Why Binges Take Place

Being a former victim of an eating disorder I understand the fear of eating, the sudden binges and the feeling of being completely out of control and lonely. Anyone actively suffering from binges must realize that it is not your fault, but rather due to a biochemical disturbance caused by a low caloric diet. While willpower is what will kill a binge, you must realize that the willpower begins in eating.

Most people interesting in losing weight will drastically drop their calories. For some, 1500 calories a day is a decent number, for others this is extremely low. However, many fad diets and dieting clinics will dip far below the maintenance caloric level, in turn, putting the body in starvation defense mode.

Individuals who drastically cut calories below 1500 or their maintenance level frequently develop bingeing habits. At least half the individuals that regularly diet take active binges. This is the reason to take a designated cheat day once a week to convenience the body that it is not starving and to set the metabolism in motion again.

A binge is not necessarily a form of weakness or willpower, but is associated with an imbalance correlated with a low-caloric diet. Not only does a low calorie diet put the body in a starvation defense, but also affects the thyroid, slowing down the metabolism, in turn, storing more fat.

The body’s defense in correcting the imbalanced thyroid takes place through binges, which makes the thyroid active once again. After a binge an excess amount of calories has ingested, and out of guilt and punishment the individual starves himself again. This type of behavior is a form of yo-yo dieting that leads to weight gain.

To combat binges take control over your eating habits. This is where willpower and focus take place. You must supply you body with fuel to function. A binge is not a sign of weakness, but a result of a disruption in the thyroid. Allow yourself the maintenance number of calories a day for your body and grant yourself a cheat day to keep the thyroid and metabolism active and functioning properly. Starving yourself will not result in weight loss but eating will. Please eat and take control of your life.

Light Weight Camping/Adventure Food.

Filed under:A Life Of Leisure — posted on @ 3:43 pm

Before venturing upon your next great adventure into the wilds
you may wish to do some organizing and testing/research and find
some tasty lightweight foods to take along to keep the weight
down to a minimum ,whether you are planning a canoeing/kayaking
or bike hike or just a trek to your favourite special place ,
there is no need to carry unneeded excess weight and packaging.

There are plenty of options available and before deciding upon
certain types it is best to try the tastes as some lightweight
foods can be very ordinary in taste especially in bulk amounts,a
little bit is ok but too much can be ………yuk! So taste and
try before you decide to take these foods along, otherwise this
is a good food source to have on-the-go without cooking or even
as a snack in the boat or on top of that mountain.

Dehydrated foods have been around for a long time and can be
easily found in the local supermarket ; things like
carrots, peas, beans, potatoes; you could even have some in your
cupboard at home.

Versatile dried fruits are my favourites, such
as,raisins,dates,apricots,sultanas,and dried apples are the
perfect snack.

Premade packaged meals can be a useful take along and so can
vacuum sealed/cooked fish [salmon etc ] , just be kind with the
rubbish.

Nuts are great ; almonds, peanuts and best of all cashews.

Beef jerky is really yum and addictive and you can get a hot
variety as well.So make sure you have plenty of water handy if
you decide you want to burn your faced off !

Noodles are an old favourite although the styrene containers are
a worry to dispose of in the middle of nowhere, because you
cannot just leave this rubbish behind anywhere.

Powdered milk is an aquired taste for that caffeine hit or cup
of tea; although if weight is not a problem, long life milk is
handy and comes in skim as well. Powdered orange and sports
drinks can add a change too.

Freeze dried foods can be helpful and could be freeze dried
chicken , lasagna , corn and pasta and come in good sturdy
packaging.

Health food shops stock a massive selection of dried foods and
muesli bars and other interesting bars of
peanuts/nuts/honey/carob etc;that pack well in your backpack.

Specialty items are more difficult to find at particular
stockists that carry army type foods like dried eggs and things
that are designed to last a long time and take little space and
can get wet if a canoe/camping adventure is planned.

Storage of these items is very important and sturdy good quality
re-sealable plastic bags are ideal as they can be recycled and
used again and will keep the rubbish to an absolute minimum; the
food can be sorted into day lots or groups and a master bag can
keep them together and catch any possible spillage.Plastic bags
can be packed into nooks and crannies to maximise space with no
hard or sharp edges to worry about in your backpack. Before
packing ;get rid of any surplus packaging so you don’t carry
rubbish all over the countryside Hoping you can find this
article of use and happy camping!.

