An Introduction To Spam Filters

Using spam filters is another very effective way of combating spam or junk mail. These programs use some keywords like ‘guaranteed’, ‘free’, etc and block any email with those words in them. But this has the disadvantage of sometimes blocking even important mails from your contacts and preventing those senders from sending mails to your address again. The way out is to use add-on spam filters which allow you to control the content that should be allowed into your inbox. This will save you a lot of time and energy as you no longer will have go through each and every email before identifying it as spam and eliminating it.

Spam filters can be installed on any computer system and aim at filtering junk and getting only relevant information to the user.

Setting up a simple spam filter can be very easy. Identify the section ‘filters’ in your email program and create a new filter. Lay down the rules or filter conditions for the new folder. These can be the parameters under which an email would be marked as spam and deleted from your inbox. If you prefer to look at the filtered mail before deleting it, you can choose the option to move it to another folder once it is filtered. Once you save the changes you have made in the new filter, it will be active.

You have a new variety of spam filters in the market now which are called ‘smarter filters’. While these fight and prevent spam very effectively, setting it up is a very complex process and is recommended only for technical experts.

New generation spam filters are different from traditional ones in that they go in for statistical data rather features of spam. These filters decide on spam by analyzing the entire email and comparing it with other already identified spam mails. The error margin for these filters is almost zero as more than 99% of scams are identified and eliminated through this method.

Old Time Radio on your MP3 Player

For those of us that are fans of Old Time Radio (OTR), until recently there were very few options to listen to these classic programs. To listen to them, you would have to use a PC or laptop. This was not very portable or convenient. Personally, I like to listen to the shows at night before I go to sleep, but my computer is nowhere near my bedroom.

With the recent proliferation of CD and memory based MP3 players, a new option has emerged to listen to our favorite classical radio programs. These tiny devices can not only be used to listen to music, but can now be used to listen to Old Time Radio shows. As many of the OTR shows are recorded at low bit rates and frequencies, you can typically load several hundred hours of shows onto a single CD. If you are using a memory based MP3 player, even a 64 mb player will hold several half-hour shows.

Of course, not everything is perfect with OTR shows. As I mentioned earlier, because of the age of these programs (poor recording quality, mono audio, etc…) they are typically recorded at low bit rates and low frequencies. Many of the newer MP3 players have no problem handling these formats, but not all. If you find you’re player can’t handle a OTR program, you will need to re-encode the show at a higher frequency (e.g. 44 kHz) and bit rate. There are several freeware programs available that allow you do to this. If you have not yet purchased an MP3 player, ensure that it is capable of playing low bit rate (e.g. 32 kbps) and low frequency (e.g. 22 kHz) MP3 encoded files. My first CD MP3 player could only handle 44 kHz frequency encoded files, and I always found it cumbersome to have to re-encode files before being able to listen to them on my player.

As a fan of OTR, you’ll no doubt be aware that there are literally thousands of sites on the internet that offer free downloads of almost every show imaginable. Most of these shows have had there copyrights expire, and are now in the public domain, free for you to download and enjoy. For those of you that would like complete collections of MP3 shows, many sites offer CD’s and DVD’s packed full of OTR MP3 files. The fees that are charged are quite reasonable, considering that the material being packaged is in the public domain.

Another source of OTR shows are on the various P2P (Peer to Peer) file sharing networks. I won’t name any of them here, as there are many available. Using your P2P application, a simple search of “OTR” will typically bring you a listing of thousands of files. The greatest thing about using P2P applications for this is that you don’t have to worry about the RIIA coming after you for downloading copyrighted material. All these programs are free to copy and share as much as you want.

Dragnet never sounded so good!

How to Heal from a Painful Divorce

Filed under:Life Of Relationships — posted on @ 5:53 pm

You probably thought your thought your life and your marriage were going along quite well. Yes, there were challenges and difficulties, but you really believed the good outweighed the bad. Through the ups and downs you hung in, hoping in time that your partner would see the light and decide to treat you with love and respect. You hoped in time that you would be able to live the dreams that you held precious in your heart of hearts.

Then came the ugly word DIVORCE. You were shocked! You cried. You pleaded. You begged for another chance, but the answer was still NO. Divorce papers were served. You were left picking up the pieces of a life you thought you shared.

