Camp Cooking - Lessons Learned Through Making Mistakes

My family, friends, and I love camping and camp all summer long. I usually end up the one who does most of the cooking. While I love to do this, I have learned some tips that have helped me along the way.

1. Be prepared and have a backup plan for those rainy days.
I learned this lesson on a camping trip where it down poured everyday of our trip. I thought I had done a great job planning every meal. Unfortunately, almost all of my meals included a dish that needed to be cooked. Not to mention we really had no other place to eat but the tent. With the rain and nothing “good” to eat, everyone was miserable.

What I learned from this experience is to always have some food that is already prepared and is easy to eat while sitting in a tent. Some foods that I make sure I am never without while camping include: pop tarts, cheese and crackers, ingredients for sandwiches, fruits and vegetables (either fresh or dried), trail mix, granola bars. For drinking, juice boxes are a nice alternative for children. They are harder to spill while eating in a tent.

2. Cooking and storing chicken is easier if the chicken is parboiled before your trip.

What better way to eat chicken than cooked over a campfire. Sounds good but you need to be careful how you store and cook raw chicken. I have found that it is much easier to bring chicken along when it is parboiled at home. This eliminates the need to store it in a separate cooler. No more drippy raw chicken juices all over the bottom of your ice chest. Also, the chicken only needs to be reheated. No more worrying whether the chicken is cooked thoroughly. From a cook’s point of view, this makes life while camping much more pleasurable.

3. Bring oven mitts or pot holders.

I could not tell you how many times I forgot the potholders and I have the scars to prove it. I went out and bought the silicone oven mitts. Most of the silicone mitts can withstand temperatures up to 550 degrees. These are also great for doing anything around the camp fire: adding wood, roasting marshmallows, and putting out the fire to name a few.

4. Lighters or matches.

I guess this would be a matter of how you are camping or what you prefer. I prefer to use the long handled lighters rather than matches. I find it is easier to light either a fire or your charcoal with a lighter. I can control the lighter better and you don’t have to worry as much about a lighter getting damp.

These were just a few hints and tips that I have gathered over the years. I hope they have helped you make your camping experience a little less stressful and a lot more fun. Happy Camping!!

UK Becoming Hottest Destination for Indian Outsourcing Companies

Filed under:The Software Way — posted on @ 4:30 pm

According to new report, first time, UK has become leading market for outsourcing. The UK has overtaken US to become the top national market for new outsourcing contracts. According to TPI, UK represented 37% of the market for major outsourcing contracts awarded worldwide in this year. UK is followed by US - 25% and Asia-Pacific with 4%. However, it is understood that, UK will not continue its leading position as majority of the outsourcing chunk is because of deals by Reuters and BT. Even in this quarter, without Reuters and BT, UK would have been second largest national market.

However, Europe still dominates market and accounted for over 50% of the new contracts worldwide. According to Duncan Aitcheson, Tip’s Managing Director, International:

“While some may argue that Europe’s 2.4 billion mega deal - the Reuters/BT contract - skews the results for this first quarter, Europe still accounted for well over half (57%) of new contracts worldwide - a high point for European outsourcing.”

Also, so-called big six suppliers in the outsourcing market which are - Accenture, ACS, CSC, EDS, HP and IBM have seen their combined market share to fall by 57% in the first quarter of 2005. 60% of the senior management in UK companies are looking at big Indian outsourcing providers who are providing outsourcing services like their western counterparts but at low cost. This growing confidence in Indian outsourcing companies will further allow increase in their market share and decrease in the market share of big six and other western consulting companies. This also gives a wider choice for clients.

Myths About Skin Cancer Are You Safe?

Filed under:Hall Of Medical Resources — posted on @ 4:27 pm

Sara spends much of her summer near the beach. She lives in a mild climate and is very athletic. She loves to swim, bike and play games outdoors. Sara knows the dangers of the sun and so she opts for tanning salons to get her ‘golden glow’ while being sure to apply sunscreen every day before heading out.

Joseph lives in a cooler, northern climate. The summers can be very humid, but most of the year is mild or even below freezing during the harshest winter months. The beach has never been much of a draw for him and he spends most of his time doing indoor activities or at his job. Joseph doesn’t worry about sunscreen and only had one sunburn that he can remember and that was when he was a child.

Which of these examples do you most associate yourself with? Did you know that Sara and Joseph are both at risk of developing skin cancer? We have all heard the warnings about the dangers of sun exposure. We know all about the importance of wearing sunscreen and hats. But are YOU protected from skin cancer? Consider these myths and facts:

MYTH ONE: Tanning Beds are Safer than the Sun

20 minutes of exposure in a tanning bed is roughly equivalent to four hours in the sun. Although sun beds use UVA rather than UVB rays, ‘The Skin Cancer Answer’ states that “UV-A penetrates more deeply into the skin than UV-B, can cause skin cancer, and may suppress the immune system.”

MYTH TWO: Wearing Sunscreen at the Beach is Protection

85 percent of UV rays can even make it through on cloudy days. That means you are equally at risk in the car, walking the dog or letting your children out to play at any time of year, even when you’re not at the beach. Of course, you are usually less attired at the beach and so covering up is recommended even when wearing sunscreen. Sunscreen also wears off with sweat and water and should always be applied every two hours or after getting wet.

