Cool New Pin Clock

The Pin Clock from SmartHome works
like those pin things that you put your face in and the pins
push out making a contour map of your face. A mechanism inside
the clock keeps the time and then pushes some of the hundreds of
pins out to display the current time. Some online reviews of the
pin clock that we came across have said that the mechanism that
moves the pins in and out is a little noisy and probably
shouldn’t be put next to your bed, but we still like it.

Father’s Day Origins and Inspiration

Filed under:Internet Travel Resources — posted on @ 9:06 pm

While mothers have had their special day since 1914, fathers have only recently officially received the recognition they so richly deserve. After all, dad is the pillar of the family unit, the one who made us feel safe, loved to tickle and tease, and above all gave us a sense of security. While mom was the pillow to fall on, dad was the rock who held us up. Here are some thoughts and facts on Father’s Day, dedicated to every man out there who proudly wears the name DAD.

Origins

In 1909, listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day, Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd felt inspired by Anna Jarvis’s efforts and felt there should also be a Father’s Day. Her father, Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, had as a single parent raised his six children in Spokane, Washington after his wife’s death. She initially suggested June 5th, the anniversary of her father’s death, however, she did not provide the organizers with enough time to make arrangements, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday in June. Unofficial support from such figures as William Jennings Bryan was immediate and widespread. Calvin Coolidge recommended it as a national holiday in 1924 but the all-male U.S. Congress was mindful that passing a measure so favorable to males could be seen as a conflict of interest. In 1926, The National Father’s Day Committee met for the first time in New York City. Lyndon Johnson made Father’s Day a holiday in 1966, but the holiday was not officially recognized until the presidency of Richard Nixon in 1972 when he signed into law a permanent U.S. Father’s Day to be observed on the third Sunday of June.

Inspiring Words

When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years. - Mark Twain

I’m sure we all remember our teenage years and how true and insightful this statement by Mark Twain is. Here is another of my favorites:

It doesn’t matter who my father was; it matters who I remember he was. - Anne Sexton

What is a dad? I’m sure not everyone would answer exactly the same way but this poem by an unknown author seems to sum it up very well.

What Makes A Dad? -Unknown

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,

And then there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it - Dad.

Perhaps the most important thing a father can give us is love. Hold on to your memories of youth. Those things that your father did that made you feel so special and loved. My favorite memory is of my father coming into my room one night when I was crying. He was so concerned even though to him, my problem must have seemed insignificant. By the time he left, I was happy, and the world was a brighter place. Many of us have these kinds of memories.

Excerpt from the song Dance With My Father
Artist: Luther Vandross

Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around ’til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
How I’d love, love, love
To dance with my father again.

Be sure to let your father know how much he is loved and appreciated this Father’s Day.

Essentials in Time Management

Life is filled with essentials, and if we do not have the ingredients to make it work, then we are out of luck. Time management is one of the most important essentials in our life. If you think about it, we have 24- hours in each day, and seven or eight of those hours dedicated to sleep. One of the golden rules is “Sufficient for each day, for no one knows tomorrow.”

This is very true, because we do not know if a hurricane will wipe out our neighborhood, or if an act of disaster will hit our area and change all the plans, we made. So the steps to finding essentials in time management should be evaluated carefully. Planning is one of the elements to managing time, yet plans can change. This is why it is important to make a list of the tasks you are assigned and complete them as soon as possible. Once you finish your task, it becomes easier and you can move on to other tasks. You can start by reviewing emails and notes, since the two are essential ingredients that make time management work.

Email Essentials at Work

If you work at a company that offers an email account and most of your business is handled via Internet, then you know that excessive emails are annoying. Customer accounts, contracts, and other important documents we do not want to loose, so to keep your mailbox from piling up, it is smart to only give your email address to clients. We can avoid emails piling up by not providing information to advertisements that ask for our information.

If you want to place, an order for a product be sure to use an email account that does not send out information over the Internet. Many companies have a managing program that works to save time. Databases often store valuable information, and should be maintained. If you store information on the database, be sure to delete or store old files in a different area, so you can save time. If your email accounts only stores documents that are important to your business, you can save not only time, but also you can spare yourself from liabilities that may creep up. It depends on the company and what type of email account they require the employee to use, but Microsoft Outlook includes features such as address books, business and other features that help the user stay organized.

Essential Notes

Notes are essential since they too play a role in time management. Learning the techniques to taking good notes is a start in the right direction. When we take good notes, we are able to stay organized and run our life smoothly. If you attend a lot of meetings, it might be wiser to meet with the parties attending the meeting before it starts. This can help manage time by informing the co-workers ahead of the game what the meeting entails, as well as enabling you to take notes before the meeting starts.

Essentials in time management also include taking time out for yourself, preparing, keeping your priorities in order, and working toward the goals you set.

Are Titanium and Tungsten wedding rings for life?

Filed under:Life Of Relationships — posted on @ 9:44 am

When faced with the once-a-life-time decision of choosing a wedding band ring, everyone should do their own research in order to make sure they get the piece that can symbolize the eternality of marriage. For those who are seriously considering of buying the modern metals (titanium or tungsten) as wedding rings, here are some thoughts that are worth considering.

