In today scenario when we talk about Search Engine Optimization, we also talk about one of the most important aspect of SEO, which is Link Building. But there are different types, aspects and limitations of Link Building, which would be discussed now under

1.Types of Link Building: I would be explaining this factor in a more understandable manner with giving some examples with Site1, Site2 and Site3.

a)One Way Linking: One Way Linking is a type of Link Building where a site links to another site without getting a link back

Example: Site1 links to Site2
One of the best ways of generating One Way Links is Directory Submissions

You can submit your site in different free directories like Dmoz, Yahoo Directory (Paid Also) and many others

Limitations of One-Way Linking

One of the most desired limitations of One-Way linking is time Consuming process and the confirmation of getting listed in Directories is not fixed

b)Two Way Linking: Mostly known as Reciprocal Linking, this is one of the most effective and fast method of creating quality incoming links towards your site. Two Way Linking is process of exchanging links between 2 sites of similar theme. (As per latest Google Semantic Indexing)

Example: Site1 Links to Site2 and in return Site2 Links back to Site1
The best method to create Reciprocal Links is to contact theme based sites, which you can think can be involved in your Linking Parameters and ask them for a Link Exchange with your site

There are no limitations in this type of Linking as this is one of the most effective and fastest methods of creating incoming traffic to your site.

c)Three Way Linking: This can also be termed as a better way of obtaining One-Way Links to your site, as in this process there is One-Way and Reciprocal Linking Involved

Example: Site1 Links to Site2, But in place Site2 Links Site1 on Site3

Aspects to be Looked Before While creating Links

1.The partner’s site Page Rank of the page where he has placed your link

2.Whether the page where your link has been placed is indexed in Search Engines or not

3.One most important factor is the theme of the site. Eg: If you have a site related to Web Design you can exchange links with site related to shoes or gifts, you should link with sites related to Web only

Raising the Stakes in Paradise

The Caribbean is home to a great number of glitzy casinos and hotels and resorts with on-site gambling. The combination of sugar-sand island ambiance with all the glamor and excitement of Las Vegas makes for an ideal vacation destination for many travelers. But unlike American and European casinos, the gambling atmosphere in the Caribbean is more relaxed, and most of the island casinos are not open 24 hours a day.

Casinos and other hot gambling spots are found on many islands in the Caribbean region. In addition to state-of-the-art slot machines, table games, and other types of gaming fun, Caribbean casinos also offer other nightlife options including dance clubs, discos, and bars. So not only can you wage bets during your sunny island vacation, but you will also find many other ways to let your hair down at Caribbean gambling palaces.

Caribbean Islands That Invite You to Roll the Dice

The Bahamas

The island group that makes up The Bahamas is a popular destination among gamers who are looking for some great casino gambling. Although gambling is illegal for residents of The Bahamas, tourists can try their luck at any of the region’s spectacular casinos. The four largest casinos in The Bahamas are the Atlantis Casino on Paradise Island, the Crystal Palace Casino on New Providence Island, and The Crowne Plaza Golf Resort & Royal Oasis Casino and Our Lucaya, both on Grand Bahama Island.

The famous Atlantis Casino is the largest in the Caribbean. The casino’s sprawling 30,000-square-foot area, which includes 78 table games and approximately 1,000 slot machines, has helped earned the Atlantis Casino its reputation as an immaculate gambling palace. The Atlantis also features several restaurants, outdoor terraces, and gaming lessons for the novice gambler.

The Crystal Palace Casino is another hot gaming spot in The Caribbean. As a part of the Wyndham Nassau Resort on Cable Beach, the Crystal Palace Casino offers approximately 700 slot machines and 38 tables for games such as blackjack, craps, roulette, and baccarat. The Crowne Plaza Golf Resort & Royal Oasis Casino is a luxurious and exciting casino located within a plush hotel that has great choices of various games, slots, and other gambling opportunities. Finally, the newest casino in the Bahamas is Our Lucaya Resort, which offers several gambling options.

