Deer Hunting Story: The Stand Of Cedars

The rays of bright morning sunlight filtered through the trees
of the forest as the sun rose over the steep wooded ridge. The
wind had died down, and there was hardly even a hint of breeze.
Just perfect conditions to intercept a deer heading back to the
thicket to bed down for the day.

George has been concealed in between two cedar trees since 4:30
AM, waiting for a deer to travel by on the well-used deer trail
less than 40 yards from his hiding place. George mentally goes
over his deer hunting equipment to make sure he remembers which
of his pockets everything is in. His trusty Winchester 30-30 is
laying across his lap. He can feel his Buck Knife on his belt,
and his spare cartridges in his pocket. He is ready.

Suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, appears a large whitetail
doe. George freezes as the deer sniffs the breeze and listens
for danger. She slowly, slowly, begins making her way down the
trail that George has been watching all morning. She’s less than
50 yards from George’s hiding place. The doe steps behind a
tree, & George uses the opportunity to raise his rifle. He rests
the barrel of his gun on a branch of the cedar tree he is hiding
under and draws a bead on the doe’s heart.

Just before George sqeezes the trigger, the doe stops and looks
over her shoulder, back into the thick stand of cedar and oak
trees less than 100 yards away. George follows her gaze and sees
a large deer standing on the edge of the thicket. The brush is
too dense to see, but George knows that this deer must be a
buck, possibly a large one.

George slowly, slowly rotates his rifle and motionlessly waits
for the buck to move. Minutes tick away, and the doe begins to
browse for food. The buck remains motionless. The wind begins to
change, and George nervously notes that if the wind continues
moving toward the SE like it is, the doe will soon smell him and
may bolt. Just then the buck begins to move. He slowly steps out
of the trees and sniffs the wind. Satisfied, he begins moving
towards the doe, apparently clueless to the fact that less than
80 yards away sits George, who quickly draws a bead on the
buck’s vital area. BAM!!! George’s trusty old 30-30 rifle sends
a bullet right into the left shoulder of the buck. The buck
bolts, but instantly crashes to the ground. His 312 pound body
hits the ground with a crash.

George sets the safety on his rifle and walks over to view his
13 point prize. Quite a trophy he is, too. It’s been a great day
of deer hunting!

Have fun in the capital - The London Eye and The Theatre

The city is awash with sensational venues to visit. Mentioned here are only two insights.

The London Eye is referred to as the Millennium Wheel, & for individuals who don’t realise, the wheel is in fact really a big wheel; an opportunity for the London masses to view London from uncounted and differing perspectives from around the heavens.

With near to forty kilometres of spectacular views on a sunny day, the Millennium Wheel gives its guests with magnificent panoramas of London & legions of its world famous monuments. The wheel is in fact possible to scout out the Millennium Wheel in the day or night - the challenging thing is thinking about which you want to do, investigate in daylight whilst all the landmarks are observable or at night for an uncommonly mind-blowing view of London’s lights.

Theatreland around our capital has been around since times of Victoria, in fact, most of the theatres are of latter Victorian or Edwardian build. All the properties enjoy a stunning personality and this boosts the appeal of going to them. West end events have runs for an irregular amount of time. This is often dependent on the theatre’s ticket sales. Find out what London shows are on with Time Out London.

You’ll find that tickets are not as expensive as they used to be, even so they remain not cheap. If someone books them early a system will probably purchase the tickets for a reasonable price. Look out for deals that some organisations may give. Possibly it would be nice to go out so you can get a mouth-watering meal before you go to the show, or maybe stay in one of our capital’s hotels later. Time Out will be sure to make your night at the theatre smother - and more fun with our traditional recommendations of which can be the leading shows to go to within out capital & perhaps what productions you should flee from.

Patio Umbrellas

Staying cool on the patio.

Nothing is more uncomfortable for you guests than to sit on a
hot concrete patio without any shade available. A good quality
patio umbrella helps block the sun and provide shade to offer a
cooler environment in hot months. Not only are umbrellas
practical, but they provide privacy and elegance to any outdoor
seating arrangement. Patio umbrellas are now made with many
unique features. Some beach umbrellas are designed for maximum
wind resistance.

