Logos For Your Mobile Phones

The concept of mobile phone wallpaper is the same as that of a PC.
They are backgrounds, usually graphical, that appear on the phone when the handset is switched on. On some phones, wallpapers can double as screensavers that appear after some inactivity on the phone.
Wallpapers are fun to implement as it is one of the features of a mobile phone that you can customize to suit your preference. Many people use pictures taken with the phone’s own camera, downloaded images or graphics sent via SMS to them.

Wallpapers were created as an extra incentive for buyers to patronize phones in the face of competition in the industry. It is one of the areas of converging technology where computer application are gradually being merged into mobile phone applications. Phone manufacturers added wallpapers to their phone features to serve as incentive for buyers who would like to see their phones featuring their favorite PC wallpapers. These innovations have the aim of producing innovative features to their buyers so that the mobile phone use becomes more fun and interactive.

No matter the brand of your phone, be it Nokia, Motorola, Siemens Panasonic, Alcatel, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Philips, Sagem, Sharp or Toshiba ther are many kinds of wallpapers to suit any kind of handset.

Your phone may come with a preset wallpaper or non at all. Setting up or changing the wallpaper is no hassle at all and the menu interface is there to guide you through the process. If your phone does not have interesting wallpapers, you can download some from the web if your phone supports it. It is however of importance to note that wallpapers would normally work with color screens.

Like ringtone, you can download wallpapers from the web using either a cable transfer, WAP server or SMS service.

If you are zealous about wallpapers you may have to consider screen resolution and sizes. Before downloading the wallpaper ensure that your screen resolution can support the wallpaper graphics. High resolution graphics especially pictures can occupy a large amount of space and therefore requires increase in memory if you would want to obtain them. Aside that, the screen size may not be compatible with the graphic you are downloading.

Now let’s search the web for some free wallpapers.

http://www.freemobilefun.net features colorful wallpapers which several phone sets can support. Each page displays about 15 pictures and together there are about 15 genres to select from.

Wallpapers add vitality to mobile phones especially with handsets that can use them as screen savers. Remember they can be customized from your stored digital pictures if you want to be constantly reminded of a favorite scene anytime you make a call.

Laptop Use To Solve Over-population

The Chinese Government is rumored to distribute laptops to all its citizens in an attempt to nip over-population in the bud (or rather, seed). Ok, perhaps socialism hasn’t come along this far, but recent studies do indicate that laptop use may hurt sperm production in young adult males permanently.

What You Say?

It’s true, “teenage boys and young men may consider limiting their use of laptop computers on their laps,” quipped Yefim Sheynkin, the lead researcher of an interesting (though somewhat sparse, yuk yuk) study on the effects laptops have on scrotal temperatures and sperm counts. When a laptop is balanced on one’s knees, the user is forced to close their legs together, raising scrotal temperatures by an average of 2.1 degrees celsius (3.8 F). Internal laptop temperatures can soar to 70 degrees celsius (158 F). The result is higher scrotal temperatures in males by around 2.7 degrees celsius (4.86 F),
according to Sheynkin’s study on 29 brave male volunteers.

Someone Set Up Us the Bomb

Are you thinking what I’m thinking, that the US government (the same monster that somehow puts poisons in plane jetstreams to kill off the elderly) was behind the advent of the laptop computer in order to control population? If so, your medication might be just a placebo. Whatever the case, studies show that 1 degree celsius is the minimal difference for inhibited spermatogenisis (sperm production). Although damage is temporary in most cases, habitual and prolonged laptop use
might cause permanent damage. Sheynkin said: “The body needs to maintain a proper testicular
temperature for normal sperm production and development. We don’t know the exact frequency and
time of heat exposure capable of producing reversible or irreversible changes in spermatogenesis.”