Puerto Rico

Exotic Puerto Rico offers approximately one dozen old-world-style casinos. Puerto Rican law requires all casinos to be located on the property of hotels or resorts. Many of these glamorous gambling establishments are located in the historic city of San Juan, and most require that their patrons dress formally. Casinos in Puerto Rico are some of the most exciting in the Caribbean region because of their extravagant historical décor, hot gaming, as well as their award-winning restaurants, live entertainment, array of bars and lounges, and much more.

Popular casinos in Puerto Rico include the Hyatt Regency Cerromar, Hilton Ponce and Casino, Westin Rio Mar Resort Casino, Ritz Carlton San Juan, which is the first Ritz Carlton casino, and many, many more. During your stay in Puerto Rico, you can enjoy fine dining, exciting nightlife, and spectacular gambling fun all under one roof.

Other islands in the Caribbean that feature dazzling casinos and exciting gambling are the Dominican Republic, Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, and Antigua. There are so many choices when it comes to gambling in the Caribbean that you’re sure to find the right island with the perfect casino to fit your style and your ideal vacation.

There are a few things to keep in mind before heading to the slot machines. First, each island has its own laws and rules when it comes to gambling, so be sure to find out the details about the island you visit. Second, the hours that some casinos are open may vary depending on the season, so find out ahead of time before making your plans. And finally, no one under the age of 18 is allowed in Caribbean casinos, so schedule other activities for the youngsters before you hit the casinos.

Caribbean Stud Poker

Caribbean stud poker has a relatively short history in comparison with many other popular casino card games. This poker variation started in Aruba in the 1980s, reportedly by some cruise ship directors who were out to make a buck. Caribbean stud poker is a combination of blackjack and poker – the rules of play are similar between the two games. The biggest difference between Caribbean stud poker and traditional poker is that instead of playing against other players, you go against the dealer. All players are allowed to see one of the dealer’s cards, which is dealt face up. Since it began in Aruba, the popularity of Caribbean stud poker has grown tremendously in the region and is even played in Las Vegas.

The Psychology of Network Marketing

The general public usually misunderstands the network marketing industry. When they hear of network marketing opportunities their biased perceptions of the industry can cause them to avoid these opportunities. This negative reputation has been brought about by information about organizations within this industry that are perceived as being unscrupulous and deceptive. And as we all know, negative word-of-mouth can travel quickly.

However, the public’s perceptions of network marketing are beginning to change. This is largely due to changes in behavior by the network marketers. Today, enlightened network marketers have made the subtle change in focus from building sales to building relationships. This new breed of network marketer is involved in building, not only relationships, but long-term relationships that are mutually beneficial to both parties.
In many cases network marketing has turned into a full-fledged mentoring system. When you take the risk to grow your own business channels the risk is greatly reduced when there is someone there to guide you and offer advice, making this is a true business relationship. Enlightened network marketers will also acknowledge the psychological differences in people. For example, they are aware that some people are auditory while others are more visually oriented. Therefore their teaching tools will reflect an individual’s needs.

If you are researching network marketing opportunities look for those organizations that cater not only to your financial growth, but also to your personal development. Look for opportunities that are built on relationships as well as other types of rewards. Integrity is a major component of the enlightened network marketing organization.

The truth is that opportunities do exist and the rewards can be great. However, success often comes to those that are able to work within the system’s framework. And, as in other walks of life, the most successful network marketers are those that are highly motivated. Your success will be measured, not by your own achievements, but by the achievements of others within your organization.

Every new industry is faced with the challenge of establishing their collective identity and ethics. Network marketing has been no exception. However changes within the industry are occurring and people’s perceptions of the industry are changing. This is reflected in the growing number of individuals from all walks of life who are embracing the concepts and rewards of network marketing.

Babywearing - How To Choose The “Just” Right Carrier For You, and Your Baby

In today’s world, all we have are options. From the right clothes to dress our babies in, to even the kinds of food they eat. Baby wearing is no different. There is a huge amount of variety in the kinds of baby carriers that one can find.

Below is a run down on some of the different types and some of the pros and cons to each.

