Aggressive Behaviour Seems To Be Triggered By Early Age Diet

The fact that diet directly affects behaviour is no news, on the contrary, this reality has been perceived a very long time ago, as the old saying “a man is what he eats” proves.

Studies have been performed to ascertain the degree in which this happens. A study of the scientists and researchers from the University of Southern California shows that a lack vitamin B, zinc, iron from the diet during the first years of life seems to influence behaviour later on.

Malnutrition in early ages, shows the study, predisposes to neurocognitive deficits. These deficits will lead to behavioural problems, such as antisocial and aggressive behaviour, during childhood and adolescence.

It is common knowledge that the lack or the insufficient intake of certain substances influences body development and all the resulting aspects. Nutritive substances have certain specific nurture targets, namely they feed particularly some body parts. Thus, the nutrients for the brain play a crucial role in the subsequent development of the neural activity, affecting brain health and mental performance. The mental state is also influenced by nutrients, as they are essential ingredients in the biochemical processes that produce brain neurotransmitters. Serotonin and dopamine which are known to affect mood are such neurotransmitters.

It seems that behaviour and mental performance can be improved by a controlled diet. Especially at early ages, reducing malnutrition will help reduce later antisocial and aggressive behavior, as the study concludes. Results of such studies and researches are important for applying correct adjustments to diet beginning with early childhood not only to improve health state - or to help correct various illnesses generated by brain malfunctions - but also to enhance positive social behaviour of persons with a tendency towards violence and behavioural disordes.

To conclude, substances that are essential for the brain optimum functioning and that should be present in sufficient quantities in a balanced diet are:

  • the B vitamin complex - essential for the brain cells health and the formation of neurotransmitters - B1: bread, rice, pasta, and fortified cereals, pasta, pork; B5: meat, poultry, fish, whole-grain cereals, legumes, milk, vegetables, fruit; B6: chicken, fish, pork, liver, and kidney, whole grain cereals, nuts, legumes; B12: eggs, meat, fish, poultry, milk and dairy products;
  • essential fatty acids - Omega 3 - brain’s composition is 60% essential fatty acids - fish, especially cold water fish, seafood, olive oil or canola oil;
  • antioxidans (vitamin E, vitamin C, glutathione, coenzyme Q10, lipoic acid) - protect brain from free radicals that attack DNA, creating permanent cellular damage generating accelerated aging, memory loss and favoring chronic disease - fruit and vegetables, black tea, green tea, chocolate, red wine;
  • folic acid - essential for metabolism of long-chain fatty acids in the brain - bananas, orange juice, fortified cereals, lemons, strawberry, cantaloupe, leafy vegetables, dried beans and peas;
  • magnesium, potassium, calcium - necessary for good nerve functioning - magnesium sources: whole grains, legumes, nuts, and green vegetables; potassium sources: apricots, avocados, bananas, cantaloupe, grapefruit, honeydew, kiwi, oranges, prunes, strawberries, potatoes, meat, and fish, calcium sources: milk and diary;
  • iron - needed to carry oxygen to the brain cells and used to make brain neurotransmitters - lean beef, whole grain breakfast cereals, whole grain breads, raisins, dried apricots, legumes, bean dips, and bran muffins;
  • zinc - antioxidative role, important for memory - certain seafood - oysters, red meat, poultry, beans, nuts, whole grains, fortified breakfast cereals, and dairy products.

Online Trading Options Strategies - Rolling

Rolling is defined in options online trading as moving a position from one strike to another either vertically in the same month, horizontally to another month or some combination thereof.

Other times, you may have to buy your short call back so that you will not lose your stock. Sometimes, you may even want to allow the stock to be called away if you have decided that the stock has reached a level were you want to take your profits and begin to look for another opportunity.

The term roll means to move your position either out to the next strike or to move your position up or down a strike in the same month. The term roll means to move.

Rolling is normally done via time spread and/or vertical spreads. Without getting into the trading of spreads, which is a unique strategy in itself and a topic for future Options University courses, we will talk a little about the roll.