There are several types of patio umbrellas to choose from
depending on your location. For typically patio or pool side
seating, a good choice is an aluminum crank patio umbrella. They
range in size from 7 to 10 feet and can be ordered in a variety
colors and patterns.

Beach seating requires a more heavy duty umbrella that can
withstand the elements. Beach umbrellas are typically made of
fiberglass and are built to withstand high winds, bright sun,
and salt air.

Patio umbrellas are also available as part of a patio table set.
These types are great for eating or picnic areas. They can seat
large groups of people and are also stain resistant, so clean up
is easy.

Another way to dress up your patio with umbrellas is to order a
custom design patio umbrella. Some can be built to look like a
palm tree umbrella, which is provides great atmosphere for any
beach or tropical resort. Also consider a patio umbrella that is
lined with small twinkle lights, which give a romantic
atmosphere for evening patio parties. Umbrellas can be lit up to
make it look like a night sky canopy.

Mosquito Netting and Control

When you think about mosquito control with netting, you can break it down into individual control and public control. Although many cities, states and countries may provide some sort of regulated mosquito control, you will probably also want to get rid of the pesky critters that plague your surroundings. Mosquito netting is a great solution too. Government pest control agencies may use pesticides in areas where there is a heavy population of mosquitoes, but that might not be enough to deter these insects. Bottom line you have to protect yourself form these little skeeters.

Mosquitoes are actually flies that will bite humans and animals, leaving itchy red welts that can bother you for days. For your own personal mosquito control, you might want to purchase insect repellent that contains DEET to keep the bugs from biting. You can get repellants in sprays, creams, sticks, and liquids.

Another popular type of mosquito control is the burning of citronella oil. The smoke from these candles or burners will keep the mosquitoes away, but in heavily windy conditions, the citronella may prove to be useless in keeping the mosquitoes away. Other options are to spray your camping gear and clothing with Permethrin, which is also an insecticide.

Whistler BC Ski Vacations - 9 Local Secrets for Getting Top Value

Whistler BC Canada is an exceptional winter destination ski resort, but you do not have to pay exceptionally high prices to enjoy its breathtaking beauty and unbeatable terrain diversity.

Whistler is affordable once you know the local money-saving secrets.

Here are 9 local tips for getting maximum Whistler value, while enriching your vacation experience to create beautiful lifetime memories.

Tip #1- Be Date-Flexible

Most ski vacation destinations have holiday date-driven pricing grids. Some vacation dates will cost you more (like New Year’s), while, others will cost you a lot less.

Fortunately, most seasonal price fluctuations have little to do with snow conditions, and more to do with consumer demand!

Whistler is no different.

What does this mean for you?

You will pay a lot less, get great snow conditions and avoid crowds by planning your vacation around non-peak holiday dates.

Here are some of Whistler Blackcomb’s best kept secret vacation dates, when you can expect to get the hill to yourself and get better accommodation value:

  • Nov. 24-Dec.23 2005
  • Jan. 3-Feb. 18 2006
  • Mar. 1-March 15 2006
  • Apr. 1-10 2006br

Tip #2- Reduce Your Whistler Accommodation Costs by Arriving and Departing a Few Days Earlier or Later During Peak Holiday Periods

If you are planning on visiting Whistler during peak holiday dates like Christmas, New Years, Spring Break or Easter, try to
arrive and leave day or two earlier or later.

This will not affect the total number of days that you enjoy Whistler, but could limit the number of nights for which you are paying top accommodations dollar in peak holiday season, which can often translate into many hundreds of dollars in accommodation savings.

Limit the number of nights that you stay in the most expensive seasons by adjusting your arrival and departure dates to include cheaper seasonal rates.

Tip#3-Plan Vacation Dates Around Lift Ticket Seasonal Pricing Dates

Like accommodations, Whistler lift ticket seasonal price ranges also reflect peak holiday dates. Lift tickets cost more during peak holiday periods.

In cases where your lift ticket may overlap date-driven price ranges, the total price you pay for a Whistler Blackcomb lift pass is determined by the date-driven price scale in which your first skiing/riding day falls.

Plan your vacation around starting to ski/ride within a date-driven price range with the lowest lift ticket prices, even if you start on the last day of that date-driven ticket season price. As long as your first day falls in the best price range, your entire ticket price will fall within he cheaper range.