So, now it’s time to go forward. You read magazine articles, you gather books, you talk to your family and friends, you find a therapist, you join a support group and you buy new clothes. Through it all you may feel empty and alone, sometimes worthless, sometimes angry, sometimes scared of the future.

You find yourself wondering, “What does it take to really heal?” As a psychotherapist, I deal with people every day who are going through emotional pain like yours. I’m writing these healing steps for you, because I want you to know that the choices you make in this healing process will literally determine the quality of your future life.

1. Give yourself permission to grieve. Going through divorce is like grieving the death of your relationship, your dreams and your future together. Let yourself really feel the emotional pain and move through it naturally by journaling about your feelings and crying the tears that need to be cried.

2. Hold on to your intention to heal, forgive, and move forward. Divorce can be very painful for a time, but having the intention to forgive and move forward helps you to learn what you need to learn and start over in a new way, instead of being angry and bitter for the rest of your life! Remember that your divorce could be the best thing that ever happened to you if you choose to use it as an opportunity for emotional healing and personal growth.

3. Create a healthy support system of true friends who support your personal growth through this experience. Who you choose as friends at this time could easily make the difference between staying stuck in the anger and pain for the rest of your life or moving forward to create a whole new life for yourself! If you want a positive future, choose friends who help you grow!

The 7 Rules of Credit Card Balance Transfer

The 7 Rules of Credit Card Balance Transfer

Credit card balance transfer is a great way of consolidating your credit card debt, and also finding a way of avoiding the terrible burden that debt can bring. Transfer offers are in high demand and many credit card issuers highlight their balance transfer features up front as part of their overall advertising package. These days the credit card companies are in heavy competition with each other to get your business.

But have you ever considered the dream ticket of always having an interest free credit card at all times, no matter what the circumstances? Well here is a check list of seven things you must do in order to get the best out of it.

1. Always make sure that your credit card balance transfers are carried out on time and with no overlap periods from one card to the next, which will cost you money in nasty interest charges. Make allowances for delays in the post when notifying banks and credit card companies by mail, and also note that different banks will move at different speeds when responding to requests.

2. Make sure that 0 balance transfer credit card offers are always current and available at the time you apply. There’s no point in making a mental note of an offer and then applying for it after it has expired.

3. Interest free balance transfer credit cards must be exactly that; be careful and look out for any hidden charges in the small print. A 0 APR credit card should be exactly what it says it is.

4. The type of card to transfer balances from is crucial. Store cards tend to have a higher rate of APR than normal credit cards, so consider transferring all these balances on one or more low interest card. You can end up saving a substantial amount of money. Proper use of the credit card balance transfer feature can be useful and convenient, and a vital way of avoiding credit card debt.

5. Trust your source. A low interest credit card or 0 interest credit card should be easy to identify, preferably from a source where you are able to make comparisons between different types of card. Ideally you should deal with a source which is impartial and which does not promote one credit card or bank over another. Also, your source should provide easy to read and understand comparative charts to help you make such decisions swiftly, without undue pressure, and without any fear of being misled.

6. Keep a note of the exact date of when your 0 interest period finishes, and apply for your new credit card balance transfer at least two weeks before that date.

7. Try and ensure that your interest free credit card balance transfer facility is flexible and quick. At present it is the norm to put details of your credit balance transfers in writing at the time of application. Bear in mind that both parties need to know what is going on at the same time. Make it easy for everyone, including yourself. The 7 Rules of Credit Card Balance Transfer

Minimoto Rocket Key Fitting Instructions

Filed under:ATBs, MTBs, etc. — posted on @ 4:22 pm

Minimotos are fast becoming very popular for leisure riding and also for competitive racing use. There has been a marked move towards improving the performance and power characteristics of these miniature racing machines. One such easy way to enhance the performance of your minimoto is to fit a rocket key. The minimoto rocket key is designed with a 10 degree offset and is a direct replacement for the standard straight cut item. Here are the easy to follow instructions for rocket key fitment:

Fitting a minimoto rocket key

1) Firstly remove the pull start unit from the right side of the minimoto engine, which is held in place by 3 hexagonal head screws and 1 bolt attachment to the cylinder head area.