What’s In Your Beverage?

Filed under:Online Science Resources — posted on @ 2:50 pm

Calibration standards, performance audits, and the FDA’s
never-ending safety, labeling, and inspection requirements are
just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to dealing with the
increasingly stringent quality control standards of the beverage
industry. As these quality standards become stricter, beverage
producers are increasingly called upon to get products to market
faster using fewer resources, while simultaneously managing
ingredient quality, and ultimately, risk.

Mix rigorous regulations and mounting market challenges with
exploding competition and the opportunity for enormous economic
reward, and it becomes obvious that products must be perfect the
first time around to fulfill production requirements, comply
with distribution standards, and ultimately provide each
consumer with the exact same exceptional product every time.

All of which makes quality control more necessary than ever.

Quality Assurance in the beverage industry starts by ensuring
that top quality gases are used to perform the carbonation
process and continues through the bottling and distributing
process with a high-tech quality control examination.

On the top of the list of gases regulated in the world of drink
is carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the main components of many of
the beverages produced today, including soda, beer, sparkling
water, and sports drinks. CO2 has also become a major
constituent of orange juice through supercritical CO2 processing
during pasteurization and has even entered the world of dairy
with the addition of “Refreshing Power Milk,” a new carbonated
milk hybrid, to the refreshments market.

Leading beverage manufacturers in this $700 billion industry are
taking the critical step to ensure purity of beverage-grade CO2
by using analytical support gases and quality assurance
services. Since ensuring purity of CO2 is such a crucial factor
in the beverage production process, choosing a specialty gas
company to provide purification, calibration, and
cross-reference services for your products should be a priority.

Keep in mind that specialty gas companies outside of the
beverage industry hold a uniquely favorable position as
authoritative and neutral third-party qualifiers. These
companies provide experience in developing trace contaminant
calibration standards as well as independence from the supply
and certification of beverage grade CO2, which helps to ensure
unbiased statistical and graphical reporting.

Regardless of the industry from which the service company
originates, it is vital that it provides specialized service in
the CO2 industry and adheres to industry standards on commercial
quality with regard to CO2.

Some more guidelines to consider when choosing a Quality Control
Specialty Gas Service: * Your CO2 supplier should provide
certification and analysis indicating compliance with commercial
quality standards, such as ISBT, the International Society of
Beverage Technologists * Your quality assurance service company
should have the resources available to create custom gas
mixtures for CO2 ingredient quality control. Typical components
include (but are not limited to) the following: Methane Ethane
Ethanol Dimethyl Ether Ethyl Acetate Methanol Ammonia Nitric
Oxide Nitrogen Dioxide Carbonyl Sulfide Acetaldehyde Benzene
Cyclohexane Ethylbenzene Diethyl Ether Toluene m-Xylene p-Xylene
o-Xylene * Preparing two sets of gas mixtures should be standard
procedure for your chosen service company, with double analysis
of each set to check for minor component stability, and
guarantee a shelf life for the components. * To further assure
accurate results, your service company should identify
inaccuracies and verify analytical processes by having
participant labs analyze blind internal audit standards. * Your
service company should furnish a report to your company’s
quality control department detailing analytical results,
including a statistical representation of the performance of
each participant laboratory. * Membership in the International
Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT) Quality Committee,
Carbon Dioxide Subcommittee, should be maintained in order to
keep abreast of emerging analytical methods and technologies
within the beverage industry. * Top of the line service
companies will provide CO2 Cross-Referencing Services to confirm
the accuracy of critical analytical processes. These programs
provide beverage manufacturers with a reliable and objective
method of monitoring the performance of multiple laboratories
who qualify carbon dioxide used in carbonated beverages as well
as confirm ingredient quality. Cross-Referencing Service should
be considered in order to: o Achieve the highest degree of
confidence in the accuracy of analyses; o Confidentially
identify inconsistencies or other problems in analytical
processes; and o Maintain reliable and accurate intra-company
quality assurance. * Most importantly, make sure the service
company has top rate Internal CO2 Audit Standards to meet the
most demanding accuracy requirements for virtually any type of
customized mixture and that a Certificate of Accuracy is
provided for each cylinder. By choosing a Quality Control
Specialty Gas Service carefully, your company can be sure to
keep pace with the ever-expanding list of regulations — and
quite possibly gain an even larger piece of this multi-billion
dollar pie.

