Organic Roses in the Flower Garden

Many people believe growing their flowers and vegetables organically is healthier for them and their environment. It is natural that you may wish to grow your roses this way also. Using the pesticides and insecticides that are usually considered to go along with growing roses and keeping them healthy can cause many people have to health problems . Maybe you just don’t want those kind of chemicals in your garden and around your children. This article will give some pointers in using more natural methods of growing your roses.

1. First do your homework and find out what type of roses grow well in your area. Buy disease resistant varieties. If you live in an area that has problems with a certain disease, look for a variety that is resistant to it. If you can, purchase organic roses. As they have already been growing with organic methods, this supposes they are “healthier”. and not already loaded with chemicals. Thus they have a stronger immune system. Of course, buy roses with no blemishes on them.

2. Roses like full sun. Make sure they are placed so as to get 6 to 8 hours of sunlight a day.

3. Do not crowd your roses together. Ensure that stress is reduced by providing lots of space for air to circulate around the bush. Take growth of the rose bush into account.

4. Plant your roses in good loamy soil. If your soil is not ideal, then amend it with organic material such as from your compost pile. You do have a compost pile, don’t you? Roses like well draining soil but they don’t want it draining as fast as you might get with sand, so amend your sandy soil. If you have clay soil, an alternative requiring a bit of work is to build a raised bed for your roses much like vegetable gardeners use. It should be at least a foot deep but more is better. Fill it with will amended soil.

5. Keep your watering consistent. Don’t allow your plants to dry out and suffer stress before watering. Roses can need up to 2 inches of water a week. Water every two to three days. This, of course, depends on your area and the type of weather (how much rainfall) you are getting. Also, be careful not to stress the plant by overwatering and depriving the roots of oxgen.

6. Mulch, mulch, mulch! Mulching can reduce the stress on your rose in several ways. It helps to hold in moisture which can be very good in a hot, dry climate. It helps maintain a more even temperature in the root zone. And mulch can smother weeds that could be competition for your lovely roses. As the mulch decomposes, it adds more nutrients to the soil around your plant. Lastly, it can cut down on some of your work. ;-)

7. Roses are, what could be considered, heavy feeders. They respond well to fertilizer and should be fertilized on a consistent schedule. Most organic fertilizers are slow-acting and may produce less spectacular results of a non-organic fertilizer. Some organic fertilizers to consider are composted manure, fish emulsion, alfalfa meal, blood meal, and cottonseed meal. If you wish to have a truly organic rose garden, you should ensure that your fertilizer is also organic. Of all these the only one you can be sure is truly organic would be your composted manure if you know exactly where it comes from and how the animals are raised. Perhaps you should consider your own animals raised organically. Chicken manure is very high in nitrogen and some localities allow a small backyard flock. Make sure it is composted thoroughly as chicken manure is very “hot” and will burn your plants.

8. Prune your roses in the early spring. To keep your roses healthy, get out the dead wood, damaged wood and anything that starts to look diseased (and don’t compost these trimmings). Thin out your plant to keep it from being crowded. Don’t allow branches to rub against each other. This will allow air and sunlight to get to the whole plant keeping it healthier.

In part 2 later this week, we will discuss some organic methods of combating specific diseases and pests.

Exercising for life - The magic is in the synergy!

Synergy: the working together of two or more things, people,
or organizations, especially when the result is greater than
the sum of their individual effects or capabilities

Momentum toward your goals is generated when all components
of fitness are incorporated into your workout program.

” Heart-through cardiovascular workout

” Skeletal muscle-through strength training

” Joints-through flexibility exercises.

” Good Nutrition-through balanced sensible eating.

Some exercise is better than no exercise; however, if your
program is lopsided with one or two of the same activities,
you will not get the best results.

DRIVING THE CAR

Having synergy in your exercise program is like turning a
car as you are driving down the road. It’s much easier to
turn the wheel while the car is moving rather than when it
is sitting in your driveway. Momentum allows you to steer
the car, just as momentum allows you to continually progress
in your workout program.

ROLLING THE SNOWBALL

Another example of having synergy in your workout program
would be rolling a snowball. Once the momentum has started,
it keeps building and building. Keeping that in mind, it is
very easy to only do certain exercises that you like and
those that take less effort; however, because this will not
work, in the end you will end up having to workout harder
and longer.

In a Nut Shell:

It is really important to have all areas of fitness working
together and in the most effective way possible. When all
the parts are working the machine works better. Leaving out
parts of your exercise routine, just because you do not like
them, is asking for failure.