2) On removing the pull start unit the flywheel will be exposed. The flywheel is retained with a 8mm bolt in the centre. Remove the 8mm bolt with a socket and wrench. In order to stop the flywheel rotating whilst undoing the bolt wedge an Allen key in between one of the flywheel fins and lodge it against the footrest support bar.

3) Once the retaing bolt has been removed, the flywheel can be extracted. There are 2 available methods of extraction.

Method 1 - There are two threaded holes in the flywheel, screw 2 long M6 threaded bolts into these 2 holes and turn evenly in a clockwise direction to prise off the flywheel.

Method 2 - Use a purpose made flywheel puller.

4) On removal of the flywheel, the stock key can now be observed resting in its machined slot in the crankshaft end. Using a small pick simply prise the stock key from its slot.

5) Install the new minimoto rocket key in the vacated slot. Note that the 10 degree offset of the new rocket key should point to the right (towards the front of the machine).

6) Once the rocket key has been fitted in its slot, refit the flywheel and secure with its retaining bolt. It is a good idea at this stage to use some thread locking compound on the retaining bolt. Refit the pull start unit and secure.

Now experience and enjoy the power gains from your newly fitted minimoto rocket key.

How To Test The Body Of Your Sales Copy For Weaknesses

How To Test The Body Of Your Sales Copy For Weaknesses

by Rich Hamilton, Jr http://www.ElitesMarketing.com

Your sales copy is the life source of your business. If your
sales copy isn’t pulling in a decent conservation rate, then
your business is suffering.

In this article, we are going to go over an effective way to
test the body of your sales copy for weaknesses. If there are
any, you will be able to pinpoint exactly where they are. Once
you are able to identify the weaknesses in the body of your
sales copy, then you will know where to make the necessary
improvements and workout the weak areas of your sales copy.

How It Works

The only way to know if the body of your sales copy is weak is
to test it. The conventional way of testing your sales copy is
to have multiple copies and test them individually, or you can
use software like split hit, which will divide your traffic up
and send it to multiple sale copies at once.

Eventually you will be able to determine which sales copy pulls
more, but you won’t know exactly where the weaknesses are in
your other sales copies. Especially, if you have a long sales
copy. Moreover, conventional ways of testing your sales copy
will not identify where the weakness actually is, until now.

A good sales copy will have several links throughout the body of
it, to display examples and ordering purposes. Since the links
are already in the body of your sales copy, you can take
advantage of them by tracking all of the links. Why? By tracking
the links you will know what your visitors are clicking on and
what they’re not. By using this technique you will know
precisely where your weak spots are, so all you’ll have to do is
tweak them.

Applying It To The Body Of Your Sales Copy

Applying this technique to the body of your sales copy is very
simple, but first you will need to have a dependable tracking
system. If you do not have a dependable tracking system, then I
recommend that you use Adtrackz. Once you have a dependable
tracking system, then you want to track every link on your sales
copy. You want to have your links set up in a numerical order,
such as, link 1, link 2, link 3, etc. That way you have your
links set up in an organized fashion, making them easier to
recognize.

If you don’t have this technique set up correctly, it won’t do
you any good, that’s why your links need to be in numerical
order. Let me give you an example, let’s say that you are
receiving clicks on your links in the body of your sales copy up
to link 4. Then, all you have to do is tweak your sales copy
after link 4, because you already know you had your visitor’s
attention up to link 4. In this case, you know what your
weakness is and that is after link 3, because your visitors
haven’t been clicking on link 4. So, link 4 is the best place to
start making some improvements and test it again.

Let me give you another example, so that you can clearly
understand this technique. Going back to the previous example,
let’s say your visitors where not clicking on link 4, but where
clicking on links 5 & 6. In this case, if the number of clicks
on link 3 are equal or close to the number of clicks on links 5
& 6, then you will find that the weakness will be after link 6.
If you are wondering why your visitors are not clicking through
link 4 it is, because the link may not be captivating enough for
them.

