How To Load A Horse Into A Trailer - Easy As Pie - Using Sma

If there is an art to getting horses to load in a trailer, then this it.

The first thing that must happen is communication between the horse and his handler. The horse must understand what is required of him and the handler must make it easy to understand.

Thus, you must start by getting the horse to move forward in either direction. After a direction is established then get him moving in the opposite direction. A round pen is excellent for this purpose.

When the horse gets good at moving both directions then it’s time to hook a lead rope to his halter and lunge him left and right. For instance, when you point left, the horse must know to go to your left. And vice versa for going right.

The final result should look like this. You’re holding the lead rope while facing your horse. As you hold the lead rope in your right hand, you hook the middle of the lead rope with your left thumb. Lift it up and point to the left.

Your horse, now knowing what to do, immediately goes to your left. After a circle or two you switch hands and get the horse to go to your right.

When he gets good at that, then send (lunge) him through gate openings, barn door openings, etc. Also, lunge him in smaller spaces to help him deal with his natural claustrophobia. You can do this by lunging him between you and a fence. As he goes back and forth make the space between you and the fence smaller. Be careful not to get stepped on.

Now that he’s good at that, you take him by the trailer. You open the door and let him sniff it. Then you step back and face your horse. You lunge him left and right in front of the trailer while he passes back and forth by the opening.

After all this pointing and sending your horse now knows what you want. You have communicated to him when you point left that he is to move left and so on.

The next step is to face him to the trailer. With his head facing into the trailer and you standing on his left side you then send (point) him into the trailer.

Some horses will simply jump right in the trailer where others may take more work.

If your horse doesn’t go in after pointing and coaxing then take him away from the trailer and make him work. Now you want to convey the idea that being in the trailer means he can relax. Being outside the trailer means he has to work hard. Eventually, he’ll catch on.

Once you have him in the trailer, pet him and let him relax. Talk to him. Let him know how good he did.

Obviously, getting a horse to load in a trailer isn’t rocket science. But you can do it. It takes patience and work.

Testosterone and Prostate Cancer

Filed under:Hall Of Medical Resources — posted on @ 9:07 pm

Everyone should know that when testosterone is metabolized, it produces DHT as one of the by-products, which is what allows your muscles and erections to grow. That is a good thing! However, DHT that doesn’t get burned up during sex or working out is also what is at the root of your prostate problems to begin with.

The fact of the matter is that DHT is always being produced, and a lot of us simply cannot burn it off fast enough–no matter how much we work out in the gym or how much sex we have.

In the case of prostate problems, one camp blames a lack of testosterone while the other camp blames too much of it. I have even heard of a doctor suggesting castration as a means of preventing the spread of prostate cancer because he believed it was the only way to prevent testosterone from acting as fuel for the cancer.

Talk about a case of throwing away both the baby and the bathwater!

I’m sure that we’ve all heard at some point or another the notion that more sex is the solution to prostate problems, citing as evidence the high incidence of prostate cancer in celibate priests. Let’s think about this for a moment: If more sex was really the solution, how come a certain rock-star died from prostate cancer? Also, if prostate cancer is the number one cancer killer of males, were all these murdered males celibate? Not likely…

While plain common sense would indicate that utter sexual abstinence may be harmful over the course of a lifetime, prostate cancer remains the number one cancer-killer of males DESPITE the fact that very few males are either rock stars or priests!

So, prostate cancer has little to do with sexual activity or the testosterone that fuels it. Rather, it is an issue of how we handle the excessive DHT in our bodies. With today’s meat and hormone-filled diets it should be no wonder that our current report card is so poor.

This is why pro-hormone supplementation is replete with warnings that people with prostate problems should not be taking their products. (Bodybuilders love excess DHT which they can direct into their muscle tissue.)

Benign prostatic hyperplasia, often referred to as simply BPH, is an enlargement of the prostate gland that usually occurs in men who are over the age of 50. This enlargement in the prostate gland can cause a gradual squeezing of the urethra, which makes urinating difficult and painful. Many men who experience this prostate problem do not have any symptoms at all and it may not be detected until an annual rectal exam. Men with this prostate problem who do experience symptoms are likely to notice difficulty in starting urination, frequent urination as well as an increased frequency in awakening at night to urinate.

