Tae Kwon Do As A Means To Stay In Shape

Becoming a martial artist is a fanatastic method of fitness. While there are many martial art forms to choose from, taekwondo is clearly the most beneficial, and the most practical. And while many realize the benefits of such exercise, the simple fact is most have no idea how to begin.

Getting in shape is a committment to essentially change the way life is lived for the better. But knowing this does not make the first step any easier to take, so many just give up.

Beginning a martial arts program obviously starts with choosing either a school or at the very least, an instructor. Both should be done carefully, but simply getting into a program is a must.

Taekwondo is more of a sport than a martial art, but this distinction makes the art form more readily transferrable to the general public. In short, nearly anyone can practice taekwondo, and with dedication, nearly anyone can become a formidable martial artist.

Taekwondo teaches the equal use of hands and feet, with the emphasis on becoming adept at using both the right and left sides of the body for defense and for attack. Perhaps more importantly than anything else, taekwondo stresses stamina and mental toughness, along with using sound techniques and being in control.

Most people have little or no time to spend getting and staying in shape, but with most taekwondo programs, any time during the day, there are classes to attend. This tends to solve the problem of finding the time to invest in something that is endlessly beneficial, and is yet another reason to choose taekwondo as the martial art to study.

But one of the aspects of taekwondo is how quickly one sees results. Indeed, this is a tremendous motivator to continue practicing taekwondo, and before one knows it, they have altered their life to find a way to fit taekwondo into it.

With all the hand and foot techniques that are taught and practiced in taekwondo, one can easily begin to excel at even the most basic techniques, thereby motivating the student even MORE to stay with it.

Clearly, there are countless health benefits to this particular martial art, but there is a confidence and mental toughness that easily comes with taekwondo in that what is being learned and practiced is practical. Blocks are aggressive, kicks and punches are accurate, and the abilty to perfect both forms and board-breaking only adds to the overall enjoyment of taekwondo.

Increased heart rate and increased muscle tone and muscle mass, as well as the aforementioned increase in confidence and stamina is more than enough to begin, practice, and perfect the martial art of taekwondo.

I am a black belt in taekwondo, but only after sampling many other martial arts forms, finally settling on taekwondo…

How About Starting Your Own Air Courier Service?

Have you always dreamed of owning your own business, having the time and money to visit exotic locations and being able to fly first class? How about starting your own air courier service?

If you love traveling, live in or near a city with a large national or international airport, and you have the kind of lifestyle that lets you pick up and go on a moment’s notice, then you might want to think about starting your own business as an “air courier”.

What is an air courier? It’s a person who is hired to transport a specific item from one destination to another, within a specified deadline.

And, before you start imagining sinister men in trench coats carrying guns with silencers, and beautiful foreign women transporting secret microchips, let me reassure you that traveling as an air courier is 100% legal and aboveboard!

What you are asked to transport varies tremendously — it can be almost anything — legal documents such as letters or business contracts, children going from one country to another, medicine that was forgotten during a vacation, reports, computer disks, product prototypes — the list is endless.

In fact, because of the “instant gratification” mindset today where we are used to information and communication that travels faster than the speed of light, air courier companies have seen their businesses grow tremendously over the last ten years. What that means for you is increased opportunities for free travel.

Who can start their own air courier service? Anyone who is over 18, holds a valid passport and who is in good health. It also helps if you’re flexible and can pick up and travel on very short notice.

Why is this a wonderful opportunity?

When sending a package by air, the shipper has two options — the first is to send the package as “cargo.” Cargo travels alone (especially since the tragedy of 9/11), is shipped in bulk in large containers that usually aren’t sent until the container is full, in order to maximize revenues for the airlines.

In addition, especially when cargo is sent overseas, there are sometimes long delays getting the package through customs, there are endless regulations that must be followed, inspections that must be passed, etc.

For the air courier companies, who have to make sure the package is not only delivered, but reaches the intended recipient as quickly as possible, these delays are unthinkable. (If they don’t make their deadlines, then their competitors will. Think of the slogan from one such company…”when it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight…”)

On the other hand, if the same item is considered “personal baggage” and is carried with a ticketed passenger, it arrives with the passenger, and generally passes through customs quickly, without all the delays.

Plus, a person can book a ticket for a specific flight arriving at their destination at a specific time — not so for cargo. Which means that a shipment that could take days or weeks if it’s classified as cargo, can take hours instead because it’s classified as baggage.