You Have No Chance to Survive, Make Your Time

Ok, so as inconclusive as this study seems, it is an established truth that heat is bad for the
little guys. Not only this, but laptops are just plain uncomfortable. There is a solution out
there. I have come accross the Xpad Heatshield, a handy new item that shields your lap from
uncomfortable laptop heat and channels heat away quickly. Perhaps the most energy consuming device
in a laptop is the cooling fan. I have found that when I use my Xpad with my powerbook, the
battery life increases, probably by about 20% or so. Plus, I have heard that putting your laptop
on a soft surface (like a pillow) inhibits heat dissipation, damaging your laptop’s battery
permanently. Xpad protects our batteries, our posterity, and passively protests the government’s
evil conspiracies.

The Xpad is simple in design. It is a solid base with raised rubber pads (in the shape of an “X) that raise the laptop by a little less than an inch. It allows heat to escape quite easily while gripping your laptop firmly to the base. A pad on the bottom makes it comfortable for your lap.

When it comes to computer speaker systems, you have a lot of choice. However, there are simply some brands that stand way out in terms of sound quality and dependability, and one of those brands is certainly Logitech. Logitech computer speakers are some of the best on the market, and provide a great deal of clean, powerful sound for a very reasonable price. Logitech offers a variety of computer speaker systems, for relatively inexpensive 2.1 2-speaker systems to the power 5.1 and 6.1 gaming computer systems with multiple surround-sound speakers. Whatever you are looking for in computer speakers, it is likely that Logitech has it.

The high-tech subwoofer adjusts itself dynamically to deliver distortion-free bass, while the five wall-mountable satellite speakers use Logitech’s patented FDD2 technology to eliminate the uneven sound response created by conventional dual-driver designs. The result: a clear, uniform sound field without the “hot spots” and inconsistency of other dual-driver satellites.

Features:

-70 watts total system power (7.4 watts x 4, plus 15.5-watt center speaker and 25-watt subwoofer)

Price: $60

Value Rating: 9.0 / 10 - A great step up from the X-230. It has the same great sound, with extra bass and a little more all-around power. The extra speakers are great for a surround sound setting. Only downside is that some games are not compatible with the this 5.1 system. Worth the extra $10 for most people.

Logitech X620 6.1 Computer Speakers

Manufacturers Description: More speakers means more sound, more detail, and more intensity. That’s what the Logitech X-620 6.1-channel speaker system is all about. Thanks to its 6 satellites, including a dedicated rear center speaker, you can hook it up to your PC or video game console and enjoy your games, music, and movies with sound that truly surrounds you.

Its patented, powerful pressure-driver subwoofer provides twice the bass of conventional designs for smooth, powerful lows, and the satellite speakers provide rich midrange and crisp high-end tones. Even if you don’t have a 6.1 sound card, you can still enjoy the benefits of all seven speakers by using the source selector switch.

Got a Sony PlayStation2, Microsoft Xbox, or Nintendo GameCube? Just plug in the X-620 using the convenient video game console adapter and immerse yourself in the explosions, music, and dialogue of your favorite games.

Comes with 6 satellite speakers and a powered 8-inch subwoofer; 70 watts total system power (140 watts peak).

The satellite speakers’ rotating pedestals allow for easy installation on the wall or desktop.

Features:

-280 watts system power (35.25 watts x 4, plus 39-watt center and 100-watt subwoofer)

-PlayStation2, Xbox, and GameCube owners can plug in the Z-5300e using a console adapter

-Use Matrix mode and source selector switch to create breathtaking 5.1 surround sound from stereo, 4-channel, or 5.1 sound sources

Price: $150

Value Rating: 8.0 / 10 - This system is almost too much for your average computer user - but it’s great for gamers who demand perfection in their sound system. Even though it will work with game consoles, remember that it is a computer speaker system, and works best with a pc.

Communicate Efficiently With A Motorola Cell Phone

Where do you find a cell phone that will help me communicate more effectively? From everything I have read or looked at, it appears that there are many good cell phones available from many companies. One of the best companies is Motorola cell phone. There are a number of different Motorola cell phones available that can help you to communicate more efficiently. Depending on what type of communication you require, a Motorola cell phone may be just the thing for you.

Before choosing the phone that will most aid your communications needs, you must first determine what those needs are. Do you need a Motorola cell phone for business communication? Or were you looking for something to use on a more personal level? That is a decision you should try to make before you determine which Motorola cell phone is going to work best for you.