As stated before, the covered call strategy is most effective when executed month in and month out over an extended period of time.

In order to do this, an online trading investor must re-initiate the position every month at the option’s expiration. The re-initiation of the position every month is where the term rolling comes from. However, there may be times when you may want to give yourself a little more upside room for capital appreciation. In those rare cases, you will not want to roll the position, because it might be called away if the call you sold is exercised when it becomes in the money.

When an option’s expiration approaches, your short option can either be in-the-money or out-of-the-money. As we discuss the two potential outcomes, let’s first assume that we want to hold onto our stock.

If the option is going to finish out of the money, you would let it expire worthless and then sell the next month’s call. If the option is going to expire in-the-money and you want to keep the stock you will need to buy the short option back and sell the next month’s call.

This trade will consist of two online trading options. You will be buying one option and selling another, which is commonly known as a spread and is referred to as a single trade.

So, when you roll out your covered call or buy-write, you do it by doing a spread. The front month option, the one that you happen to be short, will be bought back thus ensuring you keep your stock.

The second month option will be sold short thus re-initiating your covered call strategy. The position that remains is long stock and short calls. As far as the selection process of the spread used for the rolling of the position, there will be some choices.

Of course, there is no choice as to the front month option, you must buy back the option you are short. However, you do have a choice as to the next month option you are going to sell, whether it be near term or farther out in expiration.

This goes back to our earlier conversation about lean. If you are no longer bullish then you would not have bought back your short call and instead allowed it to be exercised and have the stock called away from you. If you choose to roll the position then you must be somewhat bullish on the online trading stock. Your lean will dictate to you which new option to sell.

The Amazing Discovery Of The Stimulating Influence Of Coffee.

Coffee is a drink produced from the coffee grains. It is stimulating, because it contains caffeine. The use of the drink of the coffee had its origin in Kaffa, Abyssinia, today Ethiopia, when a shepherd called Kaldi observed that his goats were smarter and hopping around when eating the leaves and fruits of the coffee tree. He tried the fruits himself and he felt happier and with bigger vivacity. A monk of the region discovered this and started to use an infusion of the fruits to resist sleeping during his prayers.

The effect of the drink was spread, and in the16th century coffee was used in the east, being toasted for the first time in Persia. The coffee had enemies even between the Arabs who considered that the effects of the drink of coffee were against the laws of the Prophet Mahmed. However, as soon as the coffee won these obstacles, even the Arabian doctors adhered to the drink to help the digestion, to cheer the spirit and to stay awake, according to writers of that time.

In Arabia, the infusion of the coffee received the name of “Kahwah” or “Cahue”, meaning in Arab “force”. The classification - Arabian Coffea was given by the scholar Lineu.

In 1675, the coffee was taken to Turkey and Italy, but the drink considered Arabian was forbidden to the Christians and it only was allowed after the Pope Clement VIII tried it.

In its travel around the world, the coffee arrived Java later, reaching Holland and, thanks to the dynamism of the Dutch maritime commerce executed by the company of Occidental India, the coffee was introduced in the new world, spreading itself through the Guyanas, Martinique, Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico and Cuba.

The commercial establishments in Europe made solid the use of the drink of the coffee, and diverse houses of coffee had been world-wide known, as “Virginia Coffea House”, in London, and the “Coffee of La Régence” in Paris, where famous names as Rousseau, Voltaire, Richelieu and Diderot congregated.

Here goes a tip: if you’re a guy, don’t think that you are the only one that is going to be more vivacious and have more energy when you take a cup of coffee. Beyond you – believe it or not – your spermatozoa will obtain the same effects. This is what a Brazilian urologist concluded after coordinating a research, which turned international notice after being presented by him in a conference in San Antonio, United States. The results show that the men who take at least one cup of coffee on a daily basis present greater movement of the sperm. In other words, the spermatozoa have more energy and are quicker, increasing the possibility of making a woman pregnant. “The caffeine can increase the use of energy of the sperm, as if it were a stimulant. It is as if the spermatozoon took an energetic”, explains the researcher.