Because very few of the air courier companies have the resources to employ full-time couriers, the industry itself has come to rely on freelance air couriers, which, even when having to pay someone to travel, and covering the cost of their airfare, is still a better ROI when compared against the paying full-time wages, holiday and sick pay, insurance and all of the other costs involved with having employees.

This is where you come in.

As an air courier, you are providing a valuable service in a growing market. And from the traveler’s point of view, you might find yourself flying to Paris one day, and Hong Kong a week later!

Once you’ve been hired, the process is pretty simple: the company contacts you, to check your availability. When you confirm, they book the flight and let you know when to be at the airport. You’re met at the airport by a representative, who gives you your ticket, a list of item or items you’re transporting, and your baggage claim tickets. They’ll usually even have checked you in, saving you many hassles. You get to sit in first class, and enjoy the flight. That’s it. You don’t have to contact the recipient in the city you’re flying to, actually pick up the package on your way to the airport, or do anything other than be responsible for it going from one airport to another.

At your destination, you’ll be met by another company representative, who will take the baggage claim tickets, and give you your return ticket.

How long do you get to stay? That depends on you and the air courier company. Sometimes your schedule will be tight — you may only get hours between flights. Other times, you’ll have a day or two. Obviously, as your reputation increases and the companies you work for know that they can rely on you, you have more room for negotiating.

There are several ways to get started. There are actually companies who recruit air couriers, and the fees for joining are usually nominal. The benefits of going through a certified company can be many. For example, they often provide information that it could take you a long time to figure out on your own. They also offer forums, newsletters and other resources to help you succeed. Because they have built a reputation, you might find it easier to get started in the business by working for one of them at first.

But, you can also find the information completely on your own, and start off freelancing. Look in the yellow pages for air couriers that are located near your local airport. Figure out where you’d like to travel to, and make a list of the locations they serve. Because there are companies who transport items both internationally or just within the states, where you travel is largely going to be a matter of personal choice.

Also, make sure that you investigate each company before applying with them. You want to make sure that they are a solid business, with a good reputation. Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, get on the phone, and find out what their application process is. Many companies today prefer that you apply online. Whatever the process is, make sure that you provide them with all the information they request.

Timely tip: After submitting your application, follow up with a thank-you letter, on your new “company” letterhead. Remind them of your availability, that you can accept short or no notice flights. Find a way to position yourself above that of the other couriers.

Once you’ve gone through the process the first time, you’ll have a much better idea about which other companies you want to apply to and how to hone your interview skills. (So don’t make your first application with the biggest company that you want to work for the most.) Obviously, if you limit yourself to one or two companies, you’ll also be limiting the amount of work you’ll get and the locations you can travel to.

Timely Tip: Put together a database of the companies you’ve applied to, the date you applied, and contact information. Follow up with the company regularly, but don’t be a pest.

Once you’ve been hired, don’t be surprised if you start getting calls within the first couple of weeks. There is a growing need for professional, responsible air couriers.

Here are some things to keep in mind when you start working:

1. Be professional. Remember that while shorts and flip flops may be comfortable for vacationers, you’re working and representing the air courier company.

2. Often the only baggage you get to take with you is hand carried. Invest in microfiber clothing in basic colors, and learn to pack essentials only. If you do get to stay for longer than a few days, you can always pick up some essentials once you’re there.

3. Give your own business card to the company representative in the country you travel to, and make sure that your email and voice mail information is included.

4. Apply to all the companies you’ve decided you want to work for, and then follow up with the ones that haven’t contacted you regularly — perhaps a polite letter or even a one-page newsletter that lists the latest on industry related news.

5. Stay organized. Don’t over commit yourself, and try never to have to cancel a trip.

Starting your own air courier service is a great way to make money and see the world.

Saying Goodbye To My Beautiful Buddy

A couple of years ago I lost my dearest friend in this world. Buddy, my beautiful German Shepherd, my incredible, faithful companion went on to the Rainbow Bridge to wait for me. He unselfishly gave me eight fun-filled years brimming with love and loyalty. He taught me lessons in patience and acceptance that I will carry with me for a lifetime. Now, a lifetime remains, to be spent without him. I wonder if the day will come that my eyes won’t fill with tears at the mention of his name, or that my heart won’t have the empty ache for the memories he has left behind. I look for him everyday, expecting him to be laying in his favorite spot, bathing in the sunshine. But, he has gone to wait for me, to a much better place.

