Exercises to Improve Your Health, Energy, Digestion, and Your Love of Life!

Did the title of this article catch your attention? I hope so. Most of us don’t mind finding out new ways to feel better and have more energy. Yet, I’m afraid I’m not going to teach you anything that you don’t already know.

Some people talk about the “benefits” of exercising, such as increasing blood flow
to your brain and major organs, improving digestion, reducing stress, increasing
alertness, and boosting your immune system. That’s a way to look at it.

Another way is that since our bodies are meant to move everyday, so it’s not that
exercises brings us any “benefits” - this should be our natural state - but it’s more
that not exercising actually has negative consequences!

According to an article published in the Health & Fitness sections of the About.com
Site, skipping exercise for two days in a row has bad effects on health.

It makes sense that we’re meant to live an active life. Being sedentary was not the
norm for human beings, even in the Western world, until just a few decades ago.

If you want better health, improved digestion, more energy and love of life, make a
commitment to exercise EVERY SINGLE DAY, even if it’s just to go out for a 30-
minute walk.

Personally, I never had a session of exercise - biking, a long walk, hiking, yoga,
weight lifting, or running - that I regretted. Even though I might not have felt like
doing it when I started, I never thought to myself, “Jeez, I shouldn’t have gone for
that bike ride” or “That was such a bad idea to take that yoga class!”

***Exercise and Hunger***

When you exercise everyday, you will awaken your “true hunger.” If you’ve read my
book “The Raw Secrets,” (http://www.therawsecrets.com) you know the importance
of eating when you are truly hungry.

We know for example that hunger is widely recognized as a sign of health. Lack of
appetite is also widely recognized as a sign of ill health.

Now, many of you have written to ask about this true hunger concept. Some people
say that if they only eat when they are truly hungry, they hardly eat anything at all!
Not even enough to sustain them.

The key to awaken this lost sense of hunger is to exercise everyday.

***Walking More for Health***

I’m personally trying to implement a new habit in my life. Every morning after I wake
up, I go for a walk. While this is not the only exercise I try to get, it is a great way to
start the day.

Otherwise, what I normally do is either start working immediately or check my e-
mails. Not a good thing. With the morning walk, it gives me time to wake up, breathe
some fresh air, get some exercise, meditate (or something like it), and if I want I can
listen to audio-books on my iPod while walking.

Are there many health benefits to walking? Yes, but those are many health benefits
of exercising in general. A 1-hour brisk walk with a few hills burns around 300
calories, so as many as a 30 minute jog.

Walk an exercise most people can do and the joys of walking are numerous.
Breathing fresh air, taking time to see new places, beautiful surroundings, etc. It’s
also an exercise most people can do or start doing.

If one day you have absolutely no desire to exercise, go for a 1-hour walk. You’ll
feel much better afterwards.

A dog needs to walk everyday or else it’s not going to stay healthy. Isn’t it the same
for us?

***Rebounding Exercises for Health***

What exercises can you do on a rainy day? Some people like to go jog in the rain,
the mud and the cold. They are the brave ones. I like to watch them from my
window. But seriously, that’s not my style.

What can you do instead? I found a great workout I can do inside on a rainy do (or
when it’s too cold to go outside). It’s rebounding, a way to exercise that is complete
and has several health benefits.

I won’t talk about the so-called benefits of “cellular exercise.” Because of the up-
and-down movement of rebounding, apparently the lymph gets moving and this
helps to detoxify and slow-down aging. I’m not sure if this is true, but it sounds
great.

For me, the real benefits of rebounding is that it’s something you can do inside on a
rainy day. Plus, it can be a great cardio-endurance-toning workout if you know what
to do with the rebounder.

So two tips for rebounding:

1- Get a good rebounder. Not those cheap ones at Walmart. Get something that will
last and will give you a real bound. My rebounder is a NEEDAK that I got on E-bay.

2- Get a DVD workout for rebounder. Most people have no idea what to do with
their rebounder. I had one for years and the only thing I was doing with it was to
jump up and down once in a while, and it got boring. Since then, I got a great DVD
which as several workouts, one which is 45 minute long and is great for many
aspects of fitness. You can get it from Urban Rebounding, a company that also sells
rebounders.

***The Magic of Calisthenics***

Everybody should learn a series of body-weight exercise. Not only are they
something you can do anywhere (even when traveling), but they are also great to
build strength and endurance.