For example, the 2005/2006 ticket window price for 5 of 6 day tickets that start November 24-December 23 inclusive, is $335.00 CAD + 7% GST. The same 5 of 6 day ticket that starts December 24-January 1, 2006 will cost you $360.00 CAD + 7% GST.

In this example, if you start skiing/riding on December 23, 2005, your entire lift ticket will cost $335.00, even though most of your skiing/riding days will be in the more expensive seasons.

Tip #4-Take Advantage of Pre-Booking Incentives

Whistler Blackcomb heavily rewards customers who pre-book their lift tickets online.

Pre-purchasing your 5 or more day discount Whistler lift tickets for your 2005/2006 ski vacation by October 31, 2005 will save you 18-35% on your passes, without any date exceptions. In addition to great savings, you also get a free adult ski/snowboard group lesson on your first day of skiing/riding with every 5 or more day ticket purchased by October 31, 2005.

For example, purchasing a 6 of 7-day lift ticket starting on December 23, 2005, will reward you with a savings of $128 CAD and a free adult ski or snowboard lesson, providing that you purchase it by October 31, 2005.

What if you can’t book your vacation by October 31, 2005?

You still save 5-20% on tickets pre-purchased within 72 hours of picking them in the resort.

Tip #5-Be Aware of Date-Driven Promotions & Plan Accordingly

In addition to early booking incentives, Whistler Blackcomb also offers Whistler Discount Discovery Weeks, when the resort’s most popular ski and snowboard programs are 50% off.

There are no booking deadlines to qualify, and the promotion takes place during 11 different Whistler ski season weeks.

If you book your vacation to fall within these date ranges, you would save $260 on a 5-day kids ski or snowboard Adventure Camp, or $50/day per adult group lesson.

Tip #6-Don’t Just Focus on Ski-In/Out Accommodation

Staying in a Whistler ski-in/out location will cost you a lot more per night, but often does not result in a better ski vacation experience.

Why?

Slope side properties tend to be smaller, more expensive, and less accessible to Whistler Village.

Thanks to a fantastic free Whistler shuttle system, getting to and from the slopes and Whistler Village from most resort locations is easy, fast and free. You don’t have to pay more for the location convenience of slope side accommodation to enjoy the benefits of being close to everything, including the slopes.

Take the time to look at ALL accommodation options within a 10-minute walk to the lifts. You will often get more square
footage, amenities and accessibility to Whistler Village conveniences for the same, or less, money.

Tip #7-Book Accommodation Directly with Owners

Booking your accommodation directly with owners offers you the benefits of wholesale accommodation prices, a personal home, and a personal, locally knowledgeable resource person when you need it.

Renting directly from owners enables you to bypass all unnecessary middle agent fees and commissions.

There are over 470 Whistler homeowners who now rent their condos privately and directly to Whistler visitors. Booking online
directly with owners is easy, secure and guaranteed.

If you have never rented directly from an owner before, we recommend that you review these Whistler condo booking tips.

Tip #8-Book Other Vacation Services Direct with Local Businesses to Avoid Middle Agent Fees

Booking activities such as heliskiing, snowmobiling and ground transportation directly with local businesses is another way to save money.

Some Whistler BC accommodation companies work directly with local partners and pass on all referral commissions to their
guests as savings. These Whistler BC discount consumer-direct programs help you save money, but more importantly, you get expert, friendly service directly from knowledgeable local residents who are eager to help you discover Whistler’s beauty and secrets!

Tip #9-Take the Time to Research Flights

With gas prices expected to climb even further, it is worth it to take the time to research flights.

Using consolidator services like Expedia.com, Travelocity.com and CheapTickets.com offer the benefits of rapid price comparison and easy online bookings, however, you should also check prices for booking direct with airlines. You will sometimes get better deals and seats. Most airlines now offer easy online bookings and seat selection. Even if there is no price difference, but you can get better seats, it is worth your effort.

Conclusion

Although these tips are Whistler BC-specific, they can also be generally applied to any other ski resort destination. They each have their own promotions and incentives.

Reward yourself with maximum value by taking the time to research pricing and resort promotional programs and try to plan your dates accordingly. Book directly with owners and local businesses for friendly service, local expertise and consumer-direct value.