I had known for a long time that it was coming. When he first came to live with me, he was a prankster, filled with energy and exuberance. He loved going for rides, howling the entire way to whatever destination. We loved going for long summer walks, and playing tag was his favorite… even though he always “it.”

As the joyous years with him crept by, I watched his coal-black muzzle fill in gradually with speckles of gray. Time firmed it’s grip on his once flexible body, slowing it down bit by bit. A murky blue veil began to dull his sparkling, brown eyes. Arthritis slowly set it, then taking its toll on his movement. I knew our time together was drawing to a close, and I tried to prepare myself for the inevitable. But, in the end, the preparation didn’t matter. Nothing mattered, just that he was gone.

Being enveloped in the pet care profession, I dealt with my clients regularly who lose their beloved pets. The pain and anguish is like nothing else, and unfortunately, many people feel as though they have no one to turn to. Many think that no one will understand. After all, it was just a dog, right? But these creatures play such a pivotal role in our lives. They define loyalty, to a degree unlike any other relationship. They do not judge; they love us simply for existing. And often times, we spend more time with our pets than we do with our spouses. Then, they are gone, out of our lives. The empty spot left by their absence is unbearable, at best.

The simple truth is that they just do not live as long as we do. Their life spans are much shorter, perhaps because they live life with no limits: infinite tail-wagging, boundless energy, and limitless love. We owe it to them to provide the very best life possible while here with us on this Earth.

Unfortunately, often times we are faced with the decision to help ease their pain and assist their transition into a better, pain-free place. This is a guilt-ridden decision right from the start. Those of us who adore our pets spend their entire lives providing them with the best: nutritional food and fresh water, lots of attention and love, conscientious medical treatment, toys and blankies and bones, and the list goes on. Why, then, is it often times our decision that their life must end?

If you step back and look at the big picture, we owe it to them to do what is best for them, no matter what. That is our commitment, our thanks to them for their faithfulness. Their entire lives they look to us for all of their needs, so naturally in the end they look to us once again to do the right thing; to do the right thing in their best interests, not in ours. It is a heart-wrenching decision, but it truly sets them free. After all, we promised to always take care of them. It is the last gift of love and respect that you can give back to them.

After Buddy’s death, I founded the Precious Memories Pet Loss Support Group to help people in my community deal with the grief process of losing a pet. We met as needed, to help those who need it through the transition and pain. The grief process is the same as losing a loved one, but it is truly difficult for many people to really communicate their sadness when it involves a pet. Those who have never owned a pet that was dear to them do not understand the depth of the sorrow we feel. The emptiness is unspeakable, and the loss almost unbearable. And of course, every pet owner, myself included, swears at that lowest moment to never again have another pet. Going through that process again is just simply not an option.

A close friend of mine asked me a poignant question during a tearful conversation after I lost Buddy. She asked me, if I had it to do over again, if I would take Buddy in again, and spend the wonderful times with him that I did, after now knowing how deep the pain of losing him would be. Was it worth it? Would I do it again? Without a single doubt.

I miss you, My Friend. Wait for me on the bridge.

What’s the Best Acne Medicine?

Have you found yourself in search of a safe and effective new acne medicine? With so many products on the market, it is tough to know which will be worth your time. You may find that the best acne medicine is natural rather than a prescription or an over-the-counter treatment.

Acne is a condition that starts beneath the skin. When pores become clogged, the oil within is trapped below the surface where it breeds with bacteria to create an infection.

There are quite a few options when it comes to prevention and treatment of breakouts. Clearasil and Oxy are the most commonly used over the counter medications, and are often the best acne medicine for mild to moderate cases. These topical applications contain benzoyl peroxide.

The Proactiv treatment, a fixture in late night infomercials, is a popular acne medicine consisting of a three part daily regime of a cleanser, toner, and lotion. It has been shown to heal and prevent breakouts. This product’s active ingredient is also benzoyl peroxide, which could cause some mild side effects.

Retin A is a topical prescription acne medicine for more severe breakouts that may improve the skin’s texture and appearance. Results are not immediate and once it takes effect, you must continue to use it in order for your skin to remain free from breakouts.