To start off the list you have the most readily available carriers; those found in Baby’s R Us, and Target. They would be your Snuglie, and Bjorn. These carriers first off are NOT good for your baby, and can actually put their little spines at risk. Carriers that place a baby facing outward with their legs left to dangle can put undue stress on the spines and hips, which in turn can cause a condition called Spondylolisthesis. Spondylolisthesis compromises developing curves in the spine. Another drawback is how uncomfortable they are for moms. These types of carriers, however, are extremely popular, and readily available, which makes them the number one choice (unfortunately) for most parents. There are really no good points to this carrier other than that fact that it does promote parents being more attached to their children.

The next carrier is also pretty well known commercially, the hip carrier. This carrier is extremely nonversatile. The only thing this carrier can do is a hip carry; with the strap going over your shoulder. They are however, easy to find, and relatively easy to use. These need to be used once a baby has excellent body control and head control.

The next type of carrier that then comes to mind is the pouch. Most pouches you find on the market today are non-adjustable; which can be a drawback, and advantage all at one time. A Pouch can be extremely hard to fit, and because they are not adjustable they must fit the wearer perfectly to work and do their job. If they are too big or to small, they will hurt the wearer, and not be safe. Also, this sizing depends on the wearer as well, some mom’s (like me) like to have there pouch hip length. Others like to have there baby a bit tighter or looser, so this plays a big role as well.

Pouches can be used for a wide variety of carries, from facing out (in a “froggy” position), hip, tummy to tummy, back carries, to cradle carries. Pouches come in a variety of fabric choices, from regular cotton to stretch cotton, and may have padding or not. They can also come reversible, which can be a nice addition.

All in all, pouches are a good fit for a lot of parents. They are easy to use, have a low learning curve, and are pretty versatile; you can even breast feed in one. Some disadvantages are that babies sometimes do not like a pouch, and with only being worn on one shoulder it can become painful as your baby grows older or if you wear it for a long period of time. Pouches can be used from birth up to around 35 pounds (though most parents find it is most comfortable up to around 12ish pounds.)

Ring Slings are next. Ring slings come in a variety of styles as well, from padded to non, with an open tail or closed. Open tailed simply means that the tail is not sewn together, with this extra fabric your sling can be easier to adjust and also you can use the extra fabric to cover baby, or protect her from the sun. A closed tail simply means that the tail fabric is all sewn together; this is extremely nice since there is no extra fabric “hanging around.” They come in a variety of fabrics.

You can do all of the same carries as above and it also fits to the same weight limits. Ring slings are very adjustable, so anyone can adjust it to wear baby (i.e. mom and dad can share the same sling). However as with the pouch there are drawbacks, again after long periods of time, or heavy babies a ring sling can be not as comfortable as some other carriers. Babies can also have problems with the rings, as can some parents. They can also be hard to adjust.

All in all, Ring slings are a good “fit” for parents looking for something that more than one person can use, pretty easy to navigate, and they can breastfeed with ease in.

The next kind of carrier, going by ease of use would be a Mei Tai. A Mei Tai is an Asian inspired carrier and consists of 4 straps. Two longer straps for the shoulder area and 2 for around the waist. Most Mei Tais are made with the top straps to be positioned on the flat or top part of your shoulder. However there are also “wrap” inspired straps that can be placed on the balls of your shoulders as well.

A Mei Tai has a bit more of a learning curve than the above baby carriers. However, it can also be much more comfortable and versatile. A Mei Tai is almost always a tied carrier, which means that you tie around your waist and then around baby as well. It can take some getting used to, i.e. figuring out how tight to tie it, and tweaking the straps so that everyone feels comfortable. A Mei Tai can be used, in a hip carry, back carry (high and low), front carry with babies legs in the froggy position and some Mei Tai makers are now adding drawstrings to the bottom for that “face the world” carry (though ALL Mei Tai makers recommend that this carry only be done for very brief periods of time). You can also (almost always) nurse in your Mei Tai. A Mei Tai can be used from birth, till around 35 pounds and still be totally comfortable for wearer and baby. I have actually also worn my 50 pound 6 year old in mine as well, for short periods!