Another questions you should ask yourself going into a Motorola cell phone purchase is: what features do I need for the phone to best solve my communication needs? Decide whether or not you need text messaging, internet access, or even something as simple as call waiting. Obviously, a lot of that will be determined by how busy you or your business is and how much time, then, you are spending on the phone. Text messaging can be a good feature on your Motorola cell phone if you tend to need to communicate in meetings or other locations where talking out loud on your phone may not be practical. As for internet access, how important is your email? Is it something you need access to constantly? If it is important and you find yourself needing to check it often, you should consider internet access on your Motorola cell phone.

Thirdly, as with anything, you have to decide how much you want to spend on your Motorola cell phone. The range in prices is as wide as the range in features and functions. Bare in mind that you often get what you pay for, so the more features you want on your Motorola phone, the more money you are likely to pay.

Deciding which Motorola cell phone will best meet your communication needs is not necessarily an easy prospect. However, like with anything, you can find the right piece to meet your needs by doing a little homework and planning. Figure out exactly what you need a Motorola phone for, what features will help you out the most, and figure out how much you want to spend on the phone you decide on. Once you have made these decisions and determinations, you will be able to get the right Motorola cell phone to meet your communication needs.

Computer Monitor Buying Guide

Although a monitor makes some of the least difference in terms of your computer’s speed, it can make some of the biggest differences in terms of comfort and productivity. This guide aims to give you the details you need to know to choose the best monitor for what you need it for.

LCD flap panel monitors have become all the rage, in a matter of just a few years, the old CRT monitors have nearly become obsolete, expecially on new computers. The old monitors are not bad. There is much to be liked, especially in terms of value for money, and in terms of performance. But you can’t fight the change. We will focus on the LCD flat panel monitors as there is often more to be considered.

Firstly there is the connection to the computer. Older monitors utilised a VGA cable that carried the signal from the computer to the monitor. The signal that goes along there is an analogue signal and it can become slightly degraded, and is just an old technology. Many flat panel monitors support this old style, but that is usually just for backwards compatibility. The newer cable type is a digital kind which is designed to be used for LCD monitors. The performance from this newer kind is better, but if you are upgrading an old computer, make sure your computer can run that monitor.

Secondly is the screen resolution. This is how many pixels can be displayed on the monitor. The higher the resolution, the more can be fit on the screen. This means clearer images with much smoother textures, but it also means that things appear smaller as an increase in resolution does not increase the physical dimensions of the monitor. Usual nowadays is 1024 x 768 or even 1280 x 960. Computers used to have 800 x 600, but that has all but disappeared, except on very old computers or those that are not maintained properly. I run 1280 x 960 as it gives room for a lot of working space on the monitor, but with less than a 19 inch monitor, 1024 x 768 would be more suitable.

Screen refresh rate is another factor that comes into play. CRT monitors used a process of changing the pixels on the screen to show the new images, updating from top to bottom in lines, at a certain rate per second. With that old style 60MHz (60 refreshes per second) would be the minimum before the screen started to flicker. LCD monitors do not have this problem and will look fine at 60MHz.When running games a refresh rate higher than that is required, often up to 85MHz or more. Make sure the monitor you plan to use supports at least 60MHz at your desired resolution for normal use and 85MHz if you want to play games.

A specification that is new for flat panel monitors that didn’t effect CRT monitors is latency. Although the refresh rate may be high, the table of little dots that make up the LCD panel take a small time to change, that change is the latency. Obviously if this latency is too high it is possible that you get shot in games before you even know it, which is no good. Latencies have improved, but only monitors claimed with 8ms latency have been really good for games. Latencies tend to be exagerated and a latency of 8ms actually averages out to 12ms. With most ratings multiply by 1.5 to get an average rating.

The actual brightness of the screen can vary from spot to spot on the screen. Certain monitors have obvious bright parts and dull parts while others are more consistent. Most have some variation, but the less, the better. Name branded monitors tend to give better results than cheaper no name brand versions.

Extras like little speakers are not worth talking about much. They have limited use and I would rather have seperate speakers and keep the monitor simple.

