Things You May Not Know about Water
Water is an enigma. It surrounds us every day. It’s in our showers, in our mains, in our dishwashers and washing machines, bottled tapped and filtered. But how much do we really know about it? The answer is, not a heck of a lot. You may remember from your science days that water is comprised of hydrogen and oxygen, hence the symbol is H2O. This we can claim to know. The fact that water is good for the body, that it helps all the organs function properly. This most of us will also have some knowledge of. When it comes to how much we should drink, the facts are a little more sketchy. Some say two litres, others say eight glasses, still others say, as much as you ruddy well can. But still we all know to drink and we all know that the more generally is the merrier. Or is it? Actually, if you drink too much too quickly, it can lead to a thing called intoxication. This intoxication occurs when water dilutes the sodium level in the bloodstream and causes an imbalance of water in the brain. This usually happens to athletes or those doing high impact exercise such as dancers in clubs under the influence.
