* www.bankrate.com

Mortgage Calculators
Online mortgage calculators can give you an approximate monthly payment for particular loan amounts. Just keep in mind that these estimates don’t account for closing costs and other variables. * www.money.cnn.com/tools
* www.mortgage101.com/calculators
* www.homebuyinginstitute.com/calculators.html

Finding a Home Inspector
Consider the amount of money you’ll pay for a home, and the cost of a home inspection will be miniscule by comparison. But the peace of mind that comes from a thorough inspection is priceless. Here are some websites to help you find a certified home inspector:

* www.homeinspection.com
* www.ashi.org (American Society of Home Inspectors)
* www.nahi.org (National Association of Home Inspectors)

Tattoo Pictures & Tattoo Designs for YOU!

Anyone who is seriously into tattoos will tell you how long it takes to choose the right one. After all they should last a lifetime so are not something to be rushed. It can take up to 20-30 hours to find the right tattoo design. But that is only the first step.

If you are serious you will want to have something that is unique and not taken from a book or or copied from a picture in a tattoo gallery. A tattoo should speak about who you are and not be ripped off someone else. Not only that but a lot of artists will refuse to copy another artists work. And quite rightly. While you can be done for copyright infringement for copying another person’s work in other mediums the same rules don’t seem to apply to tattoo art.

It is still a form of plagiarism to take another persons artwork and reproduce it as your own. In any other form this would result in legal action. So just because there is no precendent set for copyright infringement does not mean its is cool to claim another tattooists work.

So how do you come up with original tattoo designs?

If you are like me you have looked at literally thousands of tattoo pictures and tattoo designs from a variety of different tattooists from around the world. Or maybe you keep visiting your local tattoo studio and have started getting dirty looks from the tattoo artist who thinks you are stalking him because you go there every weekend and still haven’t chosen a tattoo!

There are so many different styles of so you need to be really clear about what you want before you get inked. It is a good idea ot visualize the type of tattoo you want before you even get it. You need to be able to see yourself with a particular tattoo before you get it. If is a tribal tattoo on your arm imagine yourself walking down the street with the tattoo for all the world to see.

Next view some examples of different styles that you like. So if it is tribal tattoos source pictures of that particular tattoo style. If it is work from another artist do not take it to your nearest tattoo studio and ask for it to be copied onto you. Tell the tattoo artist that you like that particular style and would like a tattoo designed for YOU. This is where the visualisation exercise comes into play. Tattoo artists are very visual people and are highly talented at rendering an nebulous idea into a full on customized tattoo.

Think of the bigger picture. Don’t be tempted to choose some generic tattoo flash off the wall because you can’t make up your mind. Don’t settle for something less if you cannot afford the tattoo you really want. Tattoos are organic and are constantly changing and growing with you. Avoid painful mistakes!

VoIP - More Basic than a Basic How To

Have you not even heard the expression VoIP or Voice over internet protocol. It provides the ability to make phone calls over the internet at very low cost or even free. But what is it all about and how do you use it?

VoIP has several different ways in which it can be utilized. The first method is known as a softphone which basically means you download some software from a provider like Skype or VoipStunt, connect up a headset, set up the account and away you go. In other articles I have written I have provided comparisons of several providers including Skype, VoipStunt and Vonage.

The second method of making phone calls over the internet is by having an account with a VoIP provider such as Vonage or Skype (or Engin in Australia) and utilizing a piece of hardware known as an ATA or Analog Telephone Adaptor. This connects to your internet connection through an Ethernet connection to your ADSL or cable modem and allows connection of a standard telephone being normal, cordless or DECT. Often you can also connect a fax.

Methods of Operation
There are varying methods of operation. You may only wish to make outgoing calls through VoIP which means you will not need a ‘normal’ type phone number. If you wish to receive incoming calls from landline telephones, ie the caller isn’t calling over the internet using VoIP, you will need to have that service ability with your provider and a number to go with it.

It is possible that you can retain your fixed line and have both VoIP and normal PSTN to the ATA which will mean both will ring at the same time. Additionally if there is a blackout or power failure you can still connect to the PSTN.

You will need to review your providers conditions to work out costs of calling outside of the VoIP network. In many cases this can still be free or very low cost indeed, including overseas calls. Often there is a flat rate for local and long distance calls but again this varies from Voip provider to provider. As mentioned earlier, previous articles I have written compare some of the services offered by the larger VoIP players.