A Mei Tai is a one size fits most moms and dads, though most Mei Tai makers do offer extra large strap length’s, it is usually not needed. A Mei Tai is a great fit for a mom who wants comfort, and the ability to do different carries for different reasons. Some of the drawbacks can be they are a bit harder to learn, a baby can’t do the “lay down” carries as the two above carriers can.

On to the next, the Korean Inspired Podegi. A Podeagi is a carrier that only has one long strap, or sometimes this one strap is cut into two pieces. It has a long body or back panel, which is where baby will sit. It is also (as with the Mei Tai) a tie on baby carrier. One of the drawbacks to a Podeagi is that since it only has one strap, it is harder to get tied on. It is usually recommended that the wearer sit down to put it on. This can be a pain but also works very well. A Podeagi can be worn tummy to tummy and on the back (in high and low carries).

A Podeagi’s basic drawback is that you need either another person or a chair to help with getting the carrier on. However once worn it is very comfortable and versatile. It, along with the Mei Tai, is much smaller than a wrap and can fit into the diaper bag easier. Another great thing about it is if you have shoulder problems, it can be worn with out ever being on your shoulders. The carrier is good from birth (at birth most people prefer that the back of the carrier be behind babies head) to 35 pounds and beyond, with older children being able to have the carrier under thier arms so that they can use them.

The next carrier would be a wrap. Wraps come in different lengths with the most common being 4+ yards, or 3 yards. Wraps are in essence is just a long piece of fabric, serged or hemmed on the ends. They come in different kinds of fabrics which make them and give them there differences. Some are woven, others are stretchy materials, and fleece can also be used.

There is a wide variety of positions that can be used. If you have a shorter wrap, the wrap does not go over both shoulders when tied. This can lead to back and neck pain while wearing. However, since it is shorter it is less cumbersome and somewhat easier to get the hang of. The longer, while being able to do more, can also be cumbersome because there is a lot more fabric. Wrap carries are, face to face, facing out, back, cradle, kangaroo, hip. It can again be worn from birth to 35+ pounds.

A lot of mommies love wraps. They are a carrier that you can put on in the morning, and keep on all day long; taking baby in and out as needed. They can also be one of the most comfortable carriers because there “straps” go over the ball of your shoulder as apposed to the top part; they are also very versatile, and comfortable.

The Onbuhimo is next. It is simply a Podeagi with rings at the bottom of the back panel, to place the straps though. You still tie this carrier on, but with the rings, you can use it much like a Mei Tai, you can place the straps over your shoulders (or around your chest area) then thread though the rings, before tying around your waist. The rings add another step which can be cumbersome and confusing to some. Though other’s love that they can thread them though the loops instead of tying behind baby. These can be used from birth to 35+ pounds as well.

In general, the whole baby wearing experience is totally personal. What works for one, another person would hate, and what works for another would not necessarily work for you.

If you’re new to baby wearing, and don’t know where to go, here are a couple questions to ask yourself:

* Can a baby be worn in front, on the side, and in back?

* Will the carrier accommodate the child from birth through toddler hood?

* Do I want or need a carrier to last from birth to toddler hood?

* Can a child be transferred from one wearer to another without being taken out?

* Will other people be using or wearing the baby, does this matter?

* If a baby falls asleep vertically, can he easily be moved to a horizontal position without being taken out of the carrier or can the carrier be taken off and without disturbing baby?

* Can a baby be put into all carrying positions by the wearer, or is another person or “thing’s” help necessary to help, does this matter to you?

* Is it possible to easily adjust the carrier so that different points on your body feel the weight?

* Does the carrier let the baby be worn in many different positions? A carrier with limited positions won’t meet a baby’s changing needs and desires.

Always know that if you buy a carrier that you can’t get to work for you, there are many places that you can go to sell the carrier, and to look for others. You can also almost always go back to store (on line or not) or person and ask them to help you, almost all in this field will help you with any questions, and/or problems you may have. We want you to be happy wearing your baby!

A last note, on what has worked best for us: We have several different carriers for several different situations. What worked best for us in the beginning was a pouch. The reason being that it was super easy to use and I needed that, with 4+ month old baby and a 5 year old, life needed to be as simple as possible.