Accutane is a another prescription acne medicine that is not recommended for all types of acne. It is a last resort treatment for those whose skin has not cleared from using other products.

Some people find that the best acne medicine is a natural treatment regimen consisting of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and herbal extracts that can resolve the problem from the inside out, without the potential side effects of OTC treatments and prescription acne medicine.

There are a number of natural formulas on the market available in supplement form, with any combination of nutrients that can reduce acne blemishes, prevent future breakouts and restore a healthy balance to the skin.

In your search for the best acne medicine, compare the side effects of all treatments to their overall effectiveness and customer satisfaction rating. Prescription acne medicine is probably the most effective, but due to harsh ingredients they could cause major adverse reactions.

Talk to your dermatologist about natural acne medicine and see if the less harsh treatments will help clear up your skin.

David Bloom is an avid health enthusiast and a regular contributor to a variety of health websites. He is the author of Natural Acne Medicine, a blog dedicated to the treatment of acne, covering conventional and natural remedies for clearing up blemished skin.

Falling Into Debt Is Just So Tempting!

They were both just twenty-five, married for two years, and the financial noose of heavy debts was already closing in on them. They were over twenty thousand dollars in debt. This included angry creditors, harassing phone calls from collectors, and no one to bail them out.

“The truth is I saw it coming, and maybe I was even an accomplice,” says Janet Listman. The Listman’s live in one of Los Angeles’ more affordable outlying communities, popular with young couples. “A few weeks after our wedding, we were visiting with a family who had just made major renovations and purchased new furniture. My husband kept whispering. “Look at that plasma TV. We should get one like that,” or, “Look at that great living room set, I want it.” We were both in our twenties. I did babysitting and my husband worked for the US Postal Service. These people had been married nearly twenty years and he was a successful businessman. But somehow, we thought we could be like them.”

It started with expensive jewelry for our wedding anniversary and birthdays, the new SUV for our vacation trip, and the new glass enclosed living room wall unit and sectional sofa, all purchased on easy payment terms. Then the baby came, and it was “Only the best for our little princess.”

And the money?

“That was the easiest part,” Janet continues. “My husband quickly learned to manipulate credit cards and loans. The first $5000 worth of credit he acquired was so easy. It made him heady and thirsty for more. And I got such a lift every time I flashed my credit card. It made me feel so . . . grown up. I guess we didn’t really think about how we were going to pay it all back.”

Janet and Grey Listman relied on a halfhearted promise from a wealthy relative, who had hinted at the possibility of helping them out with the purchase of a new apartment. But when Grey approached him for help paying back his credit card debt, the relative’s wallet was closed. The parents on both sides were helpless; they were barely managing for themselves. As their credit line was stretched to the limit and no one seemed to be forthcoming to bail them out, desperation set in.

But Grey was one of the lucky ones. He realized the financial quicksand into which he was sinking. He contacted a debt consolidation service and produced a debt recovery plan for himself. Today Grey works a grueling fifteen hours a day at two jobs, one at the Post Office and another as a night manager in a pizza store.

In the United States debt has become a way of life. Benjamin Taylor, a debt management counselor, calls it a plague:

“A couple generations ago, you knew who was poor by the patches on his clothing. Today everyone dresses well, and people don’t want to be caught without the latest gadgets or trendy furniture. But they never learned how to live with debt. The code that “if you don’t have you don’t buy,” has become outdated. Let’s say a young person’s main income is a regular average salary, but instead of living frugally within his limits, he sees it as natural that he should manage with credit card debts. For him it’s not a bad thing because he probably sees other friends and family borrowing money as well. Perhaps at his age, the father has no debts and lived within his means, and this only happened when consumerism and fads recently settled in. But meanwhile, the son sees how easy it is to obtain credit, without thinking about the consequences.”

Benjamin Taylor is a consumer credit counselor at Click Debt Consolidation, a Los Angeles based agency established to get people out of debt and keep them debt free. He is convinced that, even with below average salaries, people can find ways to make ends meet without borrowing blindly.

Branding: Bring Back the Jingle!

Did you grow up in the ’70s and ’80s? If so, you probably have a slew of campy jingles from various TV commercials filed away in your brain. Today, advertisers still use jingles to help identify their brand, but not nearly as much as they did “back in the day.” Why is this?