Calisthenics include pushups, pullups, squats, lunges, and so on, including the
thousands of variation on each exercise that can allow you to get the results that
you want (strength training or endurance).

In a future article, I will give you a routine of body-weight exercise you can practice
anywhere to have a great workout at no cost.

***Multi-Tasking***

Finally, I’d like to add that doing cardio-vascular exercise or walking can be a
wonderful way to grow and learn. You can listen to recordings (either on a tape or
CD player or iPod) to learn languages, listen to audio books, and learn something
useful at the same time.

When I was studying German, Spanish and Portuguese, I was using every single
minute I could to listen to language learning methods, including during exercise
(but not during sleep!).

Now, I listen to audio books (I have a subscription to Audible - http://
www.audible.com) and learn about things that interest me. I listen to audio-books
when I’m on my bike, when I go for a walk, and of course when I drive. I listen to
music too, and sometimes I just look at the landscape.

Whether you use this exercise time to also learn and grow is entirely up to you. But
keep in mind that daily exercise in a health requirement - and also a great joy!

Setting The Date Of Your Party

One of the most important first tasks you have planning your
party is setting the date. Setting the best possible date sounds
easier than it is. Before you make your decision, there are many
events and other important dates to consider. Your party is only
as good as the people you invite, so you need to make sure you
come up with a date that works for most of them.

You have to invite your guest early enough to make sure they
have enough time to prepare. Make sure you invite people at
least three or four weeks prior to the party. If you call
somebody a day before the party, they may not be able to attend
due to other engagements. Also, inviting people to a party is
considered rude. Someone invited the last minute may think, you
invited him or her so late to avoid having him or her at the
party.

You should give your guest enough time, and you should give
yourself enough time too. You need to make sure you have time to
prepare. Because there are so many components to plan a great
party, be sure to give yourself enough time. Before setting the
date for your party, you should consider your friends and family
members’ schedules. Birthdays, graduations, vacations, and other
events may prevent people important to you attend your party.

It is best not to schedule your party on a Holiday, unless your
party is related to the Holiday itself. It makes sense to
schedule a big barbeque party for the 4th of July. But if you
think people you plan to invite to the party will be out of town
on your chosen date, you should reconsider the date of the
party.

The food is an essential part of any party, so carefully
consider it. Try to arrange more than one kind of food, so your
guest will have more than one option. Remember, what you like
may not be equally popular with your guest. It doesn’t hurt to
ask a few of the invited guest to see what kind of food they
like.

The Intricacies of a Compound Microscope

Filed under:Online Science Resources — posted on @ 8:37 pm

Have you ever used a compound microscope? Your first thought may be to answer "no" but chances are if you had Biology in high school or college that you have used a compound microscope. What do you remember about this microscope? You may remember what it looks like but can you recall how it worked? If not, this article is for you!

A compound microscope uses light to illuminate the sample or object so that you can see it with your eye. It has two lenses that are used in combination to give you a greater view of the sample or object. One lens is called the objective lens and the other is called the eyepiece lens. The one nearest the sample you are looking at is called the objective lens. This is the lens that sticks out at the bottom and is the one you can change the magnification with. The eyepiece lens is mounted in the microscope cylinder nearest your eye. The combination of these two lenses give you your magnified image and magnification abilities.

There are many uses for the compound microscope. It is an essential tool in the creation of medicines and cures for diseases. It is also used for research in the field of bacteria and other biology. The compound microscope is used to examine cells, bacteria, and other organisms. It is also widely used in teaching about the world around us in schools across the world.

Who made the first compound microscope? A Dutch spectacle maker noticed that when he put two lenses together that magnification was greatly increased. He may have been among one of the first creators but the beginning of the invention is commonly contributed to Galileo in 1610. Galileo had heard of lenses being used in combination and made an instrument with a focusing device. Anton van Leeuwenhoek, considered the father of microscopes, was working in a store that made magnifying glasses and created ways to increase the magnification by grinding smaller and more powerful lenses.

Then he began building microscopes and was among one of the first people to see bacteria and cells up close. Others have contributed to and upgraded the compound microscope to the modern version we have today. A modern compound microscope can magnify a sample or object up to two thousand times.

The compound microscope has enabled scientists to cure many diseases over the years. Without the invention of the compound microscope, many diseases such as smallpox, measles, and others would still be prevalent in our society today. Learning about cells and micro organisms using a compound microscope gives scientists the tools to cure disease and learn about the miracle of the human body.