There is an issue to consider around emergency calls. Skype and VoipStunt openly include in their terms and conditions that they do not provide access to emergency services calls. For this reason they are realistically utilized as a second phone service. However certainly in Australia, Engin provide access to emergency services through the triple zero 000 emergency number. Many people now have mobile phones so access to emergency services is much more available anyway.

Equipment
From earlier in the article you can see that equipment needed and relevant costs can vary from a headset, to an ATA or analog telephone adaptor. These are not overly expensive and often available for free or cheap when joining a VoIP provider. A google search or visit to eBay will provide ability to get updated on current costs however it does not cost a fortune to commence accessing cheap or free phone calls.

Summary
This article has looks at the absolute basics of VoIP and how to get started. Further articles, information about VoIP products can be accessed by reading previous articles I have written.

Recording Satellite TV with DVRs - Don’t Miss Your Favorite Shows

Recording your favorite television shows from your Dish Network or DirecTV Satellite TV or Cable service, then watching them when it is convenient for you, was the promise of VCRs. However, that promise was never truly fulfilled. Few of us, including myself, could ever set the clock on a typical VCR, or figure out the programming routine to have the VCR “wake up” and record the correct channel at the chosen hour. One time, I actually dug out the instruction manual and tried to set my VCR to record the last episode of Seinfeld while I was away. Inevitably, I forgot to put a blank tape in the machine and ended up with nothing to show for my efforts. I, for one, believe that most Video Cassette Recorders spent their entire existence only playing prerecorded tapes and flashing 12:00 from their front panel.

Thankfully, Digital technology has made it possible to realize the original promise of VCRs. Now, with the addition of a Digital Video Recorder, or DVR, and an Interactive Program Guide to your Dish Network or DirecTV Satellite TV Receiver or Cable Box, everyday recording of favorite programs is within the reach of even the most technologically challenged among us.

The DVR system is simple and intuitive. You find programs for recording by scrolling through an on-screen guide which displays channels and times in a familiar grid format. Then you select the show you want to record with a single button on your remote. That’s all! You never have to set a clock or timer. You never have to remember to put a blank tape in the machine. All your recorded shows are stored (up to the capacity of the hard disc) and viewed as a list at one touch of a button.

Digital Video Recorders make recording and playback so easy that there is little reason to watch shows when they broadcast. You can watch shows whenever it is convenient for you, and you escape the tyranny of the broadcast schedule. If you choose to sit down and watch a program when it is broadcast, which is most appropriate for news and weather, major sporting events and political debates, then great. But, if you are like most people who have a busy schedule and would rather watch TV when it is more convenient for them, then a DVR is perfect for you.

Even beyond the remarkable ease with which you can record and playback programs on a DVR, the coolest element of this technology is the ability to pause the live feed of a broadcast while the hard disc continues to record in the background. You can take a snack break, answer the phone, check your email, then get back to whatever you were watching without missing a second of the show. This feature in particular civilizes the TV viewing experience and eliminates the need to jump up and rush back during commercials. And speaking of commercials… with a DVR it is deviously easy to skip through all the ads you’d really rather not watch. Just pause for a few minutes when an ad starts, and then use the convenient skip ahead button to jump to the other side of the commercial break. If you decide for some reason that you actually wanted to watch that advertisement, then you can skip back just as quickly as you jump ahead. In addition, you can rewind, watch the beginning of a show again for the benefit of those who just arrived. Or, rewind and watch that last play of the “Game” in slow motion, even frame by frame. No more guessing about those bad line calls or questionable fouls and penalties.

Cable companies use various brands of DVR hardware, quite often from Scientific Atlanta. Dish Network has developed a version they call the Dish Player DVR System. DirecTV uses TiVo (TiVo is the brand name for a proprietary DVR system). In future articles, I will examine the pros and cons of the competing DVR systems.

If all this DVR technology sounds confusing and difficult to use, believe me, it is not. Even though the technology is sophisticated, Digital Video Recorders are so easy to use that the original promise of VCRs is finally realized and you will never miss another favorite program again.

Music, Intelligence, and YOU

“The musician is constantly adjusting decisions on tempo, tone,
style, rhythm, phrasing, and feeling–training the brain to
become incredibly good at organizing and conducting numerous
activities at once. Dedicated practice of this orchestration can
have a great payoff for lifelong attentional skills,
intelligence, and an ability for self-knowledge and expression.”
- Ratey John J., MD. A User’s Guide to the Brain. New York:
Pantheon Books, 2001.