Prostate cancer, another prostate problem, is perhaps the most severe and is one of the leading types of cancers diagnosed in American men. Each year almost a quarter of a million new cases are diagnosed. It is estimated that prostate cancer will affect one out of every ten men. Each year more than 30,000 men die from prostate cancer. Because of the seriousness of this prostate problem, prostate cancer is perhaps the most serious of all the different types of prostate disease. Prostate cancer generally occurs in men who are over the age of 65, although cases in younger men have been reported. There is a high incidence of prostate cancer occurring in men who are shown to have a family history of this type of prostate disease. African-American men are considered to be particularly at risk for prostate cancer and suffer from the highest death rates related to this disease.

Ten Rewards for Building Longterm Relationships with Editors and the Seven Things You Need to Do to

Filed under:Living With Publishers — posted on @ 6:12 pm

The Rewards

1. Trust. Trust is earned over time. A lot of mistakes or
misunderstandings that might make an editor wonder about a
writer they don’t know will all be water under the bridge in a
trusted relationship. 2. Strong Lines of Communication. Another
benefit of trust is openness. You’re more likely to know just
what your editor needs and be better prepared to please her or
him with strong, open communication between you. 3. Ongoing Work
and a Regular Paycheck. An editor who has learned to count on
you will do so, time and again, assignment after assignment. 4.
Growing Relationships = More Work and Raises. The more an editor
trusts you, the more she or he will entrust to you. Maybe twice
the work each month as when you started. To keep you, as the
relationship grows, your paycheck will often grow also. 5.
Growing Clip Files. An editor who assigns you work every month
is good for a dozen new clips a year, as opposed to the editor
who only calls on you once or twice. 6. Great References. The
longer and better they know you, the more likely they are to
gladly recommend you, and in just the right way. 7. Word of
Mouth Advertising. Those recommendations will often come without
you even asking for them. 8. Consistent Style and Other
Expectations = Easier, More Familiar Work. The better you know
an editor and their expectations the more it will be second
nature to do just what it takes to keep them happy. 9. Insights
and an Inside Track on What’s Happening in the Industry. Editors
will not only entrust you with more work, but more information
as part of those tried and true relationships. 10. Momentum. One
of the best ways to build momentum in this industry is to work
with people longterm. Rather than always digging up new work and
building new relationships, ongoing relationships and work can
carry you while you add to them.

Building Editor Relationships

1. Study the Markets. Magazines with the same bylines month
after month use the same writers longterm. Build relationships
with these editors first. 2. Know Them so They’ll Want to Know
You. If you are familiar with the magazine’s thrust, needs,
expectations and working style and deliver that first article in
a way that demonstrates that it and you are a perfect fit for
the publication, it’s easier for the editor to envision a
longterm relationship with you. 3. Make Your Intentions Known.
Let editors know you are interested in building longterm
relationships that produce a win for everyone. 4. Don’t Rest on
Your Laurels. Though it should get easier to satisfy your
editors, they will also expect growth from you. 5. Protect
Growing Relationships. The longer you work for an editor, the
more important it becomes to never miss a deadline, never turn
in a bad piece, never let them down. The more you have invested,
the more this relationship is worth. 6. Follow Editors to New
Publications. If an editor goes to another magazine, try to
preserve both your relationship with your editor and the current
magazine if you can. If they aren’t directly competing, this may
be a way to double your work. To this end, build relationships
with others at the magazine, as well. Become a source of
articles the publication can’t do without, no matter who the
editor is. 7. Make Conversation. There will be moments when it
is appropriate to just be human. When they come, talk, make
conversation, inquire, get to know your editors as people as
well as professionals.

Crown Princess Debuts June 14th With a Host of Firsts

From a shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, the Crown Princess has been taking shape over the last year. Though you would never know it from seeing construction photos, this massive body of steel beams will soon be sculpted into a luxury vessel boasting a list of firsts including innovative features, fresh amenities and new ports of call that will sail you off into the sunset of your choosing.

Several distinctive differences are noted about Crown Princess. Upon her maiden voyage in June 2006, she will be the first in the Princess Cruise fleet to sail roundtrip Caribbean itineraries from New York (Red Hook, which is located in Brookland). Unique destinations await passengers including the Eastern Caribbean port of Bermuda. Equally fascinating are the added ports of Grand Turk and the Turks and Caicos Islands which have been virtually undiscovered until now.

Along with the Grand Turks port comes 20 new shore excursions. As innovative as the port itself, adventures of all activity levels will be available to passengers from exhilarating Harley rides to relaxing super-sized pools.