Above all, remember that in the end, vacations are not about how much money you saved, but about whether or not you created a brilliant lifetime memory with your friends and family. Whistler is an unforgettable place where you can rest, rejoice and renew with your loved ones. Saving money is just the icing on the cake!

Basics of Asphalt and Material

Material

Over 70 million metric tons of asphalt paving material is
recycled each year. Today, asphalt pavement is America’s most
recycled material. You’ll learn why asphalt has been the most
popular roofing material for the past 100 years. An asphalt
emulsion or a recycling agent is added, then the material is
placed and compacted. How asphalt shingles are made: Asphalt
shingles are made of asphalt flux, a material which is refined
from petroleum in the distillation process. It occurs also in
asphalt rock, a natural mixture of asphalt with sand and
limestone, which when crushed is used as road-building material.
Summary Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is added to virgin
paving material at a 15% rate, reducing paving materials costs
and avoiding landfill disposal costs. The material will now be
at least 300 degrees F and the asphalt is added at that
temperature. The sector has achieved 100% recycle of used
asphalt, which makes it the most recycled material in Wisconsin.
Air Emissions The mixing and drying of asphalt material produces
dust and all plants are required to have emission controls to
remove particulate. Then drive over the patch with your car to
press the material into the asphalt. In this measurement method,
the hot mix asphalt plant is considered as including the
loading, unloading and discharge areas of aggregate material.
Because asphalt bears the weight of cars extremely well, it has
become a very popular material for parking lot construction.
Patching asphalt is usually a matter of bringing new material to
the affected area and pressing it into the cracks or potholes. A
mixture of asphalt and rocks makes good roadway material after
it hardens.

Pavement

After everything of value is removed, the leftovers are made
into asphalt cement for pavement. When properly designed for
traffic conditions, asphalt pavement provides a permanent
pavement structure. The initial cost of asphalt pavement
construction is usually less than that of concrete. A major
concern of Governmental and Industry representatives throughout
the country involves extending training efforts to a wider
universe of asphalt pavement technologists. Prior to application
contractors must repair pavement cracks, chips and joints and
prepare the concrete surface for the rubberized asphalt overlay.
A recycling agent is used to soften and rejuvenate the existing
asphalt pavement. The award honored the turnpikeâ%u20AC%u2122s
asphalt pavement because after 50 years of use, motorists are
still traveling on the original pavement structure. The mixing
of recycled asphalt pavement into new bituminous concrete is
also standard practice in this industry. The project will study
the relationship between good pavement construction practices
and the long-term durability of asphalt pavements. Engineers
select and calculate the correct quantities of each rock size
needed to produce a strong asphalt pavement. The roller is very
heavy and smashes all of the air out of the pavement which helps
to make the asphalt very strong.

Concrete

Recycled asphalt concrete (RAC) is the product of mixing RAP
with new aggregates, asphalt and/or recycling agent. Finally a
one and one-half inch layer of hot asphaltic concrete is
applied, raked and rolled. Aggregate Industries is your one-stop
source for asphalt, aggregates, and ready mixed concrete.
However, while porous concrete is available on the island, so
far porous asphalt is not. After a short mixing period to coat
all the particles with asphalt the bituminous concrete mixture
is conveyed to the load out storage tank. The ATD-G is primarily
characterized by bi-block concrete sleepers directly supported
by an asphalt layer. Cut-back Asphalt Concrete is produced by
dissolving the binder in kerosene or another lighter fraction of
petroleum prior to mixing with the aggregate. Natural asphalt
concrete can be found in some parts of the world where rock near
the surface has been impregnated with upwelling asphalt.

How To Find A Proper Fitting Backpack

No matter who you are or what you do, a proper fitting back pack is a must have. There are hundreds of different styles of backpacks today. You can buy a day pack, travel pack or baby backpack. If you need packs for your children, you can buy a school backpack. Busy professional? No worries. Why not try laptop backpacks, computer backpacks or notebook backpacks. You can even buy skateboard backpacks and picnic backpacks thanks to the wide range of styles available.