MYTH THREE: Taking Care Of Your Skin Now Will Protect You

Sadly, skin cancer can take 20 or more years to develop. The Skin Cancer Foundation states that most people receive about 80 percent of their lifetime sun exposure before the age of 18. Just one blistering sunburn in childhood is estimated to double the risk of melanoma later in life. Taking better care now will reduce the risk, but not eliminate the damage already done.

MYTH FOUR: Having a Tan Means You’re More Protected

Dark skinned individuals are less likely to develop cancer, but tanned skin is actually damaged skin. Repeated tanning injures the skin and increases the risk of skin cancer.

So how do you plan to protect your family this year? Some suggestions are to limit exposure to the sun, especially for infants. Examine your skin for early signs of damage. Use a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher and apply it at least 30 minutes before exposure and every two hours after that. Teach your children good safety habits and be sure you and they are covered up when outdoors. Have fun and be safe.

How to Write a Keyword Rich Article

Filed under:Living With Publishers — posted on @ 4:20 pm

The creation of a Website that contains many of the words that qualify as keywords is not that difficult. A Website that is full of a particular keyword earns a high ranking in any list of related articles. However, a Website with a lot of keywords does not always motivate an Internet surfer to look long and hard at that particular Website. To achieve that, one must learn how to write a keyword rich article.

For example, a search of Websites with the keywords CNC cutting machine yields a list of many Websites with details on various CNC cutting machines. Those Websites of the top of the list might be helpful to the machine buyer, but they may not hold the interest of an Internet surfer. However, someone who knew how to write a keyword rich article about the CNC cutting machine could probably hold many of the Internet surfers who drifted onto any site with such a keyword rich article.

There is not one standard approach used by all those who know how to write a keyword rich article. Some of the keyword rich articles started life as conventional short commentaries on some event or product. The deft writer then substitutes keywords into various spots within the written article. Some writers find that such word substitution is the easiest way to produce a good, keyword rich article.

Other writers know that step one of learning how to write a keyword rich article might be choosing a focus for whatever will be written. They look for something that is interesting and different. These writers then address a particular topic, but they usually pepper with many keywords whatever they choose to write.

Once a writer has chosen a topic, then that individual needs to create many reasons to introduce into an article a large number of phrases, phrases that contain the selected keyword. If for example a writer is dealing with the topic of history of the cell phone, then the writer might put in the first paragraph a phrase such as this: before anyone had chosen to write about the history of the cell phone… The ability to come up with such phrases demonstrates an understanding of how to write keyword rich articles.

Of course, the mere creation of multiple keyword phrases seldom serves to hold the interest of the reader. Those phrases must be presented in an organized manner. They should help a writer to illustrate with keywords the important points within any article.

Become Obsessed With Feeling Good

Most of us have experienced certain moments of joy. Yet there are many people are walking around habitually sad, depressed, anxious, stressed, worried, angry, burned out, shut off or numb. Is it possible to rise to a higher state of greater joy, and to experience the everyday, easy flow of spontaneous, automatic joy?

Many religions and spiritual teachings instruct joy is an inner quality. The belief is at the core of each person lies calm, radiant joy. In other words, everyone is born inherently happy. If joy is every person’s birthright, why don’t we all feel joy most of the time? For starters, we have taught ourselves, with much repetition, to focus on things which make us feel worse. We have become addicted and accustomed to feeling bad about ourselves. Stress and worry are common strategies utilized to poke, prod and push away what feels bad but without then connecting to what feels good. Sure, we may say we want to feel happy, but the behaviors we practice don’t bring us any closer to joy. Pain and discomfort are tolerated. Worries are clung to, unhappy thoughts dwelled upon. Critical thoughts are acceptable, routine and automatic. We are experts at postponing joy.

Here’s how we usually handle life situations: An unpleasant experience is encountered. Anxiety, frustration, anger, worry, or a helplessness belief is felt. Tons of energy is focused on the problem itself. Not on what is wanted, but on the problem. The problem or unpleasant experience is fixated upon, worried over, analyzed, kicked around, picked at, obsessed over. The mind conjures up worst case scenarios. The overemphasis of attention on the problem creates additional uncomfortable feelings. A physical stress response is initiated creating a fight, flight or paralysis response. We drive ourselves into quite a frenzied state of feeling badly. All because we mistakenly believe the external situation must be resolved before we can feel better.

How To Feel Good

If indeed at the core of every being lies joy itself, than the process of experiencing joy is an internally directed, self-allowed state. In other words, joy is a choice. There is no problem to be solved first. There is no event, no person, nothing external which can provide the state of feeling good we search for. There is nothing to accomplish, achieve or attain before becoming worthy of feeling joy. Joy is not something to be earned. We don’t have to be popular, thin, rich, good enough, nice enough, or even pretty enough to have this feeling of joy. Individually we allow, or disallow joy.