How much do people earn from home-based businesses?

The potential earning power of a home-based business is much
higher than most people think or realize. The truth of the
matter is that there are hundreds of people out there earning a
very comfortable income from their home business. Some have even
been made millionaires virtually overnight, by their small home
based businesses.

But what has brought in a lot of skeptics is the loads of hype
circulating the net about home businesses and especially home
business opportunities, most of which is untrue. But for anybody
who can dare look beyond the hype, they would be shocked at what
they’d find.

Just think about it, if you were making $100,000 a month from
your home based business, would you go around everywhere
persuading people to believe that that was the kind of money you
are raking in from your small home based business? That’s very
unlikely. What is more likely is that you would try and keep it
a secret and quietly continue to make your money.

Well the secret has gotten out, thanks to some home business
affiliate opportunity programs keen to promote themselves
further by showing others what the potential of their home
business really is.

Actually there has never been a time in the history of mankind
when a home business has had the potential it has today.

Everything is made that much easier by the wonderful medium
called the World Wide Web. It makes it possible to conduct
business from the comfort of your home at any time of the day or
night. In fact with many e-commerce home business opportunities
these days, your home business doors remain wide open and ready
for business 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Even when you are
asleep.

The net can easily be used as a highly effective marketing tool
and a home business owner can even automate many of the routine
repetitive tasks that are a part of any marketing program.

And the amazing thing is that all this is possible without
having to employ a large work force which would require the home
business owner to meet an equally large payroll bill at the end
of every month. Instead the home business owner is now fully
capable of delivering a service that rivals that of a larger
corporation with a large work force and huge resources.

These are just some of the reasons why, even as you read this,
there are some smart home business owners out there earning a
lot of money from their home based businesses. You just need to
talk to some of them and find out how they go about it, it is
actually simpler than you think.

Using FTP to Send Large Files

Filed under:World Of Technology — posted on @ 12:46 pm

It was inevitable that our work files would mushroom to sizes far beyond restrictions imposed by most email services. The reason can be summarized in one word: graphics.

Whether you want to send photos, CADD (computer aided drafting & design) files or encyclopedic volumes of scanned documents, you will hit roadblocks when you try to send these as email attachments.

Most email systems reliably allow file attachments of 1 megabyte or less. Above that level, service becomes unreliable, or at worst, nonexistent. Many have been chagrined to find that their large file transmission never arrived at its destination, yet they received no error message other than a very upset human one from the awaiting party.

Companies such as architectural and graphics design firms who routinely send large files have discovered a solution: FTP.

FTP (File Transmission Protocol) is the method by which large files are sent across the Internet. For example, when I press the “Publish” button in the blogger software I am using (a free Google service called Blogger (www.blogger.com), the service will send this article to my remote server (the computer which hosts my website) using FTP.

Generally, when you upload or download files from a website, you are using FTP. It is a more direct connection between you and the server because it is not routed through email systems at all. However, using FTP you will still use email, but it is just to tell the other party that a file has been posted to the FTP site.

By now you might assume that unless you have an always-on computer with a URL (web address) and web-hosting software, FTP might not be in your future. Wrong-o. There are companies out there including Poingo (www.poingo.com) who will rent you space on their remote server for a very nominal monthly charge.

Then the question becomes, “how do I do it?”

You can actually transmit files to a remote server using Windows Explorer(tm), however there are more robust applications available. We use Wise-FTP (www.wise-ftp.com), but we have heard that CuteFTP (www.cuteftp.com) is also good.

These apps will allow you to set up URL, username and password on a one-time basis, so that your FTP webspace can be accessed later with one click. Use FTP software to upload your large file to your remote webspace. You then need to teach your recipient to access and download it.

There are a few ways to do this. For the tech-savvy and trustworthy recipient, teach her what you learned about FTP software and get her up to speed. After you upload a file, send her an email which says, “Go to the site and grab this file:___”. You will need to give her the URL, username and password to your webspace, which involves a leap of faith. After all, anyone with this information can access all of the files you have posted there, and can also inadvertently delete files.