Advertising on the Internet

Advertising is an attempt to disseminate information in order to promote products, services or ideas and affect a buyer-seller transaction. There are various mediums of advertisements and each medium has its own attributes. The advent of Internet and its growing penetration has enabled this medium to emerge as an important platform for advertisement. Since Internet users are well educated with higher levels of income, they are becoming a desired target for advertisers. Moreover, studies suggest that three-quarters of PC users are giving up some television time and that works in favour to the companies that are opting for this medium.
The various channels of Internet advertisements include Internet communities, chat rooms, e-mail, newsgroups, and kiosks. Television advertisements could broadly be channelised through cable and broadcast mediums. One of the basic differences between these two mediums of advertisement is that the Internet advertisements could be specifically targeted to a certain group. Television, in all respects has the advantage of reaching a broader audience and is the favourite medium for the prominent companies. Other differences between the two mediums as platforms for advertisement is that the Internet advertisements are frequently cheaper, could be updated any time with a minimum cost and these can use efficiently text, audio, graphics, and animation in comparison to television. The boom in high-speed Internet service has fuelled the growth of ‘rich media’ or multimedia advertisements that incorporate motion and sound. They include full-page ’screen stealer’ ads you cannot avoid, banner ads that expand when you slide your mouse over them, and tiny icons that zip from nowhere across your screen. The rich media ads are fuelling a recovery in the online advertising market, and may reflect a major step for the Internet in joining the mainstream media. The ads are now becoming more like those on television.

The advertisements of the two media provide in-depth, detailed information that suits their users, such as infomercials on cable television and click-through ads provided by the Internet. It happens that for most consumers, enough information for a product is a motive for trusting and buying a product. Both the media - television and the Internet offer instant information services and customers get a chance to not be bothered by a salesman as they walk into Best Buy looking for a commodity or consumer good. The basic difference between the two media on this point is that cable television advertisements are still under the control of cable television institution and advertisers for how much information they would like to offer due to the limited time arranged for each commercial. However, Internet users can take their time as long as they need to collect information if they are willing to pay for getting online.

But, it must be remembered that the effectiveness of advertisements of the two media depends on consumer’s needs and desires to buy. The selling of products on these two media becomes entertainment for people, not responsibility, such as cable television’s pay-per-view programming and home shopping channels. For the Internet there are the web sites that sell books, computer and CDs. It is not like the other media that force people to be exposed in a specific advertisement and buy a product they don’t even need.
Finally, the Internet advertisements, packed in funny or an enjoyable game could be displayed through the web but there is a possibility that it would never be showcased on television because of censors. For example, Mazda UK recently made an internet-only ad, called “Parking”, which it screened on its mazda2.co.uk site. This advertisement could not find its way on the television screen because it was against the censorship rule that states, “Vehicles should not be depicted in dangerous or unwise situations in a way that would encourage irresponsible driving”.

Banner advertisement is the most commonly used form of advertising on the Internet. These are graphical images that could be static, animated or rich media. These form of advertisements are very popular on the World Wide Web because through these advertisements, huge chunk of online traffic could be channellised to the advertiser’s web page. One of the other advantages of using banner advertisements is the convenience of getting them customized. Apart from increasing traffic to a web site and sales of the product or service, banner advertisement persuades people to remember the name of the advertised product or service. Banner advertisement can inform the prospective clients about the product or service.

Use a List-server to Distribute Your Newsletter

Filed under:Living With Publishers — posted on @ 9:40 am

———————————————————- Use a
List-server to Distribute Your Newsletter

By Stephen Bucaro

If you publish an e-newsletter or e-zine, you know that
administering your subscriber list is a big chore. To maintain
the list, you may be using an email program on your computer or
a CGI program on your server. One advantage to maintaining the
list yourself is that you know it is not being shared by anyone
else.

However, there are four good reasons why you should host your
list on a list-server.

1. People can subscribe or unsubscribe from your list
automatically with absolutely no work by you.

2. People often subscribe with an email alias or forwarded email
account. You send your newsletter to one address, then receive a
delivery failure or unsubscribe from an address not on your
list. You can’t delete it from your list.

3. People subscribe to the list and then forget that they
subscribed. They accuse you of spamming. This can’t be avoided
entirely, but if your list is hosted on a list-server, you can
respond by saying “all subscribes and unsubscribes are handled
automatically by the list server, you have no control of it.”