The next time you are feeling something less than joyful, try this little experiment. Acknowledge the aspect of self which isn’t feeling good. Ask, “What must I be thinking or believing to feel this bad?” Then remove attention from what feels bad and connect the imagination with what is wanted. At the very least, it’s good amusement to see how glued on we are to who wronged us or what is wrong with us. The stickiness of feeling badly is quite interesting. Instead of quickly removing attention from something which feels painful, we remain there. It’s like having our hand on a hot burner and not removing it. While our hand sizzles, thoughts play with the pain, questioning who’s fault it is our hand is currently on the burner, how to blame and hurt the person, or how to blame ourselves for having this experience. The simplest course of action seems to be removing the hand from the burner, thereby feeling better instantly. Amazingly, it requires gathering together of a tremendous will to move past painful emotions to a better imagined outcome.

To feel greater joy we willingly choose to go through a process of teaching ourselves the importance of feeling good, loving ourselves and wishing ourselves well. We decide to care more about how we feel than about what is happening. Self-love is the desire to feel good most of the time. Loving ourselves involves a decision to stop dancing with a problem and instead choose exciting ideas and enlivening thoughts as new dance partners.

Nothing Is More Important Than Feeling Good

Emotional pain is an inner guidance system. It simply informs that our current thoughts and emotional focus are not aligned with love of self. Emotional pain is a big clue to move on to something which feels better, looks better, sounds better. Learning to interpret physical sensations is how we understand if we are on the right track. We feel bad and recognize we’re not on the right track. No harm done. It’s just time to make some adjustments and find a situation, experience, thought or belief which feels good. If we are not feeling good, this is useful information concerning exactly what we don’t want. Our responsibility is to love ourselves to such an extent attention is consciously turned toward what is wanted. Imagination allows us to dwell on a preferred outcome and feel better almost instantly.

“Nothing is more important than my feeling good.” We can’t control circumstances outside of ourselves. Life is full of experiences. But we can, with practice, decide what goes on inside. In each moment we can choose what we want to think about, what we wish to imagine, and what we choose to feel. If we are not thinking thoughts creating feelings of safety or joy, we can choose again. We always have within the “freedom to choose” a slightly better thought or vision. “What can I do, in this moment, while I’m feeling unhappy to produce enjoyable sensations or experiences?”

Learning to become obsessed with feeling good takes time and practice. Happiness is a decision and one which must be supported with thoughts and actions. And it’s not a one time decision. It may be a daily, or even hourly, choice to remind ourselves feeling happy is our primary concern in life. We alone are responsible for creating our experience. Teaching ourselves to stay in present time, and to focus on what is wanted (instead of worrying) is a gradual process. Yet, it is possible to learn how to remove attention from disruption, anger, worries and stress, and instead place focused and excited attention on new desired outcomes. We determine how much time is spent playing in feeling good or feeling bad.

To each person, infinite potentials, infinite ways of being are available. From wherever we stand, from whatever unpleasant or unhappy situation is currently being experienced, another possibility is available for us to choose. However much joy is embodied, more is possible. The amount of power available to any one being is always capable of expanding. If life isn’t happy or joyful, recognize alternative potentials simply do not arrive on their own. We advance into greater joy by our own efforts, by self-motivated and self-constructed ways and means. We are the masters of our own destiny, fr*ee to shape our own evolution. It takes some determination, but we are capable of lifting our hearts into greater possibilities, lifting ourselves out of the stickiness of feeling bad and into more exciting imagined outcomes. Remember, today, in this moment, feeling good is available.

Summertime Blues

It’s summertime!

1. No one wants to be bothered.
2. It’s too hot.
3. It’s a beautiful day; everyone is out.
4. No one is thinking about work.
5. Prospects are getting ready to go on vacation.
6. Everyone is on vacation.
7. Prospects are just returning from their vacations
8. I’m preparing to go on vacation.
9. I’m on vacation.
10. I’ve just returned from vacation.
11. My assistant is on vacation.
12. Their assistant is on vacation.
13. No one is in on Mondays.
14. No one is in on Fridays.
15. Prospects are catching up midweek.
16. Prospects leave the office early.
17. Prospects go to the office late.
18. Prospects take long lunches.
19. No one makes appointments till after July 4th.
20. No one makes appointments till after Labor Day.

Print this list out. Send it to your competition. Then, get on the telephone!

Life and work continue, even in the summer! If it’s too hot, then your prospects will be in their nice, air-conditioned officeswhere you should be, too, making calls. If it is a beautiful day, some people may be out. The rest will not.

Everyone is not on vacation every day. If you happen to call someone who is on vacation, call them back when they return. If they are planning a vacation, schedule the meeting for when they return. If they have just returned from their vacation, schedule for a time when they say they will be caught up. If you are going on vacation, schedule for when you return.

Prospects are in the office on Mondays and Fridays, early and late. They are frequently at their desks during lunchespecially when you are calling the boss.

Prospects make appointments all summer long, just as they do in the fall, winter and spring. If a prospect asks you to call back after a holiday, suggest that you “pencil in a meeting for after the holiday.” Promise that you will call to confirm it. Do so!

Have a wonderful prospecting summer!