To affirm this, the semen of 750 fertile men and with active sexual life was tested by him. “Who takes coffee does not produce more sperm. The only alteration observed was in its quality of movement, independently of the amount of coffee ingested daily”, explains the urologist. In numbers, between the men who take coffee, 67% of the spermatozoa had mobility enough to arrive at the ovule, against 54% that did not take it. Now, the doctor will test men with fertility problems. “Depending on the results, we can suggest to the patient with little movement of the spermatozoa to take a cup of coffee”.

Arthritis Pain–How To Avoid Accidental Acetaminophen Poisoning

Filed under:Online Templates Resources — posted on @ 2:13 pm

Accidental Poisoning from Acetaminophen

Acetaminophen is the most popular painkiller in the US. It is
best known by the brand name Tylenol but is sold under 97
different brand names. It is known as paracetamol in many parts
of the world. It is also sold in combination with other drugs in
more than 100 products.

During cold and flu season, people who take acetaminophen for
arthritis are at risk for acetaminophen poisoning. Taking just
twice the recommended dose of acetaminophen can cause acute
liver failure. Unfortunately, this has already happened to an
alarming number of people because it isn’t hard to do. Two years
ago, more than 56,000 people visited the emergency room due to
accidental acetaminophen overdoses and 100 people died from
unintentionally taking too much. Worse yet, the numbers appear
to be growing.

How Can This Happen?

This happens so easily because acetaminophen is found in many
different products. If you are taking the maximum recommended
dose of just two acetaminophen-containing products, you can
easily take an overdose.

For example, the maximum recommended dose of acetaminophen per
day is 4000 mg. That equals 8 extra strength acetaminophen pills
per day. You might easily take that much for arthritis pain.

Now let’s say you get the flu and decide to take a Cold & Flu
product for your aches and stuffiness. Many of them include
acetaminophen as the primary ingredient for reducing fevers and
aches and pains. So, that will dose you with 1000 mg of
acetaminophen every 6 hours or another 4000 mg a day.

By taking both products at the maximum recommend dose, you put
yourself at risk for acute liver failure.

The problem doesn’t end there. You might get a head ache and pop
some Excedrin. That’s 500 mg more acetaminophen per dose. Maybe
you are in a car accident or have some dental work done.
Prescription narcotics like Vicodin and Percocet contain from
325 mg to 750 mg of acetaminophen inside each pill. That can
quickly add up.

Other Acetaminophen Complications for People with Arthritis

For some people, arthritis is caused by suboptimal
detoxification pathways. Such people do not have the level of
enzymes necessary to carry out the sulfoxidation necessary for a
body to properly process and detoxify acetaminophen. In these
circumstances, even the recommended level of acetaminophen may
cause acetaminophen poisoning.

Furthermore, this same pathway is necessary for detoxifying many
of the chemicals we are exposed to in our environment and
through our food. This means that our detoxification system can
also be weakened through chemical exposure. Similarly, if we
swamp our system with acetaminophen, we don’t have enough
detoxification power left to fully deal with all the other
assaults in our daily environment.

If you have any known food sensitivities or chemical
sensitivities, it is best to assume that your sulfoxidation
pathways are already challenged enough, without adding the extra
burden of acetaminophen in your system.

How to Avoid Acetaminophen Poisoning

Carefully read the label of any cold or flu medicine or
painkiller that you are considering to ascertain how much
acetaminophen it contains. Healthy young adults should never
exceed 4000 mg/day total from all sources for short term use.
For long-term use healthy young adults should never exceed 3250
mg/day, according to clinical pharmacist Sandra Dawson, RPh,
MSHA who lectures on pain management in long term care.

People who are vulnerable to damage from acetaminophen should
take no more than 2000 to 3000 mg per day, according to Dr
William Lee of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center. This lower maximum dose includes the healthy elderly
since liver and kidney function generally decline with age.

Recharge Your Battery

Filed under:House Of Self Improvement — posted on @ 12:10 pm

It was 4:15PM on a Thursday when I arrived at the hair salon to get my haircut. My hair appointment was at 5PM but I arrived there quite early.