What we use and love now, is different on the situation we are in. I use a pouch, when it’s a quick trip around the block or up and down. However, I can not cook in my pouch (to many roaming hands). For long walks or trips, we almost always use a Podeagi. While it can be sometimes hard to get on, (if we are away from home, I use the car seat to help with this) my son LOVES the high back position, and I love the way it does not sit on my chest like the Mei Tai does in the high back position. Zachary loves to see out and likes having his arms free. The Mei Tai also has its use in this house, when going to the park when I am unsure if there will be a way to get Zachary back up on my back, or if there is a chance he might need or want to nurse we always resort to the Mei Tai. We have tried a wrap and a ring sling, both of which did not work for us.

For the most comfort and ease of use I go for the Mei Tai every time, there is so many things you can do with one, it’s one of the most comfortable things I have found, we just love it!

The Skinny on Being Photogenic

“Oh no! It’s only three days ’til my appointment at the photographers! I don’t even know what I’m going to wear and what about the make-up? The person who made the appointment didn’t suggest a thing.”

It doesn’t come up too often, but when it does, a little knowledgeable advice would be greatly appreciated. Generally, the same kind of make-up appropriate for an evening date will also photograph well. A little darker base prevents your skin from washing out in the lights and extra cheek color is a must. Lipstick photographs on the rich side, so pick a more muted shade. Lip liner is not a good idea and be sure to follow your real lip shape. Lip gloss is a plus. Some things to avoid are pearly eye shadow, lower lash liner and a too shiny look. Proper lighting will take care of any bags under your eyes and a good surface hair spray will eliminate any stray hairs.

In the clothing department, try to go for a simple, dramatic effect: no intricate patterns, round necklines, mismatched color sets, or dull, wrinkled materials. Rather look for solids or two tones, V necklines, three piece outfits (for business), and one bright color among subtle shades of neutrals. Shiny materials show up well under the lights and textures like cable knits, heavy sweaters and linens add interest to the photograph. Always bring an alternate outfit just in case one will photograph better than the other.

Every good portrait photographer will introduce some level of soft focus along with large reflector for soft lighting. A pre- consultation is useful for finding out whether a soft filter is used and the effect it has on your skin. Try to observe an appropriate sample of the exact filter and lighting to be used on you. What you see is what you get is not just a saying.

Lastly, prepare yourself mentally for the portrait session. A willing attitude toward the photographer has a beneficial effect on the success of the session. Pay attention to any instructions and be patient. The photographer has a lot to do and think about in the process of creating that wonderful portrait of you, so help him all you can. Remember, you’re doing this for your loved ones, so don’t be shy and above all, have fun.

Why High Blood Cholesterol Is Dangerous

Filed under:Hall Of Medical Resources — posted on @ 11:46 am

Cholesterol, like fat, cannot move around the bloodstream on its own because it does not mix with water. The bloodstream carries cholesterol in particles called lipoproteins that are like blood-borne cargo trucks delivering cholesterol to various body tissues to be used, stored or excreted. But too much of this circulating cholesterol can injure arteries, especially the coronary ones that supply the heart. This leads to accumulation of cholesterol-laden “plaque” in vessel linings, a condition called atherosclerosis.

When blood flow to the heart is impeded, the heart muscle becomes starved for oxygen, causing chest pain (angina). If a blood clot completely obstructs a coronary artery affected by atherosclerosis, a heart attack (myocardial infarction) or death can occur.

Are you at risk? Cardiovascular disease is still one of the greatest health problem affecting western countries. According to the American Heart Foundation, over 70 million Americans have cardiovascular disease (CVD). The national cost of is nearly $400 billion and every 45 seconds an American has a stoke.

Certain risk factors increase your chances of developing cardiovascular disease.

1. Overweight
2. High blood cholesterol
3. Insufficient physical activity
4. High blood pressure
5. Smoking
6. Excessive alcohol intake
7. Diabetes

Many people have multiple risk factors for heart disease and the level of risk increases with the number of risk factors. By reducing these risk factors you can largely prevent the onset of cardiovascular disease. On its own elevated blood cholesterol is not necessarily a problem, but coupled with one or more other risk factors for heart disease, it is often the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

It is, therefore, very important to know what your cholesterol levels are and to keep them at a healthy level before you have any problems.