4. If you plan to sell advertising in your newsletter, most
advertisers and advertisement networks will require you to
verify your subscriber count. If you maintain the list yourself,
the only way you can do that is to share your list with them.
You don’t want to do that.

If your list is hosted on a list-server, the number of
subscribers is there for all to see, provided by an independent
third party.

Choosing a List-server

Many list-servers disappeared in the “.com” bust. The best one,
listbot, was bought by Microsoft. It is now called bCentral and
costs $30.00 per month. Being a list owner, it is your
responsibility to keep your list private. With the well
publicized ethical problems at Microsoft, I would not put my
subscriber list in their hands.

Most of the lists ended up on Yahoo. They are in the domain
http://groups.yahoo.com. I find yahoo groups very complicated to
configure. I also worry about Yahoo’s privacy policy. Yahoo
Group Help states, “If you use Groups, it is very likely that
other users will be able to see your email address.”

http://www.topica.com has the easiest to setup list-server.
However, it is primarily a group mailing list application that
must be configured correctly to perform the newsletter list
function. Topica’s privacy policy states, “The email addresses
of participants are partially obscured so they are not
obtainable by unauthorized visitors.”

Configuring the List-server

To make a list server function as a newsletter list requires
that you modify its default configuration. The following
configurations should be set.

1. List Type: Read-only Announcement list. Only the owner of the
list can post messages to the list.

2. Subscription: Does not require owner approval for people to
join the list.

3. Archive: Readable by subscribers only. If non-subscribers can
read the newsletter, why should anyone subscribe?

Using the List Server

Now all you have to do is post your newsletter to the list and
it will be delivered to all the subscribers. You will still be
required to deal with delivery failures. If the reason for the
delivery failure is because the email box no-longer exists, then
you should delete that address from your list immediately.

A delivery failure can also occur because the email box is too
full, or because the mail server is down. You should establish a
policy for dealing with delivery failures. You have three
choices.

1. Ignore them and let the number of messages returned because
of delivery failure grow to enormous size. Advertisers will not
use newsletters if they find out they are paying for a large
number of non-deliverable addresses.

2. Delete them immediately. If you do that, you may be removing
many subscribers who only have the temporary problems mentioned
above.

3. Keep a delivery failure address on your list until it fails
three times. After three consecutive delivery failures, it is
unlikely that the situation will clear up, so you may as well
delete the member.

If you want to publish a quality e-newsletter or e-zine, you
need to spend more time working on content and less time
administering the subscriber list. For this reason, you should
use a list-server application. But make sure that you are
comfortable with the operation of the list-server before you
commit your valuable subscriber list.

Blogging Bliss: Bloggers & News Sites to Marry Web Content

Web content for newspapers online has been limited to
repeating what paid staff writes for the print editions of
their papers or material coming from one or another of the wire services
to which the parent organization subscribes.

We’re all familiar with seeing Associated Press or Reuters
stories running in our local paper and posted online at
various news organizations. Imagine a news wire service for blogs which could
syndicate your blog to appear on online news sites. A new service called
BlogBurst has emerged to help bring blogging and news
together on the web sites of major media.

http://www.blogburst.com/

Blogburst makes the writings of a select group of bloggers
available to news organizations by aggregating the musings of
selected blog writers into a feed made available to major
papers. The news organizations can apparently choose from
among the topic areas and bloggers offered via the BlogBurst
feed.

Some bloggers have launched news commentary blogs with groups
of bloggers commenting on news. There already exist several
attempts to popularize what has become known as “Citizen
Journalism” by such notable groups as “We the Media and Dan
Gillmore’s Bayosphere which seems to have been taken over by
BackFence. Relevant links below:

http://wethemedia.oreilly.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen_journalism
http://www.bayosphere.com/blog/dan_gillmor/
http://sf.backfence.com/bayarea/index.cfm?mycomm=BA

What is often lacking for bloggers who provide commentary on the news is an
audience. Those experiments mentioned above have been available on small sites,
which are otherwise unknown to the world. Struggling to gain readers is the bane of
blogging, since people can’t read what they don’t know exists.

Some well known bloggers have found their audience through
writing compelling content and being discovered by major
media when they break their own news stories. Others gain
that audience through connections or through fame, but most
bloggers toil away daily for the pure love of a topic while
gathering small and loyal followings.