A back pack is only as good as it’s fit however. You may have the right pack but the wrong fit. This is a recipe for disaster! Why do you need to fit your pack? An ill fitting pack can result in short term and long term back pain and injury. Who is most at risk? Children! Did you know that 40 million children will wear back packs every year? Many of those put too much in the pack or sling a pack over one shoulder. Those are definite no nos!

Tips For Proper Fit
After you buy your back pack, you should make sure it fits properly. Here are some tips to help you establish a good fit:

Buy a pack with wide, padded shoulder straps. The thinner the straps, the less comfortable. You are more likely to wear a pack incorrectly if it is not comfortable.

Make sure the straps are long enough. You may need a pack with extra length if you are very tall.

Never put more weight in a pack than you can comfortably carry. You should carry roughly 15 percent of your weight or less in a pack. Any more and your posture will change to accommodate the weight load. This can result in back strain and injury.

Position your pack low on your back. You should never wear your pack too high. This can increase shoulder and neck pain.

Adjust the hip belt correctly. Your pack should rest right above your hip bones. For smaller packs, the hipbelt serves as a bounce reducer. It helps keep the pack comfortably in place. For larger packs, the hip belt also helps distribute the weight load more evenly.

Use both straps to carry your pack. This is a must especially for children, who have a tendency to fling their pack over one shoulder. Using just one strap increases the amount of back pain and discomfort you are likely to experience.

Typically if you are able to stand up straight and comfortably when using your pack, you have a good fit.

How To “Pack” Your Sack
Most people mistakenly believe they should place the heaviest objects they need to carry in the bottom of their backpack. This is not the case. You need to try to distribute weight throughout your pack. Most heavy items do best toward the middle of your pack, closest to your back. If you place too many heavy objects toward the top or outside of your pack, your posture will shift to accommodate the added burden. Don’t forget to secure the hipbelt to help distribute the weight of your pack more evenly.

When packing your sack, always place your “must have” items toward the top of your satchel (provided they aren’t too heavy). This will add much convenience to your life. You don’t want to grab a quick snack or sip of water only to find your water bottle buried under a day’s supply of socks, towels and underwear. Convenience is key.

If you have a lot of bulky items to carry like a pot or pan, be sure to pad them well. You can wrap them in your clothes so they don’t stick out and irritate your back while carrying them.

Don’t forget to put any products that might leak, like lotions or gels, in small zip lock bags. Nothing is worse than a day of hiking only to find your lotion spilled all over your change of clothes!

Remember, a back pack is the number one multi-purpose carry all. Even if you are a business executive you’ll find a sack much more comfortable than a traditional suitcase, especially when fitted properly.

What are hydrofoil supported catamarans?

The simplest way to describe the hydrofoil system is to
imagine a wing much like an aircraft’s wing fitted on the bottom
of the boat that creates lift, caused by the forces of the
moving water as would the air on an aircraft’s wing. This lift
then elevates the hull of the boat out of the water so that the
hull only touches on the planning surfaces and reduces a high
percentage of the drag that would normally result due to
friction on the wetted surface of the hull. The less drag the
more efficient the hull performs and the more economical the
boat becomes. The other aspect that is often forgotten is that
as with an aircrafts wing the resultant lift created by surface
movement is also able to support large weights, which means that
when the boat is heavily loaded the load is not noticeable as
with other conventional hulls.

The Hydrofoil Supported
Catamaran (HYSUCAT) is a hybrid of a catamaran hull equipped
with a hydrofoil system between the demi-hulls which carries a
part of the crafts weight at speed.

The effcient load carrying capability of the hydrofoil system in
combination with the inherent stability and pleasant seakeeping
properties of the planning catamaran results in a most
economical high speed surface craft with excellent seakeeping
behaviour. The specific hull design is an asymmetrical catamaran
hull with a centre-pod rounded tunnel. Specially designed and
patented sprayrails which were incorporated into 24 degree
deadrise hulls.

System benefits: Fuel efficient, Increased speed, Increased
stability & Comfort Less resistance, more maneuverability.

The Natural And Historic Wonder Of Cades Cove Tennessee

If you miss Cades Cove Tennessee while traveling in the southeastern part of the United States, you’ve missed one of the most picturesque locations in North America.

Cades Cove is a 6,800 acre scenic paradise located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Townsend and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. With nearly two million visitors a year, Cades Cove TN is one of the most visited areas of any National Park located in the United States.