Custom versus Stock Photos

In the 1990’s, the photography industry went through a revolution. Now it’s common to discuss imagery in terms of pixels per inch, jpegs, and tiffs. No longer do we discuss photography just in terms of film specifications. Digital images—both custom and stock photography—and software such as Adobe® Photoshop® are commonly used. As a result, we all need to be careful. As consumers, there are many options and legal implications to be aware of when buying and using graphic images.

Rights to photos: custom and stock

A question to ask early on in a project is, “Who has the rights?” Copyright law protects images as property of the photographer, with specific rights as defined by contract. These usually relate to time frame, types of use, and use in photographer’s promotional materials.

“For example, if you’re shooting an ad campaign, you may want to purchase rights for a year. If you extend the campaign, however, you need to renegotiate your purchase agreement with the photographer,” notes Kim Cobb, team leader at The AVS Group. “Any models, professional or not, used in pictures, should also sign releases, and you should be aware of any time or usage restriction that may be included in the release.”

“At AVS, you have rights to use images we shoot for you for as long as you want, in any type of media. There is no additional charge for these rights,” says Cobb. On the other hand, rights for stock images vary depending on the purchase agreement. Usually stock image firms allow the user free use of an image to present a concept or rough. If the user wants to use the image in a project, though, the image must be purchased.

Purchased images generally come in two types: traditional and royalty-free. The traditional license purchase is based on a full gamut of contract specifics and should be carefully reviewed. The second type, royalty free, typically allows the buyer to use the image with very few restrictions. Usually they are purchased for a one-time flat fee and altered to create new, unique works by the graphic designer.

What rights do consumers have for stock images?

“We’re often asked to provide the stock images that have been used in the creative execution of client’s project, but that is usually expressly prohibited in the license,” says Cobb.

As a rule, licenses state that the images may not be sublicensed, resold, or otherwise redistributed. Nor can they be detached from a product or Web page. Clients can receive the digital media as part of the product, but not separately.

Can consumers use their own images?

Yes. Having a disk of useable imagery at your fingertips is convenient, plus you can always add more.

“You might want to consider having commonly used images of your products or services compiled on a CD in formats you can use,” notes Cobb.

Some variables to consider would include how you plan to use the images (PowerPoint® presentations, Web use, printing, etc.) and color format (CMYK for print and RGB for electronic delivery).

Always read the fine print!

FOREX Mathematics – Same Trade Different Returns

One of the biggest benefits in the FOREX market is leverage. In the stock market you will have to find between $15,000 - $25,000 to start investing seriously. In the FOREX market you only need $1,000 to buy $100,000 worth of US Dollars (or $10,000 to buy $1 Million Dollars) - this is called leverage. It is a powerful concept that allows small investors to outlay a small fraction of the dollars they own.

ROI (Return on Investment) is an important financial metric to measure investment success. Most people would be happy to invest $5,000 in the stock market and get a 15% return after a year. In the FOREX market your ROI% is typically 100% – 200% per day (read carefully per DAY, not per year). The profit returns are tremendous. It is very common and easy to risk $300 and get paid $300 - $600 in a trade that is open for only 2 hours. Imagine trading full time and having these daily returns – do the calculations and you will be shocked!

The first commandment of Forex Trading is to develop a simple and consistent trading methodology. A trader needs to consistently earn PIPs (this is an acronym for movements in currency value) to be successful. By applying another form of leverage he can exponentially increase the profit returns. This leverage is called buying Multiple Lots. Traders begin by buying 1 Lot ($100,000) of currencies. If they were to buy 2 Lots ($200,000) the risk and reward will double. Most inexperienced traders begin to fear the markets at this point because they haven’t learned to tame their emotions. In reality each trade is exactly the same as if you were trading 1 Lot – they fail to realize that FOREX trading is about winning PIPs and not winning money (money will be the result of your PIP wins).

The Experienced Trader can easily grab 50 PIPs on each trade. This is worth $500 for buying 1 Lot. By buying 10 Lots (outlay $10,000 for own $1 Million Dollars) his 50 PIPs are now worth 500 PIPs ($5,000). I know of traders that buy 50 Lots – his 50 PIPs are worth 2,500 PIPs ($25,000). Do you see the mathematics? Same Trade. Different Returns.

The FOREX market is extremely lucrative. Every day about $1.9 Trillion Dollars are exchanged across the FOREX Market. The US Stock Market will typically trade around $100 Million Dollars per day. This makes the FOREX 20 times bigger than the Stock Market (and it continues to grow exponentially year on year). The potential to realize profits and wealth in FOREX markets is huge – that is why Warren Buffet and Bill Gates engage it.

I believe when you start trading the FOREX you will never trade traditional stocks, commodities or bonds again.

Start small and build up.