BlogBurst promises to make web content from the blogosphere
discoverable by the media by limiting the availability and
vetting the sources, so accuracy and truthfulness is
maintained and the blog can be trusted. It’s an interesting
experiment and may be the route to bloggers earning a living
from their blogs by gaining an audience they previously had
little access to - major newspaper web site visitors.

Since unknown bloggers appear to need the media in order to
spread the word (becoming well known in the process) and
newspaper web sites appear to want blogs associated with
their site, BlogBurst is filling that need. Since a lack of income
is what haunts many bloggers hoping to earn from their
commentary, BlogBurst will allow those bloggers to both reach
an audience and capitalize on their own traffic via their own
advertising, whether that is Google Adsense, Blogads, or some
other agreement with individual advertisers.

News sites have launched blogs written by volunteers, some
have offered staff journalists a blog, others have tried
allowing “Comments” from readers. But volunteers appear
unreliable, staffers have little incentive to blog without
pay and comment sections are subject to abuse by comment
spam. ZDNet is currently offering bloggers in popular
technology topic areas and is apparently providing payment
from advertising revenue generated by those blogs.

http://blogs.zdnet.com/

BlogBurst is taking an interesting approach by offering
online news organizations filtered and verified news
commentary from bloggers. Presumably, this content will be
available directly on the news sites, such as the
Washington Post, Gannet News sites, San Francisco
Chronicle and Houston Chronicle news sites.

BlogBurst is reviewing proposed blogs currently and will
announce the engagement in a live trial with major news sites
in May. Will the love of blogs by major media result in a
spring wedding? BlogBurst appears to be offering to serve as
minister to a marriage made in heaven. Stay tuned, to see
if this will be a long lasting marriage.

Effective Ways Of Getting the Best Rates for Your Credit Cards

Filed under:Hall Of Mathematics — posted on @ 8:30 am

How many times a day do you receive offers through email or phone for free credit cards with money back schemes, low introductory rates and other perks of credit cards? All banks and financial institutions vie for maximum customers by pouring umpteen perks to tempt you, the customer, in one way or the other.

Remember that a credit card is just a form of borrowing money that has to be paid later. However, it is better to choose a credit card with good rates to avoid ending up paying too much interest to the banks. Make it a point to compare credit card terms and fees before opening a credit or charge card account. Once you find the credit card that has an interest rate that best fits your needs and budget, you can then open an account with that bank.

The annual percentage rate is the measure of the cost of credit the bank offers and is expressed as a yearly rate. Make sure you are aware of this rate before accepting a credit card as some credit card plans have interest rates that change when other economic indicators change. This plan is called a variable rate program. In such a case, when you first get the credit card, you may be offered 5% interest, but in case of index changes, the interest rate may go up to 8%. This means you will later have to pay more interest with the increased interest rate! So confirm if the credit card offers a variable rate program or ‘fixed rate’ program where there is no change in the annual percentage rate, even when economic indicators change.

It is beneficial for you if the credit card you have has a ‘grace period’. This is the period where you can avoid finance charges by paying your balance before due date. This is because with a free period, you will be sent your bill at least 14 days before the due date, thus giving you enough time to pay. Check if the credit card charges annual membership or participation fees or any other costs like transaction fees. It is better to choose the credit card company offering the least ‘extra costs’! This is because the more extra costs there are, the more money you have to pay the company!

When applying for a credit card, it is better to first consider if the credit limit is up to your requirements. Then only is it beneficial for you to apply for the credit card. To get the best rate for your credit card, make sure you understand all terms and condition of the card before accepting it. This is to avoid any future misunderstandings and misconceptions with the credit card company.

Of course, the main point that is taken into consideration to get the best rate for your credit card is your credit score. The better the credit score you have, the better will be the rates the credit card company offers you! This is the reason it is always advisable to have, and maintain a good credit score!

PC Crash! How To Find The Best Data Recovery Consultant

Filed under:World Of Technology — posted on @ 8:26 am

Everyone’s PC crashes now and again. So what can you do after that dreaded crash? Hire a Data Recovery Consultant.

You wouldn’t let somebody throw away important documents or files of yours, would you? Well, don’t let your computer get away with that either. Even if your business has backup files, your data is still at risk of deletion. That is why it’s nice to have a Data Recovery Consultant on your side.