If you find that your visitors are not clicking on your first
few links, than it safe to assume one of two things. One is,
your headline, sub-headline, and/or opening statement may be
weak. You probably haven’t grabbed your visitor’s attention or
established their interest enough by compel them to read on. The
other is, the traffic going to your web site is untargeted,
therefore, you should concentrate on generating traffic that is
more targeted.

Test And Repeat The Process

Once you are able to identify where the weakness is, then all
you have to do is tweak it and test it. Testing is the only way
to know if the changes you have made have increased or decreased
your visitors clicking patterns. In other words, did your
visitors clicking patterns increase by surpassing the previous
link number they have been clicking on, or did the click
throughs decrease because the traffic didn’t click trough beyond
the previous link number.

After you are able to determined that the changes you have made
have either increased or decreased the clicking patterns of your
visitors. You will need to repeat the complete process until you
have a strong click through rate through the entire body of your
sales copy.

Self Esteem: You Are Not Who You Think You Are

David sat in front of me at one of my five-day intensive workshops. A
successful businessman with a wife and two grown children, David
believed that he was not good enough.

“I’m insufficient,” he said. “I’m inadequate.”

I looked at this kind man and felt deep sadness for him. He did not know
who he was.

“Why do you believe that?” I asked.

“I didn’t do well in school, and I’ve made lots of mistakes in my life.”

“So you are basing your worth on your performance, right?”

“Of course.”

David could not conceive of any other way of defining his worth other
than through his performance – which he never saw as good enough.

I asked David to look inside – at the essence of himself - and tell me
what he sees. All he saw was emptiness.

“David, please close your eyes. Now imagine a wonderful being who
loves you very much. Who comes to mind?”

“My grandfather. He died when I was young, but he really loved me.”

“Good. Now imagine that you are seeing yourself through the eyes of
your grandfather. What does your grandfather see when he looks at
you?”

“He sees a bright and creative little boy, who is very kind and caring. A
loving little boy. A little boy who is funny and likes to laugh, and likes to
make other people laugh.”

“Is there anything wrong with this little boy? Anything inadequate or
insufficient?”

“Oh no! He is a wonderful little boy.”

“David, this is who you really are. You are not your performance. Your
performance will come and go and at some point you might retire and
not perform at all. Yet that does not mean that you are, therefore,
worthless. Your worth is in who you are, not in what you do. Your worth
in intrinsic.”

David realized that, because of his highly critical and rejecting parents,
he had always been trying to prove himself and always came up short in
their eyes. As a result of seeing himself as unworthy and inadequate, he
did not treat himself well. He treated himself the way his parents had
treated him – with criticism and neglect. He was always trying to take
care of everyone else, but rarely thought about taking care of himself.
He was constantly abandoning himself emotionally, just as he had been
emotionally abandoned by his parents.

“David, if you chose to see yourself as your grandfather saw you rather
than how your parents saw you, how would you feel about yourself and
how would you treat yourself?”

“I’ve just been thinking about that. I just realized that I treat my dog better
than I treat myself! I would never judge my dog the way I judge myself.”

“So what would you do differently if you saw yourself the way your
grandfather sees you?”

“I would stop judging myself as insufficient and inadequate. I’m a really
good person. I am not at all insufficient or inadequate as a person. And I
choose my friends based on who they are as people – not on their
performance. So I obviously value the very qualities that I possess!”

“What else would you do if you really valued who you are?”

“I would listen to my own feelings and take care of my own needs
instead of taking care of everyone else’s feelings and needs. I would no
longer see it as selfish to take care of myself instead of taking care of
everyone else. I would be at least as attentive to myself as I am to my
dog!”

David was glowing. He was discovering who he really is, not who he
thought he was.

People often think that their worth – who they really are – is based on
looks and performance. Yet these qualities are transitory. What is real
and eternal is who you are in your heart and soul. If you shift your
definition of your worth from outer to inner, you will stop trying to prove
yourself. You will know that you are already a beautiful being, totally
deserving of love.

Pre-Interview Coaching Can Help You Get That Dream Job

Filed under:House Of Self Improvement — posted on @ 12:42 pm

Most of us find interviews challenging. For some of us, our nerves get the better of us and prevent us from making a good impression. If we do not perform as well as we wanted and perhaps receive a number of rejections, this negative experience of interviews creates what is called a ‘negative anchor’ which makes it highly likely that nerves will again take over at the next interview situation.