So many parents wish they’d gotten their child into music
sooner. But it is better to start late than not at all. Many
children grow up and are disappointed they never started
learning a musical instrument. But the time to start is now!

Music can benefit young and old alike. Studies have linked
significantly improved math skills with those children who have
learned to play an instrument. An ability like that can lead to
more self confidence and a strong sense of accomplishment. It
can give a child, or adult, something extra. The training can
help develop skills not only in music, but also in life. Those
who have learned to play can even help others through their
music. There is a definite relationship between music and
healing. Music can also bring joy into a room!

“Studying music encourages self-discipline and diligence, traits
that carry over into intellectual pursuits and that lead to
effective study and work habits. An association of music and
math has, in fact, long been noted. Creating and performing
music promotes self-expression and provides self-gratification
while giving pleasure to others. In medicine, increasing
published reports demonstrate that music has a healing effect on
patients. For all these reasons, it deserves strong support in
our educational system, along with the other arts, the sciences,
and athletics.” - Michael E. DeBakey, M.D., Leading Heart
Surgeon, Baylor College of Music.

Often children need to be strongly encouraged to continue
playing. I mean, a half an hour a day to practice can take a lot
of discipline. However, if you keep encouraging them, they
should stick at it and they WILL thank you in the long run. The
trick is to show your son or daughter the options for musical
instruments to make sure they pick the one they like. If all
your child listens to is rock for example, they might
automatically want to play the drums or the electric guitar. But
there is so much more to music than pop culture. Get some
classical CD’s, from guitar to piano to flute. Look into jazz
music and maybe the saxophone. There is everything from world
music to big band to opera out there and if you can expose your
child, and yourself for that matter, to the different types of
music, you can really expand your cultural horizons. Listening
to the music first can really help to inspire and it can give
you the motivation to keep practicing. Just remember, they did
not get that good overnight!

If your child has their heart set on an instrument, let them
play it. If you make your child play what you want your child to
play, they could lose interest fast and it would be hard to get
them to keep practicing. Hey. It’s never too late to start. You
should try playing it if you like it. It will take dedication,
but the benefits of music are incredible.

It will be great if you and your child can explore music
together. You can encourage each other and watch as your self
confidence grows. Remember. There is no instant gratification
here. Your real confidence comes after practicing for at least
two years. Preferably you should aim to practice for half an
hour a day, 6 or 7 times a week. Of course, that’s just a
guideline. The more you practice, the better you will become.
Try to set a goal that works for you and make sure you stick to
it. If you miss a day, don’t say, “That’s it, I can’t do it
anymore.” Remember the long term. Missing a day will not kill
you. Missing day after day after day will. If you miss one day,
that should be all the MORE reason to play the next. I know, it
sounds like common sense, but it’s hard. Make sure you encourage
your child to stick at it and praise them constantly in their
progress. In the end, the hard work pays off!

In an analysis of U.S. Department of Education data on more than
25,000 secondary school students (NELS:88, National Education
Longitudinal Survey), researchers found that students who report
consistent high levels of involvement in instrumental music over
the middle and high school years show “significantly higher
levels of mathematics proficiency by grade 12.” This observation
holds regardless of students’ socio-economic status, and
differences in those who are involved with instrumental music
vs. those who are not is more significant over time. -
Catterall, James S., Richard Chapleau, and John Iwanaga.
“Involvement in the Arts and Human Development: General
Involvement and Intensive Involvement in Music and Theater
Arts.” Los Angeles, CA: The Imagination Project at UCLA Graduate
School of Education and Information Studies, 1999.

A research team exploring the link between music and
intelligence reported that music training is far superior to
computer instruction in dramatically enhancing children’s
abstract reasoning skills, the skills necessary for learning
math and science. — Shaw, Rauscher, Levine, Wright, Dennis and
Newcomb, “Music training causes long-term enhancement of
preschool children’s spatial-temporal reasoning,” Neurological
Research, Vol. 19, February 1997

Those are two great quotes to really think about. Your child
can improve their math skills and reasoning skills simply by
learning to play an instrument. They can also bring
encouragement through their music and have an extra boost of
self confidence in knowing they had the discipline to learn the
instrument. All those benefits are on top of just actually
knowing how to play an instrument! And if you want to give it a
try, learning an instrument can improve your skills as well!