Part of it is probably that in the digital age, there are so many more options. Companies spend money on electronic campaigns rather than television, because they know there’s a planet full of non-TV watching prospects that can be reached via the internet. Digital equipment makes video production super fast and easy, which means that if you’ve got an idea for something outlandish and wild that possibly involves a celebrity or special effects, it can be done fairly quickly. Musicians and celebrities are willing to sell the rights to their music or their image, to advertisers who want people to equate their brand with a popular song or celebrity icon. Many advertisers opt to make commercials that attract attention for bizarreness or shock value.

Even so: is a commercial that’s loaded with larger-than-life graphics, chilling special effects and famous celebrities going to make people remember your product? Is a commercial that’s off-beat and “artsy” a good choice as a brand builder? These days, there’s an awful lot of information to take in. Your commercial might be cutting-edge creative, but what does that matter if people are only half-paying attention anyway?

We retain information by developing associations. In recalling people and events, your brain links one idea to another and then connects the two. Music does this especially well. Is there a song that reminds you of your first love? Is there a “soundtrack” to your life that conjures up a steady stream of memories? Most people would answer yes. Which would explain why kitschy little songs from ’70s and ’80s television did such a nice job of burning all of those brands into our minds and keeping them there to this very day.

I used to write ad copy for Toys”R”Us. I remember when they decided to bring back their classic song, of course you know what it is! “I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a Toy”R”Us kid…” It was the perfect time to do this. The original Toys”R”Us kids were all grown up with new Toys”R”Us kids of their own… but the memory was still there, ready to be brought back to life. So the second time around, Toys”R”Us funked up their famous old jingle, hired a band to play the “rock ‘n roll rendition…” unveiled a “whistling only” version of the tune… and did it bring back the Toys”R”Us kid in all of us? You bet it did!

Even if some of them were annoying, the campy jingle lives on in our memories! Can you identify the tune that goes with each of these famous lines?

“Starburst fruit chews… a burst of refreshing fruit flavor for you…”

“A double pleasure’s waiting for you…”

“G.E…. we bring good things to life!”

“It’s a good time for the great taste of McDonalds!”

“Whatever it is I think I see… becomes a Tootsie Roll to me!”

“There’s a fragrance that’s here to stay, and they call it… Charlie…”

“Now, you see it. Now, you don’t! Here, you have it. Here you won’t…”

“You can roll a Rolo, to your friend… it’s chocolate covered caramel from end to end!”

As we progress further into the digital age, we must realize that sometimes a simple message is often the most effective one. That’s especially true for branding.

If you’re about to embark on a grand-scale advertising plan, consider hiring someone to write a short, catchy jingle that you can use in your television, radio, and even internet advertising. Make it a tune that’s sure to stick in the consumer’s mind. Just like the classic commercials you know and love, you’ll be remembered for generations to come.

You Can Gain Muscle Weight Even If You Are A Skinny Hard Gainer

Don’t Care If You’re A Hard Gainer, Skinny Or Just A Thin Ectomorph… You Can Gain Weight And Build Muscles!

We have always been obsessed with articles after articles on losing weight and losing fats leaving out one segment of people who want to gain weight on their thin and skinny body frame. In the bodybuilding and fitness industry, these folks are commonly referred to as the ” hard gainers “. If you are one of these people who are genetically thin and skinny but want to gain muscle weight and pack on solid muscular body frame, then this article is written especially with you in mind.

Amongst the many reasons why you are skinny and thin and having difficulty in gaining weight is probably due to your genes. Your built-in calorie burning furnaces metabolize calories much too fast and too efficiently. Many of your obese counterparts will part with their last dollar to have a genetic predisposition like as yours. If your parents and siblings are naturally skinny and thin with small body frames, then you will most likely have the same small body type. You are then what is commonly called the ” Ectomorphs “.

Although the words ectomorph and hardgainer are commonly used interchangeably, there is a distinct difference which many people do not realize. An ectomorph is someone who is genetically thin and skinny. A hard gainer is someone who finds it difficult to gain muscle mass. A hardgainer need not be an ectomorph but is commonly assumed to be one.

You may have been training very hard to pack on muscles. You may have experimented with many bodybuilding and weightlifting exercises. Some of the exercises may have worked for you but most don’t. You are so fed up that you may have accepted that your thin and skinny frame is going to be with you forever and that you cannot do anything about it. Don’t blame it on your genes so quickly because you can certainly gain muscle weight and pack solid muscles on your frame. Thousands and perhaps millions like you have succeeded and so can you. I know this for a fact because some of them are my happy clients.