When your hard drive crashes, it can be a scary thing. What if you lose data you never had time to backup? What if you need that data to be recovered immediately? What if typical restoration procedures aren’t working? Accidents happen, but something like this is not as easy to shrug off as spilled milk. So before that dreaded PC crash, why not make a game plan? Personally restoring your hard drive data is not an ideal option but a Data Recovery firm or consultant can pull a “Hail Mary” for you.

Still not convinced you should put matters into other people’s hands? Well, simply put, there are compelling advantages to leaving repair up to a consultant. First, skilled experts are going to do a much better job; they have experience under their belts and will know about several different kinds of data loss and restoration. Not to mention, they have the proper tools, equipment and software devices required for repair – things you would have to invest in yourself otherwise. And if your data recovery needs are for a business, then there is the old adage “time is money” you may want to keep in mind. A consultant can save you time.

Avoid the risk of losing sensitive and important data and also avoid the headache of trying to restore that data by a deadline!

Hire a consultant.

But how do you go about finding a data recovery firm? A firm’s services can be expensive and the risk of data loss can still be high if you do not research a firm beforehand. Contact a service provider and find a convenient, but reputable company to turn to. A consultant may cost a lot more than sending your drive out to a firm, but at least repair can be on your own turf. Weigh the costs and benefits and decide what is best – either way, your data is probably safer in an expert’s hands and not your own.

The Internet is also a great way to find out about a firm’s personnel and services. Often you can even read recommendations by other clients. But don’t just research a firm from afar; go ahead and make time to have a chat with employees so you can be assured of their qualifications.

The Parable of the Touchstone

The Great Library of Alexandria once held the wisdom of the
ancient world. When it burned down, billions of invaluable
thoughts perished. One book, however, survived. Since it wasn’t
considered a valuable book, a poor man bought it for a few
coppers. He was not very literate and thought the book dull. The
only thing of interest to him was a thin strip of vellum.
Written on it was the secret known as the “Touchstone.”

The touchstone, the writing on the vellum strip explained, was a
small pebble with magical powers. The pebble could turn any
common metal into pure gold. Unfortunately, this pebble looked
exactly like any other on the shores of the Black Sea. But the
secret was that the touchstone would feel extraordinarily warm.
Ordinary pebbles, by contrast, were relatively cold.

In a matter of days after purchasing the book, the man had
hastily sold his few belongings. He used the money to buy some
simple supplies for his travel to the shores of the Black Sea.

He began testing pebbles on the first day he arrived. He devised
a simple but effective plan to avoid picking up the same pebble
over again. When he picked up a cold pebble, he would throw it
into the sea.

Years passed. Every day, he picked up pebbles and threw them
into the sea. He made his living by fishing and spent his nights
sleeping under his torn, damp blanket on the cold beach. With
each pebble that he threw into the sea, his hopes diminished.
One day, one fine day, indistinguishable from the blur of other
days that had passed before, he picked up a pebble, a warm
pebble, an extraordinarily warm pebble–and threw it into the
sea.

The Success Principle

Your mind, once filled with inspiration, can become dull and
useless once you lose touch with your attention and awareness.

The Principle at Work

In the parable, after years of picking up pebbles and throwing
them into the sea, his mind had become dull with conditioning,
his motion of throwing automatic. Lulled into habit, his senses
had become dull, his sense of discrimination tarnished. Because
he had become the slave of autonomic responses, he lost what he
had spent years looking for.

The poor man ended up becoming poorer still–although he had
found a secret which would have made him fabulously rich. He
should have succeeded because he followed numerous success
principles. He took a risk when he bought the book. He focused
on its most vital information. He acted on this information by
gathering his resources and heading out to the scene of the
action.

On the shore, he devised a simple and elegant strategy. And,
with single-minded intensity, he persisted, working on his
chosen task methodically, relentlessly.

He made only one single mistake: he succumbed to habit and he
did not think about what he was doing. His attention had
wavered, his focus lost. His loss of awareness was his undoing.

Awareness, then, is the key ingredient to making all the success
principles come to life.

You can do everything right but still fail if your mind has lost
its sharpness and become dulled by routine.

The hero of the story had no-one and nothing to blame but
himself, and his only failing was that he had failed to be
awake, alert to his golden moment. Similarly, we are all
responsible for ourselves, and cannot blame others for our loss
of opportunity. It is our alertness, our depth of awareness that
makes for success or failure, happiness or despair.