After considering these, you should have enough to make a good purchase decision. Remember that a little extra money spent on a monitor is a good investment, and unlike many other computer parts, upgrades are not needed that often.

Top 5 Performance Video Cards

This is a short list of the meanest, fastest and most powerful 3D video cards on the market today. If you own one of them, well - lucky you!

XFX GeForce 7800 GTX

The XFX GeForce 7800 GTX video card comes with a PCI Express interface, 256MB DDR3 video memory and supports a maximum resolution of 2048 X 1536. Though its price is a bit steep, its one of the fastest video cards on the market right now.

Powercolor Radeon X800 GT

A leading manufacturer of video cards, Powercolor has come up with the Powercolor Radeon X800 GT card. It is PCI Express based, runs on 256MB of DDR3 memory and a maximum resolution of 2048 X 1536. Cheaper than many of the cards in this list, but still gives extremely good 3D performance. Great value for money.

BFG GeForce 7800 GTX

Another PCI Express graphics card, the BFG GeForce 7800 GTX runs on 256MB of DDR3 video memory and a maximum resolution of 2048 X 1536. BFG produces quality video cards and the GeForce 7800 GTX is no exception. Its price may scare off the casual user though.

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro is still one of the hottest selling high-end video cards in the market. The Radeon 9800 Pro graphics processor scores very high on most benchmark tests. With an AGP 8X interface, 128 MB of DDR video memory and a maximum screen resolution of 2048 x 1536, this card is highly recommended.

Connect 3D Radeon X850 XT Platinum

Built on the Radeon X850 XT graphics processor, the Connect 3D Radeon X850 XT Platinum is a PCI Express card that runs on 256MB of DDR3 memory and a maximum resolution of 2048 X 1536. Highly recommended for spectacular 3D performance, and gives the GeForce video cards a run for their money.

Conclusion

Buying a good performance video card will reap many benefits - you’ll be able to play the latest 3D games in full screen glory, as well as edit video and graphics with ease.

However, please take note that having a good video card does not necessarily translate to great video performance. Factors like your CPU, motherboard and system RAM will come into play. For example, having a BFG GeForce 7800 GTX installed in a old AMD Duron or Intel Pentium Celeron system will definitely not give you the desired video performance you seek.

Now go do some research and buy that dream video card!

Getting The Best Mobile Phone Deal Available

The mobile phone marketplace has rapidly evolved into one of the most competitive consumer marketplaces out there. At no time is this more evident than around the time when your existing mobile phone contract is set to expire. It is interesting, if a little infuriating to receive an avalanche of calls from networks and resellers all offering you different deals at different costs and varying packages. For those of us who are not particularly interested it can be easy just to let your existing contract roll on for another year and accept the first terms that come your way. That way you can avoid the boredom of sitting through some poor workers sales pitch every night.

But taking the easy route and allowing the network to roll over the contract without reviewing the terms available on other contracts and providers is tantamount to shooting yourself in the foot – or the wallet at least. Although I am not particularly interested in fervently searching high and low for the best deal I also have no interest in paying too much for a service. So, as with any major purchase, a bit or research – or at least knowing where to look can help to either save you a bit of cash or get a little more for your monthly contract costs.

The networks are working hard to differentiate themselves but their position of market dominance that was taken for granted only a few years ago is being eroded and the consumer options are wider than ever. Competition of tariffs between the networks is supplemented by the work of the resellers – both high street and online who buy in bulk from the networks at discount and pass some of the discount on the customer, often undercutting the original network deals. High street mobile phone dealers increase user choice simply by stocking offers from various networks to allow the customer to compare the best mobile phone deals.

The online marketplace has expanded rapidly over the last few years and these retailers claim to offer the very best mobile phone deals due to their ability to undercut the High street simply by having lower overheads. Again the deals are the same as the networks and include the latest handset models, accessories and extras but at a cheaper price than dealing directly with the network. Because the resellers deal with all of the major networks, you can compare mobile phone deals to get the deal that suits your lifestyle and your wallet. A number of online resources have hints and tips on getting the best mobile phone deals and taking some points on board from these should help to save you a bit of cash.