I have to concede that it is more difficult for you to gain muscle weight relative to another who have average metabolism but if there is a will, there is a way.

Build Muscle Gain Weight Science

Firstly, you must know the science of building muscles and how your metabolism works. As they say, knowledge is power. If you do not know what was wrong, how then can you fix it? You either have to read up extensively on these subjects and labor your way through trial and error (which may also be very frustrating and time wasting affair) or engage a professional personal trainer with successful track record on helping skinny and thin people to gain muscle weight and mass.

Write Down Your Goals and Objectives

You don’t want to grope your way through something as important as your health and physical appearance do you? How do you determine what to do, how to do and when to do to get to the body shape that you want without written down goals? For example, if you are in a dark room, how long would you take reach for the exit door when compared with a room that is fully lighted up? It is thus imperative that you must have a tool to measure your progress and check yourself when you are doing things wrong. Otherwise you will be without focus will be directionless which will get you nowhere. Having a specific program to follow allows you to take specific action each day. You need an organized plan to eat and exercise correctly until you have achieved what you wanted, to pack on muscles and gain muscle weight.

Do not change your plan mid way because you have just heard that someone has a better program. It maybe true or it may be false and most likely it is the latter because fundamentals are fundamentals and the fundamentals are what you will learn in this fitness tips article. Do you want to take the risk of having your goals derailed by something that is new and not proven?

Dare To Dream

Dare to dream. Visualize where you will be and how you will look like if you follow your written plan in 3 months time and six months time. Man walked on the moon because they dare to dream and then execute the plan to make the dream come true. Martin Luther King changed America the day he proclaimed, “I Have A Dream!” didn’t he?

Once you have begun your plan, you must have faith and believe in what you are doing. Stays focused and avoid critical or negative people. These people are called “dream snatchers”. They snatch away your dreams of becoming a hunk and want you to remain where you are. Thin and skinny. Stay away from people who say that you can’t do it, you can’t change what is fated or it’s in your genes and you can do nothing about it. They will be correct if you listened to them because you won’t be doing anything then. By listening to them, you will prove them right. Instead, take those negative comments as a challenge to you. When you succeeded in gaining your muscle mass and gain weight, show your fabulous new body to them and watch them gawk in amazement at your determination and your fit and healthy body . You will gain tremendous respect and self confidence.

Show me a naysayer and I will show you a loser. A winner never quit, a quitter never win!

Avoid Overtraining

One reason why hard gainers or ectomorphs failed in building muscles and gaining lean muscle mass is that because they train too hard, thinking that training for long hours and frequently will get them the results. Over training not only impedes your progress, it may actually make your muscle shrink. Also avoid too much cardio exercises. You already naturally possess a highly efficient fat burning machine. Too much cardio exercises not only burn fats, it burn muscles too. So have enough cardio exercises just to improve and maintain your cardio vascular fitness and no more.

You need not train everyday and need not stay too long in the gym. 45 minutes and you are out because if your training is intensive enough, the longer you train, the more muscle eating hormones will be produced. You do not want to lose those hard earned muscles, do you?

Remember that in the sport of bodybuilding and weightlifting, more is not always better.

Do Compound Exercises

Compound exercises stimulate the most many muscle fibers because in a compound movement, many muscles are being utilized. For those needing to gain weight and muscle mass, this is terrific because these lifts put your body under heavy stress. This is the stress that will shock your nervous system and causing a surge of muscle building hormones. This results in increased muscle gain all over your body. Yes, muscle gain for your entire frame for overall musculature growth not just the muscles being exercised.

Add dead lifts, Squats, Chin ups, Dips, Military Press and Bench Press into your routine and watch your muscles explode in strength, power and size!

Use Free Weights Instead Machines

Free weights utilize many more muscles for balance and support than machine exercises. That means that you will have a more complete overall workout and build more muscles in more places. Skip those sophisticated machines and train heavy on dumbbells and barbells.

Progressive Overload

To build mass, you must lift heavier and heavier weights to force you muscles to grow. If you do not stress your muscles enough, why should they grow? As an indicator, if you can lift a particular weight in good form for more than 8 reps, then the weight that you are lifting is too light for you. By the same token, if you can’t lift the weight more than 4 reps, then the weight that you are lifting is too heavy. Never sacrifice form and technique so that you can lift heavier. Doing that is just putting yourself at risk of injuries and poor muscle development.