As I set down in the comfortable leather chair in the little “waiting corner,” I looked down to my left with an intention to pick a magazine from the big basket that was filled with maybe over 50 magazines.

I sorted through the magazines but nothing would catch my eye. There were so many different magazines; I couldn’t decide which one to pick and read while waiting.

Then, as I lifted a big batch of magazines to choose from, one of them fell down on the floor. I immediately dropped all the other magazines back into the basket and took the one that fell on the floor.

The beautiful view of a tropical island in the background, surrounded by crisp clear water covering the entire cover of the magazine, got my attention.

The magazine contained a large number of photos from tropical islands, vacation resorts and everything tropical you can imagine. I submerged myself into the pictures so much that 40 minutes went by like 4 seconds.

When I was all done with the haircut, I asked Isabella (the hair stylist) if I could take the magazine. She said that it wouldn’t be a problem because anyway they recycle the magazines at the end of each month when they bring new ones in.

The magazine is called Islands. It was a June 2004 issue. When I went home I put it next to my computer and until today’s day, it’s still sitting there.

I look through it periodically. All my life I’ve lived in the northern hemisphere of the planet, and winter is definitely not my favorite season. Not to even mention the driving headaches when we get dumped with a few feet of snow.

The tropical theme has always been a dream place of mine.

So, every time I feel down, discouraged, marketing plan isn’t working well, a goal doesn’t get accomplished, problems and obstacles appearing out of nowhere, motivation is down, no inspiration, the world is coming down on me … and so on …

I take few peaceful minutes - no children, no computer. I pick up the magazine and literally isolate myself from this world. I transfer my soul to the tropical beauty shown in the pictures and I visualize myself living there and not just vacationing.

My battery gets recharged; I get the smile back on my face and I say to myself: “One day ….”

How many times have you felt down and depressed because of one reason or another?

How many times have you felt that you needed to recharge your battery? How many times have you lost your inspiration and motivation? How many times have you faced problems and obstacles that discouraged you from persisting with your goal?

What brought you up and what pulled you down during these crucial times?

I remember back in 1994 when I was starting college, a friend of mine gave me a study to read. The study came from a major corporate research. It was on “why executives rise to the height of their company and why other people don’t.”

The executives told in their words what they did to achieve such a success. I don’t have that study anymore but I remember it very well because I’m still practicing what they said.

One of the steps was to have material goals. Something that you can see.

The material goals represent something far beyond material form. When you visually see the material goals that you’re striving for, you receive the feeling of the kind of person you need to become in order to have them.

That feeling will recharge your fuel cells and bring your enthusiasm to the front line.

We live in a material world and we have to operate in a material world. We want material things because they’re a representation of who we are.

What you want is good, because what you want is an extension of you becoming better.

And sometimes, you just need a basic material something to spark you into a higher level of achievement.

Pedro Almodovar

Pedro Almoldovar was born in 1949 in Calzada de Calatrava in the
Castilla la Mancha region of central Spain. Since his film
making debut in the eighties he’s written, directed and acted in
more than thirty films and can easily lay claim to the title of
Spain’s greatest living film director.

Famed for his use of melodrama and his labyrinthine plots, his
films have never shied away from serious subject matter -
homosexuality, transvestitism and death (particularly death by
AIDS) have all popped up as themes throughout his work.
Almodovar also likes to use marginalised, socially ostracised
characters and groups in his films. It is this hunger for the
unconventional that has made people take note of his work. In
many respects his films were a response to the decades of
oppression under the dictatorship of Franco and Almodovar was at
the forefront of an artistic movement that was free to express
itself for the first time since the Civil War.

In 2004 the controversial director launched his most recent film
at the Cannes film festival. “Bad Education” drew on the
directors own experiences at a catholic school during the
sixties. The film confronts the sexual abuse of the boys by the
teachers and also the homoerotic love of two young students. The
film was met with universal acclaim and cemented Almodovar’s
position at the forefront of world cinema.