How to Download Your Old Computer to the Highest Bidder

When you think trash, you surely don’t think about your old, trusty personal computer. But that’s exactly what will become of it when you make the inevitable move toward your next laptop or desktop. And, yes, buying a new computer is inevitable, considering the pace at which computer technology zips along. Just think—about a handful of years ago, a fast microprocessor for a laptop was at 233 MHz. Now you’re looking at about at least 2 GHz! That’s Giga, with a G.

So eventually, you will want a computer that can handle the latest software, the latest games, and the latest interactive Web sites, and then you’ll have to throw away your old computer, right? Wrong. Try selling your used computer instead. Throwing out your computer is one of the worst things you can do. For one, your computer may be useful for someone out there, even if just for scraps.

Trashed computers and other digital equipment also make up one of the fastest growing, and most dangerous, new trash “categories” out there in your neighborhood landfall. On one hand, computers are generally bulky and made of plastic and other materials that won’t be breaking down in a landfill for the next few million years. What’s more, other materials in your old computer are highly toxic to the environment, like mercury, lead and cadmium. They’re so toxic that their actually name in the waste-management field is “toxics.”

You don’t have to be a techie or a scientist to understand the danger in that—nor the benefits of selling your computer. On the Internet, there are a vast number of auction and classifieds sites, some better than others, where you can “download” you computer to a worthy buyer.

Before you boot up your replacement laptop or high-performance PC, however, be sure you read and compute the following tips. These tips will help you avoid the crashes and shutdowns that befall the computer seller who doesn’t do his homework first.

Hold onto all of the operating system and software manuals that came with your old computer. This will add value to your sale, not to mention it will make you a trusted seller for offering up these helpful books to the buyer.

Erase all personal information from the hard drive. And we’re not just talking about simply putting stuff in the “trash bin.” It’s extremely important to purge all data from your computer’s memory repository, even from invisible backup files on the hard drive. If you’re not sure how to do this, ask your IT expert at work or a techie friend for advice. You don’t want the next user to have access to your bank accounts, old e-mails, and other private info, do you?

Uninstall any application from the hard drive that you’d like to use on your next computer, keeping the installation disk and the software serial number for yourself. When it comes to software, the manufacturers made sure that you never really own software, you license it. So you don’t get free reign to keep software on multiple computers. You only get one license, so you need to bring your licensed version with you to your new computer.

Do your homework on your computer’s worth. Just like you would for a car, check around at other classifieds and auction sites to see what other people are selling your make and model for.

Be sure you want to truly get rid of old faithful. You may be able to repair your old laptop rather than buy a new $2,000 Centrino model. Or you may be able to add RAM memory and a new hard drive to your four-year-old desktop rather than invest in a new $3,000 multimedia masterpiece. In other words, do a thorough cost-analysis of what it would take to rebuild your old computer, versus what it would cost to sell it and buy a new one. And check your heart too. You might be surprised just how attached you are to your old faithful.

Once you go through these steps, you are prepared to make your move and sell, sell, sell. And then, of course, you’ll be ready to start on a whole new list of steps—for buying a new computer. But that’s a topic for another article!

Plants For Establishing a Hedge in Horsham Township Pa.

Filed under:A Life Of Leisure — posted on @ 7:53 am

This article is designed to help Horsham Township Pa. residents
select plants and shrubs for hedges. Not all plants that are
suitable are listed here but most common and easy to raise ones
are listed.

Hedges are one of the major components of your landscape.
Hedges define the limits of your landscape and thus should be
the starting point in your landscape design. Before selecting
plants, you should carefully consider their landscape
requirements and the characteristics of the plants. For example,
deciduous plants drop their leaves in the fall and are effective
screens mainly during the growing season. Evergreens provide
good screening all year. Gardeners considering a sheared, formal
hedge should realize that they may need to be pruned (sheared)
several times a year to remain attractive. In comparison, an
informal, natural hedge is relatively low maintenance. Select
shrubs that grow to the desired height. Planting a tall-maturing
shrub where a short, informal hedge is desired creates work.
Many landscaping problems are prevented by selecting the correct
planting material.

Our plants are well suited for many hedge plantings. We sell
many types of plants and shrubs which can work well as a natural
privacy boarder. Bare-root material is the most economical type
of nursery stock when planting a hedge. However, bare-root
plants are rather small. For the beginner, bare root is the
hardest type of plant to grow out. Container-grown and balled
and burlapped plants are larger, but are more expensive. You
will have better luck with potted and B&B stock…The added cost
will be worth it. Most B&B and potted stock can be planted
whenever the ground is not frozen as long as you have the
knowledge to help the plants along.