Eat and then Eat and Eat Again

Lucky you. Because of your high burn fat rate, you have more liberty over food because you have wider choices of food.

To build mass, you must consume more calories than you expand. So do not be afraid to eat. But do bear in mind that not all calories are the same. Eat primarily the good calories. Calories you get from your soft drinks and pastries are fattening ones and do almost nothing for your muscle growth. Eat calories laden with proteins. Given your high metabolism, treat yourself to a burger, pasta, pizzas and the likes now and then. You have the luxury to indulge in these starchy and calorie rich food where many people will have to do their utmost to avoid them. However, do not overdo it. When your consumption of calories is more than your expenditure, your body will have no choice but to grow.

Eat frequently. Eat up to 6- 8 small meals a day if you can. Drink plenty of water. Soft drinks and coffee don’t count.

Use Nutritional Supplements

Many people think that by popping some pills or drinking some shake, they will get results fast. That is not true as supplements are not some magical formula. Too many people think that just because you buy the latest product, it is a forgone conclusion that you will automatically begin to pack on the pounds. The truth is that supplements are only there to enhance an already solid diet and workout program.

If you do not have time to eat so many meals a day, try getting some meal replacement bars. Essential supplements to help you gain mass are phosphagen, creatine, glutamine, desiccated liver and protein powders. Never never succumb to the temptation of taking anabolic steroids. The harmful effects far out weigh any temporary muscle gains that it may provide. Also take multi-vitamins and anti-oxidants. These not only provide you with more nutrients but also help mop up free radicals for building immunity which can be compromised by intense exercises such as weight lifting.

Conclusion

Yes! It is possible for you to gain mass and weight. But the battle will not be easy. You have to stick to the above rules, have the burning desire and motivation to stick to your plan. You must be mentally very strong as you are fighting a battle against what your body which is genetically programmed to do the opposite. However, with sheer grit and determination, the pot of gold when you come to at the other end of the rainbow will definitely be worth the journey of climbing to the rainbow to get to that end. However tough that journey may be to you, dare to dream and rach for the stars.

Educational Toys That Stimulate Chidren’s Mind

When children start to walk more steadily, run, push, pull, climb and grab things - they are growing from infants to toddlers. Between their first and second birthdays, they are self centered and get busy doing various things like - to flip light switches, pour things in and out of containers, unwrap packages and empty drawers. The toddler stage is very important in a child’s life. It is the time between infancy and childhood when a child learns and grows in many ways. Everything that happens to the toddler is meaningful.

How do I know this?

I am a mother of two boys who I love dearly. I decided to stay home and raise my children with the best education and values I could provide. We made sacrifices and reorganized our lives for them. I learned the importance of educational toys as we saw our sons playing together with toys all around the house. This is when I realized the value of educational toys and started lulu-baby.com, to help other parents provide greater richness and diversity to their children. I truly believe that educational toys are the one option that can make every parent’s dreams true.

A toy which is worthy, gives colorful success in the end. Same goes to educational toys too. Each toy can have some educational benefits. Sometimes you may have to ask your self, “How can this toy be educational to my child?” The answer may be obvious, or you may have to dig a little to find a lesson or value with the toy. But, the rewards are worth it as you watch your children play with the toys in a meaningful way, and actually learn something in the process.

Here are some ideas to encourage your children to get more out of their fun time.

Baby Einstein

Infants and toddlers are apparently big fans of the Baby Einstein series, with titles like Baby Mozart, Baby Shakespeare, and Baby Van Gogh making regular rounds in their family’s DVD. I learned the importance of educational toys. The shine in my sons’ eyes while watching several of the Baby Einstein Videos taught me that I can provide happiness to the little one. “These videos have a lot of colors and shapes that hold his attention,” says another Mom. The complete line of Baby Einstein educational videos and DVDs stimulate the growing mind.

And what child doesn’t love the magic of puppets? Whether it’s a ferocious dragon, a wiggly octopus or a friendly dog. These lovely puppets offer terrific “hands-on” fun that is sure to ignite any child’s imagination. Playing with Baby Einstein Puppets with a parent or adult helps babies interact with others and aids in language development.