Safe Acne Medication During Pregnancy for Healthy Skin

The best time to research safe acne medication during pregnancy is before you’re pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant. Obviously, you can’t control the unexpected and planning isn’t always exact. But it helps to be prepared so you can avoid using harmful medications.

Some medications still linger in the body even after prescriptions have ended. This is important for expecting mothers to know since the greatest risk to a baby is during the first month or two. This is the stage when his or her organs are still forming.

Many women are uncertain what acne treatments are pregnancy safe. Make sure you discuss all medications with your doctor before using anything.

Safe Medication During Pregnancy for Acne

Acne medications considered safe for expecting mothers include erythromiycin, clindamycin, azelaic acid, and oral contraceptive pills.

Erythromycin and clindamycin can be used in both topical creams and oral prescriptives. The oral forms of these are antibiotics for severe acne. Since bacteria are able to build resistance to antibiotics, however, erythromycin and clindamycin, though safe, may not be very effective.

Azelaic Acid (Azelex, Finacea, Finevin) is a topical cream for moderate acne with antibacterial properties. There is little risk to the fetus, but there haven’t been any human studies to provide any useful information.

Despite general belief that oral contraceptive pills for acne will harm the baby if continued, there is no evidence showing women to be at a higher risk for defects.

Unsafe Medication During Pregnancy for Acne

Acne medications to avoid during pregnancy include topical and oral retinoids, various antibiotics, and other prescription medicines.

Topical Retinoids like tretinoin and adapalene are derived from Vitamin A and should be avoided during pregnancy. Tretinoin is related to isotretinoin (accutane). There is risk of these ingredients being absorbed into the skin and bloodstream and causing birth defects.

Oral retinoinds like isotretinoin (accutane, roaccutane) are extremely dangerous and should be avoided like the plague during pregnancy. Isotretinoin is commonly used to treat cystic acne. It is banned during pregnancy because it causes malformations to the fetus. Besides a slew of fetal defects, this drug increases the chance of miscarriage and infant death.

If you find out you are pregnant and on this drug, stop taking the drug immediately. If you’re trying to get pregnant, you should stop the drug a month before you start, as recommended by the Organization of Teratology Information Services (OTIS).

Oral Antibiotics

As a general rule of thumb, oral antibiotics are generally not safe medication during pregnancy, with the exception of oral erythromycin.

Both tetracycline (Sumycin, Achromycin V) and Doxycycline and Minocycline are oral antibiotics for acne that are frequently prescribed for acne. However, they should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding because of the risk of interfering with bone growth in fetuses.

Other Prescription Medication

Sodium Sulfacetamide is a topical anti-infective medication used to treat acne and seborrheic skin conditions. If taken orally it can affect the fetus. Topically, it likely won’t harm the fetus, but its risk in pregnancy is unknown.

Balancing Your Diet Adding Enzymes Vitamins and Minerals

Filed under:World Of Nutrition — posted on @ 2:16 pm

A balanced diet should be composed of a variety of raw vegetables. Emphasizing the fact that the vegetables should be organic or the best of what is available. A variety of vegetables assure the proper enzymes, vitamins and minerals.

Juices are the best way to reach the full amount of enzymes, vitamins and minerals for the body’s daily uses. Enzymes are the key elements of nourishment to the body. The enzymes enable the body to digest food and absorb it into the blood. For example, some enzymes break down the protein, carbohydrate and fat molecules of foods into smaller molecules; others assist in passing these molecules from the intestines to the bloodstream and yet, there are others using the molecules to build structures of cellular constituents. The enzymes are in the seeds, the sprouting part of the plant.

Replenishment is the law of life; if we do not eat we die. Eating the wrong foods and not replenishing enzymes, vitamins and minerals shorten life and one could suffer along the way.
There are some diseases, such as albinism, lack of normal pigmentation in the skin and hair of a person, animal or coloration of a plant, result from an enzyme deficiency. It is necessary to use a trustworthy supplement to replenish enzymes and nutrients.

Without knowing how fresh-raw vegetables and fruit juices work in the body, one would think why not eat the vegetables and fruits instead of juicing. Solid foods require digesting and with juices, the body will not need to digest. Nourishment gets to the cells and body tissues quickly.

There is no nourishment in fiber. Eating solid foods cause the body hours to process. Extracting juice and setting the fiber aside for later use, the body can receive nourishment immediately and generate energy. Enzymes are responsible for storage and release of energy.

Fiber is required even though there are no nutrients, when eaten, raw the fiber acts as a broom in the intestines, sweeping it clean. When food is cooked, fiber acts as a mop swabbing the intestines leaving residue causing a build up. The colon becomes sluggish, constipation, inflammation of colon, and other disturbances can occur.