High risk cholesterol
If your total cholesterol level is 240 or more, it’s definitely high. You have a higher risk of heart attack and stroke. In fact, you should have your LDL and HDL cholesterol tested. Ask your doctor for advice. Close to 20 percent of the U.S. population has high blood cholesterol levels.

Borderline-high risk
People whose total cholesterol is 200 to 239 mg/dL have borderline-high cholesterol. About a third of American adults are in this group, while almost half of adults have total cholesterol levels below 200 mg/dL. In fact, people who have a total cholesterol of 240 mg/dL have twice the risk of coronary heart disease as people whose cholesterol level is 200 mg/dL. Does physical activity affect cholesterol?

Other factors that affect blood cholesterol levels:

Heredity – High cholesterol often runs in families. Even though specific genetic causes have been identified in only a minority of cases, genes still play a role in influencing blood cholesterol levels. If your parents have high cholesterol, you need to be tested to see if your cholesterol levels are also elevated.

Age and gender – Before menopause, women tend to have total cholesterol levels lower than men at the same age. Cholesterol levels naturally rise as men and women age. Menopause is often associated with increases in LDL cholesterol in women.

Stress – Studies have not shown stress to be directly inked to cholesterol levels. But experts say that because people sometimes eat fatty foods to console themselves when under stress, this can cause higher blood cholesterol.

Excess weight – Being overweight tends to increase blood cholesterol levels. Losing weight has been shown to help lower levels. A greater risk of increased cholesterol levels occurs when that extra weight is centered in the abdominal region, as opposed to the legs or buttocks.

GPS Navigation Systems and Data Problems

We have a serious problem brewing with GPS navigation systems for automobiles and even motorcycles. There are however problems with this devise as a high tech toy are more serious than you might think. Ask anyone in a metro area who has bought a new car with one of those cool GPS upgrades for their SUV or new sports car. We have had our customers complain (customers of the carwash business, which is my profession). Oh they love the gadget, but they are under whelmed by the lack of data and streets, which are not listed. You see we have been seeing incredible suburban growth in many cities. Places near large DMA metros are a problem out in the middle class suburbs. In many areas such as outside Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Nashville, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Columbus, Cleveland, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, DC Subs, etc. And in NJ, NC, NV, OH lots of other fast growing growth pockets.

When GPS devises for cars first hit the scenes at the CES and SEMA shows in 1996, they became increasingly more popular, powerful and better data. But like VHS and Beta, Apple and IBM, competition became increasingly greater causing much consolidation in the industry along with patent fights. Much of the technology was former Defense Contractors peddling their wares through subsidiary consumer level companies. But the tight market remained due to the costs. Meanwhile companies like DeLorme and others tried to flood the market with low priced GPS units, which made things even more competitive. And the bugs were not fully out of the system yet. Someday all cars will drive themselves and people can watch TV, do video conferencing and use their transportation as a portable office or entertainment system while they are being driven to the location they have punched into their computer. Some things will have to occur before this is a reality of course. But eventually your dexterity skills to actually pilot a car will be worthless and un-needed.

First the satellites will need to be laser aligned and use multiple satellites to get absolute locations of ground items and vehicles. The cars will need to have additional anti collision devises made up of networked sonar and optic flow sensors. All of which are now available and the technology is getting better and better. Many military applications today will be civilian tomorrow. Just like Radar, Microwave ovens, Nuclear Energy, Cellular Phones, Satellite Communication and Jet Aircraft in Commercial Aviation. The flow of transportation will be brought to the next generation to serve man better.