Cades Cove Tennessee belonged to the Cherokee Nation prior to 1818 and was settled by John and Lucretia Oliver in the fall of 1818. The Cherokee were not a threat to the small numbers of whites in the cove for a few short years until a larger population suddenly turned them hostile. It is sadly ironic that the Cherokee, who befriended and helped the Olivers survive their first few years in the cove, were eventually chased out principally by John Oliver himself.

Cades Cove fell on hard times during the Civil War as most of the population supported the Union and were harassed by Confederates from North Carolina.

The Cove returned to it’s rural lifestyle after the Civil War as industry began to spring up in the surrounding the areas. This led to a slow migration from the Cove through the early 1920’s when the Great Smoky Mountain National Park was established in 1926.

The last resident, Kermit Caughron, lived in the Cove until he passed away in 1999. Despite Kermit’s home being of important historic significance, the National Park Service decide to tear it down in 2001 because it did not fit in with the historic setting of the Cove.

Even though life was harsh for the early settlers of Cades Cove TN, they must have had a wonderful appreciation for the breathtaking beauty of the land they called home for many years. Despite the unfortunate outcome of the Cades Cove community, the land is now preserved for all to enjoy.

There are many recreational activities to participate in while visiting Cades Cove, but by far the most popular is to drive the 11 mile loop around the cove. Many choose to ride a bicycle around the loop to get a more intimate view of the scenery and some even walk.

You can spend anywhere from a couple of hours to the entire day enjoying the Cades Cove loop. If spotting wildlife is your aim, you need to arrive early in the morning or stay till dusk.

Besides the loop road, Cades Cove TN also offers camping, picnicking, hiking, fishing, biking, hayrides, guided programs and shopping. The shopping is not the crass commercialization you find in Gatlinburg. Mostly you will find freshly milled grains, historical items, books and photography relating specifically to Cades Cove or the surrounding area.

Camping in Cades Cove is truly an enjoyable experience. It is the most popular campground in the National Park. If you would like to camp in Cades Cove you can make reservations via the National Park Reservation Center. You can only make reservations up to 3 weeks in advance online or 5 months in advance by calling 1-800-365-2267.

The rich history and the stark beauty make Cades Cove Tennessee a must see on your next trip through the Southeastern United States…don’t miss it!

Summer has come and so have the swimming pool trips. Put on your bathing suits.

Summer has come and so have the swimming pool trips. Put on your
bathing suits.

Swimming pools in summer feel like a heaven. Cannot imagine a
summer without swimming pools. Getting in the pool is not only a
great feel but a swimming pool is also a treat for your eyes {I
mean the cool water}.

In tropical and warm areas of the world there are wonderful
beaches and they offer a great place to swim. But not all parts
of the world have this great blessing and swimming pools makes
these deficiencies vanish to some extent. Although given a
choice I will be off to the beach. Afternoons and late
afternoons and also early evenings are the best times to jump
into a swimming pool.

If you are interested in starting your own pool for the season
then it’s a great way to go. First drain all the water in the
swimming pool. Use cleaning agents to clean the water clean.
Throughout the swimming season you should be brushing the sides
of your pool to loosen debris that collects there, you should be
reversing your pumping system to help clean out any build up,
and you should be vacuuming the water and skimming the surface.
This will keep your pool in tip top shape through out the season
and it will make your pool an enjoyable place to be near.
Although working on the pool may seem a lot of work its not.
Also you can hire swimming experts to do the job for you but its
not recommended unless you are rich and no time on these
activities.

Swimming is very dangerous for children. Never leave your
children alone in or near the pool, even for a moment. You must
put up a fence to separate your house from the pool.

Power safety cover that meets the standards of the American
Society for Testing and Materials should be installed. Always
rescue equipments and telephone by the pool in case of an
emergency.

When trying to teach children how to swim be with them all the
time and do not permit to go alone even with a tube. Children
have to be carefully monitored during their stay at the swimming
pool.

Swimming pools come with the gift of convenience. Also beware
of the swimming pool leaks. Presence of algae indicates a pool
leak. When in doubt call a leak detection company to further
assist you in determining if you pool has a leak.

If everything is fine then enjoy the swimming in your favorite
swimsuits.