Before starting, different food regiments consult a health care professional.

Juicing vegetables and fruits gives the body an avenue to digest and assimilate nutritional enzymes. The digestive system uses little energy because juice requires minimum digestion, saving energy. After a large meal, the body slows down, because the energy is used to process the meal.

Raw vegetable juices are necessary as a supplement to every diet. A raw food regiment without sufficient quantity and variety can be equally deficient as cooked foods. A fresh raw variety of organic vegetables supply the body with amino acids, minerals, salts, enzymes, and vitamins. The quality of vegetables has a bearing on the results.

How To Build Up your skinny calves

IF YOU are a bodybuilder you now doubt know how stubborn your
calves are to build. Because of all the training that the calves
receive on a daily basis, such as walking, running or even
standing, the calves are especially tough and stubborn to grow,
so the solution according to most experts is as follows:
“bombard them with more training and more work”

I am here to tell you that this is Wrong! Wrong ! wrong!

Here is some common sense that most “experts forget” to analyze,
you see if the calves are already over worked by daily activity
, what is the rational in going to the gym and performing more
work?

Wouldn’t all that “extra exercise” make the situation
worse…and send them into a state of over training with the end
result that you make zero gains in your calf’s?

The solution is not more work but harder work! This means you
actually should train your calves less and more intensely

Walking and running are low intensity exercises for the calf
muscles, and performing 20 sets in the gym for calves is also a
low intensity workout for the calves…

To try to build your calve muscles with high rep -low intensity
training is like trying to put out a fire with gas….it is
nonsensical…

Your Solution! Pick the donkey calf raise exercise and perform
no more than one set of this calf exercise, use heavy weights
and use perfect form, using an absolute full range of motion,
making sure you take the set to full positive failure, which is
the point in a set where completing another repetition is
impossible… That is it! And you may ask! What is the ideal
number of sets to perform? Just one How many exercises? Just
one! How often should you train your calves no more than once a
week…once every two weeks is even better it is that simple
folks…try it and see it work!

How to Podcast? An Introduction to Podcasting

How to Podcast? An Introduction to Podcasting

Podcasting is the newest craze on the internet and it continues
to expand on a daily basis. Former MTV host Adam Curry and
software developer Dave Winer are credited with developing
podcasting. Curry wrote a program called iPodder which allowed
him to automatically download internet radio broadcasts to his
iPod and Winer was instrumental in promoting RSS. (Really Simple
Syndication).

What is RSS? RSS allows people the ability to subscribe to their
favorite blog or podcast and the information can be
automatically downloaded to their computer. Subsequently, Curry
and Winer devised a way to send audio files through RSS
feeds.

The term Podcasting comes from “iPod” and “Broadcasting”.
However, you don’t need an iPod in order to record or listen to
a podcast. Anyone with a computer or mp3 player can listen to a
podcast.

>From radio talk show hosts Al Franken to Rush Limbaugh,
traditional radio is embracing podcasting. In addition, talk
show host Sean Hannity and NPR (National Public Radio) are
offering their shows in the form of a podcast.

Television is also welcoming podcasting. ABC News, CBS “60
Minutes”, TV Guide and Ebert/Roeper Movie Reviews are all
available through podcasts.

What is Podcasting? Podcasting is an audio file that you create
on your computer and then upload it to the internet so other
people can hear it. All you need is a computer, microphone and
voice-editing program.

Anyone can podcast. It is perfect for women, men, students,
work-at-home-Moms and seniors. If you have something to say,
podcasting is a great way to accomplish this goal.

Do you have a favorite hobby that you would like to share with
others? Are you a business owner who would like to increase
customers? Have you ever dreamed of being your own talk show
host or disc jockey? With podcasting, all of the above things
are possible.

You could have your very own podcast up and running today.

What do you need?

1. A Microphone

You will need a microphone for your computer so that you can
record your show. You can purchase a decent microphone at any
computer store or Radio Shack. (http://www.radioshack.com).<
/p>

2. A Voice-Editing Program

Voice-editing programs allow you to record and edit your show.
There are two free programs on the internet that you can use.
One is called Wavepad (http://www.nch.com.au/wavepa
d) and the other one is called Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforg
e.net).

3. Upload Show to Website or Hosting Company

After your show is recorded, you will need to upload it to the
internet. You can either put it on your website or you can use
one of the many hosting companies. Podblaze.com (http://www.podblaze.com) is
one company where you can host your podcast.

As you can see, podcasting is very easy to start. We are at the
beginning of this roller coaster ride that will hit astronomical
proportions as time goes on.

The only way to decide if podcasting is for you is to start.
Take the first step and see how you like it.