The films success followed on the back of the acclaim of his two
previous directorial efforts. “All About My Mother” was released
in 1999 to high praise from critics and cinema goers alike; it
was a candid story that showed a softer more mature side to
Almodovar’s direction and continued his use of women and the
idea of sisterhood that is prevalent in many of his works.
Almodovar later dedicated the film to “all mothers and any
actress who’s ever played a mother” and the Spaniard picked up
numerous awards at home and abroad including his first Oscar for
“Best overseas film”. In 2002 Almodovar released “Talk to Her”
to similar rave reviews and critical acclaim and the film earned
him his second Oscar for “Best screenplay”.

Before this golden period in Almodovar’s career, many thought
that his talents had lost their direction. His films of the late
80’s and 90’s had come in for some fairly heavy criticism and
had been the cause of some fairly fierce debate in cinematic
circles. “Tie me up, Tie me Down”, “High Heels” and “Kiki”. Some
were lambasted for their supposed misogynistic undertones
including a shocking rape scene from “Kiki”. “Tie me up, Tie me
down” also came in for some heavy criticism from women’s groups
for it’s portrayal of a women who falls in love with her
kidnapper.

Almodovar also famously gave a first acting role to Antonio
Banderas in his 1987 film “Law of Desire”. Banderas also took on
the lead role in the aforementioned “Tie me Up, Tie me down”.
Banderas later moved to Hollywood where he achieved great fame
as his career blossomed.

Amoldovar is currently shooting his latest offering due for
release in 2006; it’s entitled “Volver” (”Filming” in English)
and will star Hollywood actress Penelope Cruz, one of Spain’s
most successful daughters. At the moment it seems as if the
Spaniard can do no wrong and he’s acclaimed as one of the best
film makers in the world today having produced many films that
are already viewed as cinematic classics. At age 55, it’s clear
that the man has still got a lot to offer and we could still be
watching his creations for many years to come.

WRITING YOUR LIFE STORY - Some Common Obstacles and How to Overcome Them

“When the storyteller tells the truth, she reminds us that human
beings are more alike than unalike… A story is what it’s like
to be a human being - to be knocked down and to miraculously
arise. Each one of us has arisen, awakened.”

- Maya Angelou

Many people who consult with me regarding their family histories
are also adamant that they want to do the work themselves. I
encourage that. Who knows your personal stories better than you
do? Producing life story legacies through books or videos is a
priceless gift that brings families together and enhances lives
for generations to come. Let 2005 be the year that you start to
weave the tapestry of your family’s life in words and
photographs!

Don’t get bogged down with difficulties that prevent you from
moving forward with your stories. Here are three of the most
common life story writing challenges and some easy solutions for
them:

“I can’t seem to keep writing.”

Consult a personal historian for a list of story-starters or a
coaching session, so that you can get excited about your project
all over again. Find a writing group to join or start one of
your own that is devoted to life story writing and willing to
meet at least every two weeks. Read some good books on the
subject - “Writing The Memoir” by Judith Barrington is
particularly helpful and includes a section on forming a group.
Join an ongoing e-course to keep you motivated - Recollections
offers one or you can research others on the Internet.

“I can’t locate all the facts - birth dates, immigrant ship
landings, military regiments, etc.”

If you need help with research, Information Desk Librarians at
the local libraries are a great help! A personal historian can
also point you in the right direction. Often, all it takes is a
visit to the right website or the location of the right
genealogy book or magazine.

“I’ve got everything written down, but I’m not sure it makes
sense.”

This is where a good writer/editor, one who specializes in
memoir and personal history, can come in. An editor can tidy up
your work in a practical manner, assist with sentence structure
and flow and otherwise make your words sing! The difference
between a jumble of dry facts and a personal history is as near
as your telephone. If you want to do your own editing but aren’t
sure how to go about it, an editorial consultation will help
point you in the right direction.

Are you feeling stuck in some way that hasn’t been covered here?
Please don’t be discouraged! There are many resources available
to help you capture your family memories and those of your
relatives - in print, on audio or video. I sincerely hope this
is your year to begin such an important project!