Plant spacing is determined by the plant species and hedge type.
Most plantings will range from a spacing of a foot or two to a
couple of feet. Many people will plant the shrubs and fail to
prune them back hard. Pruning generally will make the shrubs
more dense and compact.

The following is a list of shrubs suitable for hedges that we
sell:

Amur maple Acer ginnala 15 to 18 feet natural Barberries
Berberis species 1 to 5 feet natural or sheared Boxwood Species
2 to 4 feet natural or sheared Redosier dogwood (D) Cornus
sericea 8 to 10 feet natural Burning bush (D) Euonymus alatus 6
to 15 feet natural Junipers (E) 8 to 15 feet natural Beautybush
(D) Kolkwitzia amabilis 8 to 10 feet natural Spirea VanHoutte
(D) 6 to 8 feet natural Lilacs (D) 4 to 15 feet natural Yews (E)
Taxus species 2 to 10 feet natural or sheared Arborvitae (E) 3
to 15+ feet natural or sheared Arrowwood viburnum (D) Viburnum
dentatum 6 to 8 feet natural American Cranberry (D) 8 to 12 feet

Do You Love Your Body?

Through out the course of one’s life one is faced with and accumulates a history of emotional trauma that becomes stored in ones’s energy field. Such trauma poses many problems. These include such things as emotional and physical pain, chronic stress, a drain in one’s vital life energy and the tendency for the individual to take flight from the physical body. In this article I hope to address the latter, its consequences and a new modality that may be able to reverse this tendency.

What does taking flight from the physical body look like phenomenologically? Commonly it is experienced as a feeling of numbness to the pain. With more significant trauma it takes the form of a dissociative episode. This phenomenon is typically seen in what was previously called Multiple Personality Disorder i.e. where an individual would spontaneously shift from one personality to another as a result of some disturbing emotional trigger. The purpose of the new personality is usually to isolate and suppress the emotional pain that exists in the original personality. In more serious cases one can experience actually leaving the physical body. Such examples include out of body experiences and near death experiences.

Metaphorically it is like trying to put a wall between one’s self and a raging fire so that the heat of the fire is not felt. In each case the purpose is the same i.e to protect one’s self from feeling overwhelmed by the pain. In each case however the impact on the physical body is detrimental. In order to appreciate why this is so it is necessary to first understand exactly who or what is being separated from the emotional pain that lives in the physical body. Very simply it is the experience of one’s Core Self.

So what is being said here is that there is one Self, the Core Self, that is being “forced” out of the physical body in order to avoid feeling the vast accumulation of emotional pain that exists there. This Self is also what some might call the Spirit or Soul of the individual. This Self is also the source of one’s vital life energy i.e. the energy that is required to support the physical body in a healthy and vital state. So in effect when the Spirit is being forced out of the physical body by the emotional pain that exists there there is less life energy left in the body to support it.

If the Spirit is completely forced out of the body, and there is no other energy readily available to support it then the body dies. From an experiential standpoint this is equivalent to one giving up on life i.e. on the body.

It becomes necessary now to point out that it is the accumulated negative emotional and physical (which also has a negative emotional component connected with it) pain that eventually forces the Spirit and vital life energy from the body. As human beings we have come to accept this as a normal process and consider it the cycle of life.

I would like to point out however that now there is a new tool that has the capacity to not only reduce the emotional pain stored in the body (i.e. actually the body’s bio-energetic field) but to release it completely and permanently.

What effect will this have on the process described above? Well from over 10 years of experience using this tool, which I call the Mind Resonance Process(TM)(MRP), it is becoming evident that the tendency to want to seek refuge from the body is reduced significantly. Additionally overall stress is reduced, vital life energy is significantly enhanced, the body begins to heal and look younger, and the joy for a full and lengthy life returns.

I am currently in the process of conducting research on MRP to see whether it can slow and or reverse the aging process. For instance, correlates of the aging process are seen in declining DHEA levels and testosterone levels in middle aged men. I hope to show that MRP has the capacity to reverse these trends.

Toddler Tips — Rediscover the Joy of Parenting Your Toddler!