Now comes the cool part. Have you ever clicked on a download link? Did you notice that you did not have to supply a username or password in order to download? Download links are a function of http (hypertext transfer protocol-the way websites communicate to web visitors). The idea is that you gain download-only rights to a file if you know its exact URL, path and filename. No username or password required.

Poingo has developed an application called Personal-FTP (www.poingo.com) which puts the power of download links in your hands. It is so easy that you will wonder why you never knew about it before.

You will need a remote webspace and knowledge of the path your webspace provider uses to specifically access your webspace, not to mention the system rights. Or use Poingo FTP Service for a more integrated experience.

Using Poingo Personal-FTP software, you see a “browse” screen which allows you to select files within your local computer or network. When they are selected, click “Upload All” and watch the file transfer progress. When the upload is complete, Personal-FTP automatically creates a new email and places download links to your files in the email. Your recipient either clicks on the link or pastes it into her browser to get a fast, clean download without access to your other posted files.

This is the type of straightforward, elegant solution poingologists love.

Step by Step Patents

Do you have an idea or an invention that you would like to get
patented? Are you confused or unsure of what to do to obtain an
invention patent? The best place to go to get patent information
is through the U.S. Patent Office. This patent information is
available online at their website at uspto.gov. Here’s a step by
step guide to how the patent process unfolds.

The first step to filing your patent is to determine what kind
of patent you need. There are 3 types of patents. The first is a
utility patent. A utility patent protects how the new article is
used and how it works. The next is a design patent. A design
patent protects the way the new article looks. The third is a
plant patent which is used to protect asexually reproducing
plants that have been invented or discovered.

Once you have determined what kind of patent you need, you then
start the application process. The application must be filed
with the U.S. Patent Office. The application describes the
invention and it must state how to make use of the invention. It
should also include why this invention should be protected by a
patent. Documents, drawings, and testimonies should be included,
along with the application fees.

The second step is when the patent examiner does a patent search
to be sure your invention is truly new and not a copy of someone
else’s patent. The patent examiner will communicate with the
inventor or the inventor’s patent attorney if any questions
arise. This part of the patent application process can take some
time.

The third step is for the patent examiner to decide if the
invention is truly unique and therefore in need of a patent. If
your invention is unique, you receive a patent. If not, your
claim will be rejected and you will have to argue against it.

You may go through a patent attorney or submit your patent
application yourself. Patent attorneys can be found online or in
your local telephone book. You may submit applications online
electronically at the U.S. Patent Office’s website at uspto.gov.

Once you have obtained your patent, it will be good for a number
of years. Even so, it is possible for other inventors to try to
copy your patented idea. Your patent protection is of no use if
it isn’t enforced. To help ensure enforcement, you may wish to
get the help of an Invention Development Organization (IDO).
They will help you to keep your invention safe and to market
your product.

That’s it! There’s really not much involved in filing your
patent. For resources and other questions you may have see
http://patent101.com. With some tenacity and a clever idea, you
should be able to get a patent for your invention in just a
matter of time.

How to Install a New Toilet in 5 Easy Steps

Filed under:Home Improvement Center — posted on @ 7:42 am

If your toilet is old and in need of repairs, it is cheaper to replace it by installing a new one. This is quite easy to do and can be completed in an afternoon. However, if you plan to install a toilet in a new location, you will have to extend supply pipes and drainpipes to the desired spot, a job you may want to leave to a plumbing contractor.

Most toilets are sold with the necessary gaskets, washers, and hardware for fitting the tank to the bowl. However you might need to buy a few parts. Here is a list of what you need to complete this task:

Parts: Toilet bowl, Toilet tank, Toilet seat, Two 1/4″ bolts for bowl to flange, Wax ring, 20″ water supply with fitting at valve or floor connection and Tools: Pair of channel pliers, bucket, screw driver.

(Many of these can be ordered online at any DIY website such as DIY Tips UK: http://www.diy-tips-uk.com/plumbing/)

1. Shut off the water to the toilet, use a bucket and a cloth or a sponge to remove the water left in tank and bowl after you flush the toilet.