In the worst cases this means that people are not able to get a better job and realise more of their potential, not because they lack the capability but simply because they are in the wrong state and cannot control it. They start to think of themselves as ‘no good’ generally and may avoid interviews completely.

It is not easy to manage this state on our own. It is useful to have an objective outsider to refocus you, remind you what your capabilities really are, and help you approach the interview with a more positive image of yourself. This is what happens in pre-interview coaching.

It will get to the root cause of the problems you have been experiencing and help you to reframe it into something more positive. You will learn about your motivation in going for the job. Coaching will help you to ‘sell yourself’ by clarifying your abilities and the reasons you want the job. It will cover beforehand any challenging questions that might throw you on the day, and help you to come up with suitable questions to ask about the company and the post.

Often nervous candidates have forgotten that the occasion is as much for you to find out more, as it is for the company to find out about you! This is the time to ask the interviewers questions which will let you know whether or not the job fits in with your overall purpose for your life. Does the company share your values and beliefs? Is it the right environment for you to work in?

The benefits of pre-interview coaching are that you will feel much more positive about the interview situation, and approach it with increased confidence and fewer nerves. You will present yourself in the best possible light, and actually have a competitive advantage, in that you will have prepared much more thoroughly than the other candidates are likely to have done! You may find, like some of my clients, that you actually enjoy the process which was once such an ordeal!

I find that typically I spend about 3 hours with pre-interview clients, in 2 sessions of about 1 and a half hours each, at a cost of about £300 sterling. You will find that you quickly get a return on this investment as you take control of your life and your career, and find a job which is fulfilling both personally and financially.

Remove Those Annoying Goooooogle Ads

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the “goooooogle” adwords are showing up almost everywhere?

It seems like almost everyone has decided to put adwords on their websites, in the hope of earning some extra cash.

Of course, I find these (and other) embedded ads very irritating and distracting. I’m sure I’m not the only one that has gone to some heavily advertised websites, and not know where to click… it seems like most ads on the page take you to other sites, with your click paying someone.

A quick search on the internet turns up a lot of popup ad blockers, but very little is said about the ads that are built-in to web pages.

Well, I have found a quite effective way to stop them from appearing, which also makes many web pages much more readable.

The answer I have found, is in a browser called Maxthon ( http://www.maxthon.com ).

Although many people look at maxthon as a minor competitor to IE, Opera & Firefox, I see it more as an overlay for Internet Explorer, which gives IE a lot more functionality, with virtually none of the incompatibilities of a non-IE browser.

The reason is that under the covers, Maxthon is actually Internet Explorer, but it has tabbed browsing, RSS support, supports skins & plugins, and most importantly: it can remove popup and inline adverts using a feature called adhunter.

Adhunter has a host of pre-configured filters that can block the vast majority of ads.

The types of ads blocked by adhunter fall into 6 categories:

1) The popup blacklist (uses a configurable builtin list of keywords used by adverts)
2) Auto popup blocker (blocks auto popups, unless specifically allowed)
3) Web ads blocker (also known as the content filter). Blocks ads builtin to a webpage, eg: google adwords
4) Web dialog blocker (blocks web dialogs… this also stops a lot of legitimate stuff)
5) Float ad blocker (blocks those annoying ads that float on top of the page you want to view)
6) ActiveX blocker (blocks ads that use activeX to display windows).

I usually enable the first 3 categories, but I also configure the “whitelist” or exceptions list, so that adhunter doesn’t block any “https” pages, and any other sites that I am familiar with (eg my exceptions list for the content filter looks something like this:

https://*
http://www.ourbrisbane.com/*

This will allow ads from all https sites & everything within the www.ourbrisbane.com domain.

Of course any site that doesn’t look right, might need to be added to the exception list.

Likewise any ads & popups that are not caught by the default filters can quickly be added by typing CTRL-Q

For all those annoying flash adverts, Maxthon ships with an external “plugin” that allows you to block or save flash ads/images. This is a slightly more manual way that the bult-in adhunter filters, but works well with sites that you visit regularly.