According to Princess Cruise Line, “Hop-On/Hop-Off Island Tours are first of their kind island tours that operate as a hop-on-hop-off tour which includes stops at a restored 1800s prison and a historic lighthouse.” Also available: Harleys In Paradise, where passengers to St. Maarten can tour the scenery on Harley-Davidson motorcycles; zip line tours amid the canopy of St. Lucia’s tropical rainforests; river tubing on Grenada’s Balthazar River and more.

If you think you’ve heard the name “Crown Princess” before, you are correct. Initially built in 1990 by controversial designer Renzo Piano, the original Crown Princess has been transferred to a sister cruise line where she serves under a different name. As for the new Crown Princess, she is totally redesigned with cruising in mind and features numerable amenities not found on other ships.

Onboard the Crown Princess you’ll find more firsts including Movies Under the Stars - an exclusive to Princess Cruise Line - where you can view blockbuster hit films outdoors on a gigantic, 300 square foot, LED screen. Passengers can make complimentary chaise lounge reservations for available features. Cocktail specials are available as well as free popcorn and other movie munchies. Atrium dining is also a specialty of Princess Cruises as well as Personal Choice Dining that allows you to choose seating at any restaurant at any time.

From exciting nightclubs to digital golf simulators and a nine-hole putting course, from four pools to a sports court and jogging track, you’ll find something for everyone, including one of the largest casinos afloat.

Kids and teens even get their own special spaces with The Fun Zone, Off Limits Teen Center, a video arcade and the Chill Out splash pool. That’s the perfect place for them to hang out while adults visit the Sanctuary - a quiet poolside area of the ship just for adults to relax and unwind.

According to Princess officials, Crown Princess’ summer season will include 12 departures from New York between May 12 and September 6 on the Eastern Caribbean. Ports include Bermuda, San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Grand Turk. In fact, her inaugural season is expected to be such a success that a second season in New York has already been slated.

Departing from New York in June 2006, the all-new Crown Princess offers a host of firsts designed to captivate passengers and provide exciting new adventures on and off the ship.

Motorcycle Riders Need to Wear Protective Leather Clothing Like Leather Jackets and Leather Chaps

Filed under:ATBs, MTBs, etc. — posted on @ 1:46 pm

Why should motorcycle riders wear protective leather clothing? Because the high quality leather jackets and leather chaps can save your life as well as keep you warm and looking good.

I want to hit on the key aspects of why you are buying your leathers. Protection, Warmth, and Looks.

A lot of our customer’s main concern is safety. How safe are our jackets? Well, safety is one of those things that is hard to measure. (Like glove warmth, it really depends on how cold natured you are as to how warm you will feel.) I would suggest trying to determine how safe you feel you need to be vs. the leather thickness. Fox Creek Leather uses only the best, thick, and durable cowhides. So thick in fact, that an EMT went through 4 pair of shears to remove them after a wreck. You can read about this crash testimonial and others on our site. So yeah, our gear holds up.

You also need warmth when it is cool and a breeze when it is hot while still looking “cool” while riding. Almost all of our jackets have a vent system to help accomplish the comfort level of your ride. To keep cool, there are two generous vents in the front and in the back works (with a tough mesh shell) to allow maximum airflow. When it starts to cool off, just zip up your vents and put the zip out thinsulate liner back in it for added warmth.

Everything was designed by a motorcycle rider to ensure that you get the most functionality out of your leathers as possible. As an added bonus, you look good in the soft, buttery leather.

Anyway, to keep my blog from turning into a full blown advertisement, let’s move onto the topic of the leather itself. Specifically, what type of leather should you buy? What qualities should you be looking for in the leather itself?

Check the grain, the dye process, and the thickness of the leather.

The best leathers are thick, drum dyed, naked leather. This means that the grain of the hide is unaltered. (Lesser hides are corrected by sanding to remove imperfections, making it hard to see the grain). With naked leather, you can see the actual scars that that particular cow obtained during its lifetime. Only the highest quality hides can be used to make naked leather. Drum dyed leathers are immersed in a drum of dye and tumbled. This method provides the most even and permanent dying that will not bleed.

But the interesting thing is that I am talking about purchasing leathers from an online business. It’s hard to feel, inspect, and even smell the leathers over the internet. So it is important to check the return policy. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, no matter what they may be. Last but not least, get help with the sizing. Most companies sizing differs and help from a sales associate can save time and shipping expenses.

Forex Trend Detection

Long term profitable Forex trading warrants long term goals and objectives. One good idea is to have an excellent trend based trading system. Just having one will not really work out if you do not follow it in a disciplined manner. Building a trend based trading system is no mean task. The basic skill lies in solidifying the rules for trend detection and adhering to them religiously. Some studies like DMI, Parabolic, MACD, Stochastic etc. are available which could be used as trend filters.