For the time being the incremental changes in these technologies has hit a slight road block even though Honda, GM, Ford, Mercedes, Daimler Chrysler and Toyota have invested billions in anti-collision and safety devices which they will add comfort and desirable options which they can sell to customers as upgrades. Smart Car Technologies can add Thousands of Dollars to the price of a car and consumers are glad to pay for them. A factory GPS system with display can cost up to $6,000.00 and they sell a lot of them on the higher end cars. It is a high profit item upgrade, although there are some, which only cost $1000. And if you wish to compare these, some are very incredible with many features;

There are many companies, which sell after market computer assist items. These companies are doing quite well and the systems work great. The big issue is just because you have a super duper incredible GPS system, does not mean the street you are looking for is even on the map yet. In other words it is like using an old map. If you are a studier of maps like I happen to be, you will see the problem with older maps. Even some companies keep printing old map data year after year without adding in new on ramps, city streets, infrastructure freeway improvements and ring-roads, it is aggravating for those from out of town. Even more aggravating looking for an address or street in a new housing tract, which you can see but the devise insists, does not exist? Then there are problems in areas like Cape Coral, FL and Tehachapi, CA or El Paso, TX and Knoxville, TN where the roads have been scraped and ready to put in or put in but do not connect or have nothing there yet. Of course it is very aggravating to see a road and try to go down it and find it is a dirt road that connects to nothing yet or an entire sub-division that does not exist? Is it a Mirage? If so where is the white Tiger Show?

Jack Dangermond of ESRI had set up entire networks of software makers who developed data for their awesome software products for GPS and GIS needs. Used by government, military, utility companies, transportation companies, private companies with GPS units to sell to the public, First Responders and school districts for buses. After the Dot Com crash those software companies were among some of the survivors, but had significantly cut costs. Thus without the proper data the GPS systems bought by the upper, upper-middle and middle class for their cars were not always good enough to support the price point for the newest technology. This is especially upsetting since the upper, upper-middle and middle class citizens who pay the most taxes live in the suburbs for the most part. The chances of a middle class American; who bought a home during the 3 years last housing boom; not being able to find their house or street on their new GPS devise is a higher probability then them actually finding it. We interviewed one man who bought a new Nissan Sports car.

Who lives in a newer developed area in the higher end Las Vegas, Clark County Suburbs, which only had the main streets on his GPS and had huge blank spots on his device? Some GPS devices allow the user to choose a satellite vendor and data vendor and software, but many of the Factory units do not. People think they are getting something really good and then find they cannot use it to navigate, which would really piss you off considering you may have paid as much as $6,000 for the unit. Even more dangerous is the information we learned from an EMT ambulance driver in Dallas area who told us of looking for streets for 15-20 minutes after battling through suburban gridlock to get to where they thought it might be. 3G cell phone technology may assist for those using cell phones to call in data to the dispatches. For all the training we are doing across this nation for first responders and on-going education of police, fire, Hazmat, etc. it appears that we have forgotten the problems of the system. Any time you build a system to serve humankind you must make it simple and make it work, that should be the first, the very first priority, then you can fix all the other issues.

With that said we interviewed a lady recently one evening who had a hell of a long day working for the Metro Police Departments Central Nervous System. The communications center and dispatch is to what we are referring. Although she was unaware of the problem at the center for bad data or missing data in the system, she could not say how they were able to get the information. Luckily serving a metro area they are probably connected to the planning departments computer, which they should be. And if the police department has the new data and no problem in this case, why have the software vendors not been able to access the data? It is a safety issue if someone with a GPS system pulls out a map and tries to read it while driving in an area they are not familiar with. It is guaranteed that in the history of the automobile in this country more people have been in serious traffic accidents from trying to read maps, than talking on cell phones, although cell phones no doubt a contributing factor in many lesser accidents will eventually pass this figure. Where the streets are, well frankly I cannot understand the need to keep this a secret unless it is the layout of Area 51, Prison, Power plant, Pentagon grounds, Military Bases, etc. If the emergency first responders divisions and contractors would share the data, there might be less accidents and they maybe able to get some assistance from the public being the eyes and ears

http://www.lancewinslow.org/nmwp.shtml

and also perhaps they could in fact use the idea of Smart Virtual Mobile Communities or FlashMob scenarios since budgets are strapped as the National Security “Red-Orange-Yellow-High-Risk-Danger-Days” come with high frequency, more police and first responders are on duty and that costs money. Without significant inflows the coverage of the Grid of a city is in jeopardy of slower response times. Fast response times are the easiest way to keep the peace, everyone, which gets away can cause problems another day and of course in case of International Terrorist Attacks.