I’m so tired of hearing about the “terrible twos”. Toddlers are wonderful, imaginative, curious, growing creatures with great senses of humor and an amazing zest for life. If there’s anything “terrible” it’s the way they are treated by the grown-ups around them. Sometimes, this is due to a simple misunderstanding of what can really be expected from your toddler.
Toddlers’ brains are developing at a rapid rate and at times it can seem that the baby we knew yesterday is no relation to the toddler we see today. For some parents who were never really comfortable with the totally dependant baby, this change to an independent mover is a blessing. But for most of us, this rapid progression is intimidating and even frightening.

To see what I mean, we must take a quick look at toddler development. If we want to understand who they are, we have to find out where they are. Toddlers spend much of their time working on their gross motor skills – that means walking, climbing, jumping and exploring the great big world. As they develop independence, phobias can also arise, as well as separation anxiety and fears of strangers. They are also working on language and communication – which is where a lot of frustration can arise – for both the toddler and her family. Feeding toddlers can be a tricky experiment in nutrition, as their wants and needs change from one day to the next. Sometimes toddlers even begin to have disrupted sleeping patterns, even those who have slept through the night for months on end.
Whew! No wonder people call these little bundles of contradiction “terrible” and struggle to find the joy in daily care-taking.

But I have great news for you: toddlers are sweet, fun, inquisitive, joyful, loving, curious, really special beings. Below, you will find some tips for handling your toddler and some strategies to help bring joy to every single day that you get to spend with your toddler. Don’t miss out on the blessing that your toddler waits to give you. When you can relax into his world, you will rediscover childhood joys and remember why you wanted to have this little being in the first place.

Tips for Toddlers:

• Toddlers are a bit like dogs in that they are totally present to the “now” moment AND they are most at home in the great outdoors. Take these two facts and get outside with your toddler! Let her show you the new flower in the garden, the big puddle in the driveway, the old tire swing in the park. Rediscover the joys of the great world with your toddler. It can actually be one of the most relaxing ways to enjoy spending time with her.

• Early exercise will help him to sleep better, both at naptimes and nighttimes. Get out to the park in the mornings and let him do what he does best: run around like a little heathen. This will also help him to eat better.

• Speaking of eating… Don’t let mealtimes turn into fights. How? Five times a day (yes, five!), sit your toddler down with a small, well-balanced meal. That means some dairy, some grains (preferably whole grains), some fruits and veggies, and some protein. If you watch carefully, you will find that she will eat a balanced diet over the course of a week. You don’t have to worry if she won’t eat a balanced meal at every sitting or even every day. Toddlers are much more tuned in to their bodies and they will eat what their bodies require if they are offered a variety of healthy foods. Really. Also, make sure she’s getting plenty of whole, organic milk. It’s critical to growing brains and bodies.

• Getting a toddler to cooperate can seem like trying to herd a group of unwilling cats – but it is possible! One key is to offer him age-appropriate choices. Toddlers love being in control and they really enjoy the power of making their own choices; but you have to do it in a smart way. For example, if you want your toddler to sit down and get his shoes on so you can leave for the grocery store, DO NOT say, “Honey, can we go to the grocery store?” or “Will, can you turn off the TV?” or even “Get over here and get your shoes on!” The first two won’t work because you’re asking him a yes or no question. He will probably say no. That’s what toddlers do. The third option doesn’t work because toddlers don’t like being bossed around any more than you do. Here’s an option that works: “Will, we’re going to the grocery store and it’s time to put on your shoes. Do you want to wear your sandals or your tennies?” This puts him in control, but he’s doing what you want him to do anyway. By the way, a good rule of thumb is to give your toddler the number of choices that he has years in his age. If he’s two years old, give him a choice between two things.

• If you have a fearful toddler, be as patient as you can! The best gift you can give her is an understanding parent who gives her unconditional love and a sense of safety. Remember, this time of toddlerhood is simply a bump in the road in the life of your child. She does not need to grow up today and be independent. She will blossom when she’s ready. Just make her feel secure in the world. She’ll do the rest as time goes by.

• Potty training can seem like a little nightmare all its own. The best way to have an easy time with it is to not begin toilet training until he clearly shows you that he wants to. Otherwise, it becomes a battle for control of his body. And guess who wins? He does. It is, after all, his body. So let him take the lead in potty training. It will go much more smoothly.

• Lastly, make sure you read to your toddler every day. Even if it’s the same two books every single day, over and over again (and it probably will be), do it! This not only sets up great bonding time between the two of you, but it helps to foster that love of learning and joy of discovery that every toddler innately possesses.