These studies are only indicators in the long run. It would always be advisable if a trader has an advisor or a consultant who would really undertake these tasks on his behalf. A consultant would analyze with a more technical relevance than a trader would, and would make sure of the percentages of profit are good despite a few losses on the average. Moreover, trend is just an indicator; it cannot earn or guarantee profits. Trend only assures that the average trend moves in a particular direction – up or down. It is not realistic to make such profit every month depending on trend. Trend changes will reflect on your trading system a little late, so being on the cautious side is always advised.

Trend is required to be updated on a regular basis for it to work for you. Most traders forget this rule since they feel holding position is more important than taking pains of adding another trade. They normally open a trend after closing the previous one. It is not the correct practice to success. Updating trend after consultation and proper analysis is one of the most effective ways of becoming a Forex trader.

Updating trend will also enlighten a trader as to where he should fix his losses. So before your Forex trade starts bleeding without your notice, update your trend and be prepared to succeed.

Eight Forward Steps

This is a ‘skeleton’ outline of the goal achievement path – the journey on which I might take you during coaching sessions.

There are many other ‘tools’ and ‘conversations’ that are included within and between each of these core steps.

Step One – Set Your Intention

Know and get crystal clear about what you are wanting and why you want to do that, specifically and honestly.

If there is no heartfelt emotional passion behind it then the first little hurdles will stop you dead in your tracks.

Try taking away the goal …what do you feel about it if you never did anything about this thing, at all…ever?

Why get into action with something that doesn’t personally inspire you?

Your reasons for creating what you want are allowed to be selfish and frivolous. E.g. it can be as simple as …I am bored and I’d like to try this because I’m curious and it would keep me entertained for a few months! This is a valid reason - just KNOW that this is your reason. Be really honest and real with yourself. OWN your reasons.

Step Two - Be Clear in Vision

Get crystal clear about what your intended end result will “look like” when all is accomplished.

What is in existence in the physical realm, what is it providing and producing? How is it making you feel?

At what date does all that exist? Get it down to colour, texture, smell, feel etc. KNOW what you are creating.

Can you “see it” vividly in your mind’s-eye?

Step Three – List the Options

List ALL the possible ways that the above can be achieved. There are thousands of options! E.g. look at all the physical exercise programs there are in the world, all the possible diets, all the possible ways to generate income, all the possible ways to express gratitude or love, all the ways to structure a home or office environment.

Step Four - Decide and Choose

Choose ONE of the ways on that list and make it a priority focus for the next few months. DECIDE and choose!

Eliminate all others that will distract and those that are ineffective or not feasible.

Step Five – Increase Desire and Focus

Increase your level of desire and manage your thoughts. Stop trying. Replace every negative thought and doubt with a power statement or vision. EVERY thought that you have, harms or helps your project – live as though this IS the truth. Moment by moment, STOP any doubt or negative thought and continually refocus on where you are going. Each day spend many moments feeling your body experiencing the end result and visualizing yourself accomplishing and enjoying the completed goal.

Step Six - Plan

Action plan it. List ALL possible actions to accomplish your goal - as in a brainstorm exercise. Write all down, silly or not. Select the CRITICAL actions and put them on a timeline. Drop the smaller actions in amongst those. Give them all dates. Work in reverse from the finish date and back to today.

Step Seven – Align Your Environment

Share what you are going to do, with people who will be impacted by your plans or those who could help.

Do not share it with those who’ll throw a negative comment back at you immediately that you express your desires.

Declutter to remove unnecessary distractions; this includes activities, people, and things. Prepare your structures that support you such as calendars, displays, conversations, habits, daily creation of your days, people around you.

Step Eight - Action (put one foot in front of the other)

Take the actions on your plan on the dates that you said and continue to manage ‘Step Five’ EVERY moment.

Get That Job You’ve Always Wanted With A Great Resume

If you’re looking for a job in this increasingly competitive job market your best chance of securing that job is via a great resume. Remember that a number of jobs are being outsourced so the remaining choice jobs are even harder to come by. The more you can convince an employer that you are the perfect candidate for the position the easier it will be for you to land the job of your dreams.

The first thing you might ask is: “What is a resume?” A resume is a document that informs your potential employer of your experiences, and accomplishments in the best possible light. It also lets your potential employer know what it is you are looking for and what your expectations are as well. It can also state any personal attributes that may impact in a positive manner on your job performance. Examples of this would be an ability to work under stress, punctuality, ability to communicate well with others.