2. Using a pair of channel pliers, or a small pipe wrench (8″), remove the nut where the water line fastens to the ballcock valve under the left side of the bottom of the tank. Next use a small crescent wrench, remove the two 1/4″ nuts holding the bowl to the floor flange. Remove old toilet. Remove the water line from the valve or fitting at floor or wall.

3. Now you are ready to install your new toilet. Put the two 1/4″ bolts in the side holes of the flange with the bolt head in the flange. Put some of the old wax at this spot to hold the bolts straight up and across from each other. Put new wax ring on flange, flat side up if tapered.

4. Set new bowl only straight down so it centers on wax ring and both bolts come through holds on each side of bowl. Sit on bowl facing wall until your weight puts bowl flush with the floor. Put metal washers and nuts on bolts and tighten until snug. Do not over-tighten as you can crack the bowl. Tighten these again after toilet is completely installed and filled with water.

5. Next put 2″ rubber gasket on tank where it sets on the bowl, put rubber washers on bolts provided under the bolt head so they will be on the inside of the tank. Pick up tank and set on bowl over holes in bowl where bolts go through. Sit on bowl facing wall. Put bolts on from the inside of the tank into holes in bowl, put on metal washers and nuts and tighten. Hold tank level and tighten so it brings tank down level. Use a large screw driver inside tank and a crescent wrench or end wrench to back up nut under bowl. Tighten with screw driver. Hook water supply to tank, turn on water, check for leaks, and snug up the bolts holding bowl to floor. If there is a space between the back of the tank and the wall, put a spacer of sort there to brace tank. A piece of wood or hard rubber works fine.

Maintenance:

At least twice a year clean out the inside of your toilet tank. When cleaning the toilet tank, turn off the water, flush toilet once, add small amount of cleaning detergent inside tank to water remaining and use a cloth or brush to clean. Also clean out holes under toilet seat and rim of the bowl as well as the 3/4″ hole in the bottom of toilet bowl. Replace rubber tank ball at this time if needed. Maintaining your new toilet will keep the plumber away and reduce your plumbing bill.

Internet Marketing for Clothing Stores Online

Do you run an online clothing store? If you do, you know that the best way to make more money with the inventory that you have is by getting as many customers to the store as possible. Clothing is a seasonal business. People like to buy spring clothing in the spring and warm clothing in the winter, so you only have a short period of time during which you need to move your inventory.

So how can you sell the most clothing online in the shortest period of time? Use these tips to make more money with your online clothing store:

- Define the target market for the clothing that you sell. Sometimes the target market is more or less obvious. If you sell women’s tops and skirts, your target market is most likely women.

Sometimes the target market is not as obvious. If you sell clothing for kids who are 5-10 years old, your target market is not the kids themselves, but rather their parents. The parents are the ones who are going to shop online and spend money on clothing that you sell.

If you sell shirts and pants for men, both men and women might be your target market. Men are likely to shop for clothing that you offer since it is designed for them. However, women in their lives are also likely to shop and purchase clothing for men, so women will shop at men’s clothing stores as well.

- Show off the clothing in the best possible light. When people buy clothing, they really want to see how it looks; sometimes they even want to see how the clothes look on others. Make sure that you have high quality pictures of clothing on your web site.

- Provide as much information as possible about clothing. When people shop for clothing online they cannot try it on before buying. Therefore, they are looking for as much information about the clothing as possible.

Can the piece be laundered or is it dry clean only? What are all the measurements? What kind of material is the clothing made from?

By providing as much information as possible about the clothing on the web site, you will give you web site visitors more reasons to purchase what you have to offer.

- Optimize your clothing web site for search engines. When people are looking for clothing online, they are searching for them using search engines. If you optimize your web site for search engines, you will be able to get these people to your web site to buy the clothing that you are selling. Search engine optimization is the process of modifying web page content and meta-information to improve the search engine ranking of the page. Meta-information includes certain HTML tags (title, heading, emphasized text, keyword and description meta-tags), as well as the internal (links between pages on the same site) and external (links between pages on different sites) link structure of a web site.

Optimizing your web site helps you improve your search engine rankings and drive more traffic looking for clothing to your web site.

The Internet is a great place to sell clothing. By using the tips above you will be able to get more clients and sell more clothing online.