Little Tikes

These are for babies 6 to 36 months and are aimed at giving children experience. My older son enjoys climbing up and down the Castle Climber has been one of our best investments towards our children’s growing up.

Little Tikes offers a variety of play sets that help fuel their imagination. Little Tikes toys do not entertain children the way so many toys and products do. They allow a child’s imagination to run free and expand. There are not a lot of bells and whistles, but children do not need that all the time. They get sensory overload. Little Tikes produces toys that not only allow children to educate themselves, the toys encourage imagination and education.

Little Tikes makes shape sorters, infant sensory stimulation toys, outdoor toys that promote large motor skill development, and even furniture for a nursery, toddler or preschooler’s bedroom or playroom.

Already the leader in plastic furniture for children, Little Tikes is building on its established reputation for safety and durability by launching its first line of wooden furniture - natural interiors. So the furniture looks great “as is” or decorated with paint to match a child’s personality. The light wood furniture -including a table, chair, desk, easel, toy box and storage center- is perfectly scaled for kids and designed so that its looks at home in any interior or room of the house.

Mesothelioma - Cancer that Strikes 40 Years Later

Filed under:Hall Of Medical Resources — posted on @ 7:22 am

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer in which malignant (cancerous) cells are found in the mesothelium, a protective sac that covers most of the body’s internal organs. Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles.

In his article called
Knee Deep in Asbestos
, freelance writer Phil Jones relates how when he was a teenager he worked for a brief time in an asbestos mine in the Yukon. One of the features of daily life
was the constant presence of asbestos dust in the air. As Jones writes,

There were employees that worked in the mill whose sole job was to sweep up the dust that fell on the floor. There was so much of it that this was a constant ongoing job. The asbestos dust in the mill actually fell almost like snow and covered the floor completely. Without sweepers there would probably have been several
inches of asbestos dust on the floor within an hour or so. In fact, I remember seeing sweepers go by pushing their wide brooms and the new dust settling onto the floor behind them as they walked.

This story illustrates a number of the more sinister aspects of the whole mesothelioma story.

First, over the course of many decades, countless workers were placed in work environments where they were exposed to high levels of asbestos fibre with little protection. Their exposure to asbestos fibres was constant and often took place over a very long period of time - in most cases, over many years.

Second, the owners and managers of these work places were often either unaware of the risk of mesothelioma, or they actively attempted to hide or cover up those risks.

Third, since the effects of exposure to asbestos fibre often do not become apparent for 30 or 40 years after prolonged exposure, there often appeared to be no immediate health risk in these work environments. This made it very difficult
for workers or their representatives to make a convincing case that worker health was being sacrificed on the altar of corporate profit.

Increase Business by Providing Free Spanish Translation Online

Filed under:Life Of Language — posted on @ 7:09 am

Freelance translators make money obviously by selling their translation services for payment. However, one of the problems translators often face is how to continually find clients for their services.

Well, believe it or not, one of the ways you can increase your business as a freelance Spanish translator is to provide free Spanish translation online.

“What!”, you say. “If I offer free Spanish translation online, I won’t get paid and I won’t eat! How will that increase my business?” Well, at first, this seems counterintuitive. Providing free services costs you money as well as time that can be spent doing work that will bring in money for your wallet.

Well, let me take some time here to explain how taking some time out of your schedule doing paid translation work to provide free Spanish translation online can not only increase your business, but help you feel like your giving something back to the community.

First of all, freelance translators usually go through periods of “feast or famine” meaning that they don’t always have work. They might get a few jobs or a big job, finish it, and then have to wait a few days or weeks before another job comes in. Well, during this time, one of the things you can do as a translator is provide free Spanish translations online. By this I mean that there are a lot of organizations that do really great work and are often in need of translators to help them get their messages out to those who don’t speak English. These non-profit organizations, however, don’t often have the budget for this, so by providing your time and talents to help them out, you will be doing a great service.

So how can this help you increase business? Well, one of the best ways to get more business is word-of-mouth. By providing quality free Spanish translations to well-deserving organizations during your down time, you will advertise your business. While the person you translate for might not be a paying customer this time, if they are impressed with your work and your willingness to help them out, they will most likely tell others and pass your name around, which could very well lead to more paying work for you.

Another way you can help your business by providing free Spanish translation online is to ask for something such as a reciprocal link to your website from the non-profit organization’s website.

Giving back will not only help you feel good, but can also improve your business.