It helps to know in advance what your prospective employer is looking for in an employee. Some of the key qualities are a willingness to share information and ideas. Another is one’s ability to work within a team. Responsiveness to change is important in that it demonstrates a degree of flexibility in the work environment. It also demonstrates a willingness to take risks with new ideas and products.

The first item in your resume is the cover letter. This is the introduction to your personal resume and must be interesting enough to entice the potential employer to proceed further. First address the cover letter to a specific person in charge of resource management. The paper and fonts used should be basic and not distract from the content of the resume. Use the “KISS” principle by keeping your cover letter short and to the point. In your opening you should list why you are writing. Then in the next paragraph ask for the job you are interested in obtaining and explain why you are the best person for the job. Then thank the reader for their time and make sure you leave your phone number and/or e-mail address so that the employer may contact you if any questions arise.

In the resume itself you should list your job descriptions in a chronological order starting with the most recent job descriptions first and then moving backwards. List any technical knowledge first, in an organized manner. Use action verbs and portray yourself as a “go-getter”. Leave out unnecessary personal information. Be concise.

The most common mistakes to avoid are being too verbose. One page should suffice. Do not use fancy paper or fonts, they detract from the content of the resume. Outdated or useless information will also detract from the resume. The most common error of all is selling yourself short. Let the employer know how truly valuable you are.

With these tips you should be able to increase your chances of obtaining that job you want. Interested in this subject? Try this link for more of the same.

Giving Leg Cramps and Muscle Cramps The Hot and Cold Treatment

I’ve pretty much always subscribed to the R.I.C.E (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) theory to treat an injury – but what about if you’re in the middle of an ultra-endurance event, your support crew is half a day away and you need to keep going before it gets dark.

Or what if you have 60 students booked in for a martial arts seminar and they want to see you in action – not the right time to say, “sorry, I seemed to have a cramp and want some ice”.

And not the time to stop and put your feet up.

Says Sports Nutritionist and Trainer Richard Renton on the subject of hot and cold treatment, “If you’re done for the event then putting an ice pack on the muscle and alternating with a hot pack is fine. However if you’re going to continue to perform, then keep the muscle as warm as possible.

If you want to continue to perform and put ice on an injury and keep using it, then during a performance you’re going to create more damage – so applying heat is the thing to do.

After an event, I like to apply ice for the first three hours and then alternate with heat, depending on the extent of the injury – to help with recovery”.

Eastern medicine certainly agrees with this approach with it’s use of moxa, acupressure and acupuncture techniques designed to stimulate blood flow (and generate heat) to an area.

Best advice for runners, sportspeople and anyone who suffers cramps at night is to have a tube arnica gel, tiger balm or ‘CM Cream’ on hand as part of a treatment plan to keep you going.

When I am teaching or training other people I always have a small pot of tiger balm on hand. I’ve found in the case of cramp that once you have squeezed and then stretched the muscle to get it going, a little tiger balm will help increase the blood flow to the affected area.

This cramp relief tactic of applying heat to the area before ice also seems to reduce recovery time. After the event is complete and it’s time to really rest the muscle, follow up with ice treatment.

Dave, a friend of mine who works as a massage therapist in Tasmania has a passion for ultra-endurance events – working on them not competing. It’s a great opportunity to get out of the office and catch some of the great scenery ‘Tassie’ has to offer.

There’s an amazing cross country mountain bike race that’s held annually and goes over 4 days (called the Wildside MTB) one of the chief complaints of the competitors is, you guessed it, leg cramps and muscle soreness.

Taking advantage of the surroundings, Dave gets all the competitors wanting a massage (that’s about all of them) to wade into the icy waters of their lake and beach-side camping areas before he treats them. He says the combination of cold treatment followed by therapeutic massage does wonders for rejuvenating cramped and tired muscles.

After an event (and if you don’t have a mountain lake handy), is to get a paper cup or plastic cup that holds about 120 ml, fill it with water and put it in your freezer and you make a great big popsicle that you can hold on to. After you race or train you peel the paper off and rub the ice on your cramped muscle and it’s an effective and inexpensive way to ice down.

For heat, tiger balm, arnica and CM cream are lightweight and easy to carry in a running pouch, can be purchased commercially for a reasonable price and will act as a lubricant for massage and to assist with initial stretch and recovery in the event of a cramp.

Don’t leave home without them!