Will they be scratched?
Although titanium wedding bands are very strong and durable, the surface of the rings can actually be scratched. It takes another extremely hard object such as diamond to cut into the metal; however, it does not get damaged during normal daily use. For titanium rings with gold, silver or platinum inlay, the inlay part of the ring is as vulnerable as a ring that is made of the precious metal itself. In the case of minor a blemish, a titanium ring can be re-polished or refinished to restore the original appearance. On the other hand, tungsten rings are totally resistant to abrasions. Since tungsten carbide, the most common grade of tungsten alloy offered in the market, is extremely hard, it will NEVER get scratched.

Will they be bent out of shape?
Both titanium and tungsten have extremely high ductile strength. However, under extremely circumstances, titanium rings could bend out of round but a tungsten ring could not. If a high pressure is applied on a titanium ring, which could happen when being hit by a car door, the ring would bend when the force is strong enough. On the other hand, a tungsten ring stands a better chance of remaining intact, because tungsten in general is harder than titanium. However, once the force goes beyond the threshold, the tungsten ring will be fractured into several pieces instead of bend out of round. This characteristic, which we refer to as being brittle, is similar to that of diamonds whereas it is extremely hard but not ductile at all.

Will the color turn?
Neither of the metals will turn color. Titanium and tungsten alloy are biological inert and do not turn color with normal usage such as being exposed to the sun, in contact with sea water or cosmetic products.

Can they be resized?
The possibility of getting resized might be important since we gain or lose weight in the future. Due to the extraordinary high melting points of titanium and tungsten alloys, they cannot be cut and welded like traditional precious metals. Hence, resizing is more difficult, if not possible. Titanium wedding rings can be compressed or stretched up to one size, if there are no stones or inlay on the rings, with the help of special equipment. However, tungsten carbide wedding rings can not be resized at all. Therefore, one must measure the ring size carefully, possibility averaging the finger sizes at different times of the day, in order to avoid any sizing problem after the titanium or tungsten wedding band rings.

Time Managements

There are the golden rules that apply to time. If followed, your life will be successful. If you ignore these, however, you will always be scratching to catch up. Do not be one of the people you always here say “I don’t know where the time went, it just flew by!”.

1) Time is fleeting. Think about it…the moment you started reading this is gone, never to be regained. It seems we get so caught up in petty circumstances that we forget what we set out to do, and before you know it, the day is gone!

2) Time is valuable. You always have time to make money; but you can never have enough money to make time!

3) Time is unforgiving. The amazing thing about your time; even through no fault of your own, even “wasted” time will never stand still.

4) Time is money. You must be constantly asking yourself,”Am I doing the most productive thing I can be doing right now?”. Watch out for those “wasted” moments we were talking about earlier.

5) Time is changing. We all must constantly renew our minds, and let the past be just that…the past! It can’t help you now, aside from the learning experience, don’t dwell on it.

6) Time is the ultimate judge. We have all heard “time will tell!”. Well, there is some truth to that, as the future has a way of finding any flaw in the plan. Pre-planning will save massive amounts of your precious commodity called time.

7) Time is in your control. We can all be more in control of our day and how we spend it. Today should have been planned out yesterday, and tomorrow should be thought about today.

You can design your future, much like an architect designs a building. Start small, and work your way to the big things. Prioritize events and meetings in advance and stick to it. Things will always come up, so be vigilant, you will catch yourself doing un-productive things. The more you are “tuned in” to these events , the more you can do about it!

IVA Advice

An IVA (individual voluntary arrangement) is an alternative to bankruptcy introduced by the government as part of the Insolvency Act 1986. This article provides an overview of IVAs and suggests what readers should watch out for when looking for IVA advice.

What Is An IVA

An IVA is an alternative to bankruptcy introduced by the Insolvency Act of 1986. It enables individuals facing serious debt problems to make a proposal to their creditors to reach a settlement. If the proposal is approved by a majority of the creditors, then the IVA acts as a contract that binds all parties and prevents any further action.
A standard IVA will offer to pay whatever the debtor can afford each month into a fund over a five year period, until the debt is cleared. With an IVA:

  • Interest on the loan is frozen
  • Legal proceedings are stopped
  • The overall debt is reduced

Why Is It Important To Get Good IVA Advice

When considering an IVA it’s vital to get the best advice possible, and to work with an organisation that is both professional and independent. By getting unbiased advice you can be sure that you are making the right decisions and can be confident about the choices that you make.
Good IVA advice is also important because signing up to an IVA can involve a commitment of up to five years, so it’s important that you understand what you’re getting into.

What To Watch Out For When Looking For IVA Advice

There are some companies who may try to convince you to sign up to an IVA even if it’s not appropriate for you. Furthermore, some organisations offer IVA services but because they don’t specialise in them, they may not actually be the best people to take advice from.

What You Should Check For When Looking For IVA Advice

  • That the IVA advice you’re being offered is impartial
  • IVA Advice should take into account the perspectives of both the debtor and the creditors.
  • IVA advice should be compliant with appropriate licensing and regulation
  • Advisors should have IVA and debt management experience
  • All IVA advice and supervision processes and systems should be defined and governed by experienced professionals.