Naughty. Nice. Daring. Shy. Exotic. Simple. Bettie page could inhabit the full spectrum making her a goddess among women. Now the raven hair beauty is doing it again by ring leading a resurgence of pin-up popularity.

If Only She Was The Girl Next Door

Much like Dean and Monroe, Bettie Page’s popularity during her day was short lived, but her impact has lasted decades. Bettie Page is her real name, she was born Bettie Mae Page on april 22, 1923 in Nashville, Tennessee. Stricken by hard times while growing up her family traveled all over the country in search of a better life.

    Most Likely To Succeed

When she was ten, her parents had divorced and her mother was forced to place Bettie and her two sisters in an orphanage while she worked two jobs to save money. She worked hard during high school with activities in the student council and dramatics club, gaining the admiration of her classmates and voted, “most likely to succeed”. She eventually returned to Nashville to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University.

    The Bangs Have It

“Jerry Tibbs was the one who got me wearing bangs. For years I had my hair parted down the middle in a ponytail, tucked down around the sides. But he said to me, ‘Bettie, you’ve got a very high forehead. I think you’d look good if you cut some bangs to cover it.’ well, I went and cut the bangs, and I’ve been wearing them ever since. They say it’s my trademark.”

News Flash, Brunettes Have More Fun

“I don’t know what they mean by an icon. I never thought of myself as being that. It seems strange to me. I was just modeling, thinking of as many different poses as possible. I made more money modeling than being a secretary. I had a lot of free time. You could go back to work after an absence of a few months. I couldn’t do that as a secretary.

Miss Pin-Up Girl Of The World

1955 was a banner year for pin-up models, when Bettie Page was titled, “Miss Pin-Up of the World”. In January of that same year, she was the centerfold in Playboy Magazine. Hugh Hefner is a huge fan of hers and is still a close friend.

    Blue Crush

“I was never one who was squeamish about nudity. I don’t believe in being promiscuous about it, but several times I thought of going to a nudist colony.” - Bettie Page

“I love to swim in the nude and roam around the house in the nude. You’re just as free as a bird!”

“I like being outdoors. I like to go cavorting in the nude in the forests. It is just another world. To take sunbaths in the nude.”

“It makes me feel wonderful that people still care for me… That I have so many fans among young people, who write to me and tell me I have been an inspiration.”

    The Klaw Has You

“The only person I did bondage for was Irving Klaw and his sister Paula. Usually they would shoot four or five models every Saturday. He wouldn’t pay for the regular pictures unless we did some bondage. So I did bondage shots to get paid for the other photos.”

    The Later Years

Her popularity eventually faded and she disappeared from public view in the late 60’s. Many rumors circulated about her demise, but in actuality she tried her hand at domestic married life, which failed miserably.

    Divine Bettie

Her attempts at a normal domestic existence were further hampered when she started suffering from severe mental trouble, which led to her stabbing three people. After that, bettie took what might seem like a dramatic turn and entered a religious seminary to briefly work as a christian missionary.

    Professional Woman

The Bettie Page t-shirts on American Pop Culture Encyclopedia are officially licensed directly from Bettie Page herself, however these days she doesn’t make public appearances and her exact location in southern California is a closely guarded secret.

The Girl With The Perfect Figure

Her measurements during her glamour modeling days: 36-24-36 1/2. 5’ 5 1/2” tall.

    The Betty Pages

She is sometimes credited as Betty Page, rather than Bettie Page. During the 80’s she once again shot to popularity with a comic series named for her called, “The Betty Pages”. The comic brought her a new audience and ever since has been regarded as an icon.

    Rock-A-Who?

Another comic book played a major roll in rocketing her to stardom during her early years. Dave Steven’s comic book, “The Rocketeer” featured a raven haired beauty greatly inspired by Page. Long after, the comic was adapted into a feature film with Jennifer Connelly in the role initially based on Bettie Page.

    Blue Iguana

While rehearsing for a role as a stripper, Daryl Hannah would don a Bettie Page disguise and strip in los angeles strip clubs during off-peak hours.

    Burlesque Queen

“I was not trying to be shocking, or to be a pioneer. I wasn’t trying to change society, or to be ahead of my time. I didn’t think of myself as liberated, and I don’t believe that I did anything important. I was just myself. I didn’t know any other way to be, or any other way to live.”