It is essential to have the data for these devises and everyone is better served when communication flows. GPS units provide that and the data should be readily available and probably it is best to have the cities using the same formats as first responders and the same data can be used for utilities, consumers, military and even census data or academia studying urban sprawl and growth rates to have infrastructures ready during expansion. Things like water and energy, which has obviously been a major focus here.

There needs to be a nationwide coordinated effort to see that such data is filtered into the private sector, because as it stand the companies have been hammered in the industry and cannot perform the services to bring this stuff to market. Communication is important for government and citizen a like, increased efficiencies in business will save the government money and provide additional tax base and funds on the income of such businesses utilizing such data, as well as save money and time for all the government services discussed above. If we want a screaming economy we ought to be thinking how we can streamline and accelerate the flow of information to increase efficiencies and allow a small portion of the gain from the expanded pie to continue the growth. In other words, we make it easier for the Florist to deliver, the school buses to pick up more kids per hour and the soccer mom to take more kids to practice and still have time left to shop all of which serves man. The digital GIS divide is as important for our economy as the Digital Internet Divide. Kids in sports do less drugs, become more competitive, have higher work ethics and soccer moms can help keep the retail economy going. Every time you ease the flow, more things are possible. The exponential increase in American productivity is needed to offset the time lost in traffic and congestion. GIS-GPS systems can help in any emergency or simply driving around town getting things done to check off one’s list for the day.

Core-Principles: The Function of Functional Training

Okay…okay…okay! Enough already!!! It seems like with every new term, every new invention or just about anything that is seemingly not “Everyday” that we all become flustered and assume we know nothing, which is both a testament to our lack of faith in ourselves and also a reflection of our ever-growing dependence on externals to give us a little reassurance where our natural instincts should be in high gear.

My intention with this article is not to offend anyone especially those that whom, without their continual support I would surely be seeking a new line of work, and yes I am referring to my clients, so please don’t feel like I’m bashing “you” if I ever refer to any particular individuals or events, no names will be mentioned though. Okay so…a while back, a client that I really respect and admire as a person had a dilemma that caused quite a bit of frustration for him and the other party that was involved…his daughter, also a client. What happened (an avoidable sport related injury) was tough on all involved, including myself, which, for me was my integrity as a fitness professional, something that I don’t take lightly and also a profession where in today’s world either has a negative connotation or if viewed positively, “we” are all equally educated and equipped to handle all aspects of fitness when it comes to the customers specific and infinite diversities; be it post-rehabilitation, specificity of sport, special populations or general fitness concerns or needs… All fitness trainers are not “professionals” (imagine that!) nor are they equal in their abilities and hardly ever do you find a fitness trainer with expertise in a variety of different specialties! It takes many years of education, study, application with thousands of delicate intricacies (people are complex) that make us all, well…‘us”, minutely distinct. It also requires an understanding of unique differences in personalities and the ability to cope with a multitude of unknown, potential disasters; not to mention…likes, dislikes, opinions, lifestyles, cultures, beliefs and so on… And it’s not just a general understanding of anatomy, physiology, exercise-science or athleticism… It also includes an aptitude in psychology, communication and a deep desire to help others and to serve your fellow man with all that propels you forward…or at least that is what it is to me!

I’m a pretty sensitive guy especially when it comes to my client’s needs and the fulfillment of their needs and when something strikes to the bone such as this particular incident, I become so absorbent of their concerns it usually drives me to really dig deep into myself and hopefully I become a better resource for my clients out of these situations, which ironically if you read on is why I am writing this piece in the first place. The previously mentioned sport related injury of a talented young athlete is what motivated me to put pen to paper, she is very gifted and posses the kind of personality that we desperately need as role models in modern day athletics. But she was injured by a degreed professional and it seemed like there wasn’t anyone around that could see ‘the picture’ clearly: The “DIAGNOSIS”…rehab-therapy mingled with the rigors of hard-core team training…this boggled me; rehab always precedes specificity (sport) training, build, repair and then if recovery is attained, hit the hard-core stuff, plain and simple because re-injury will surely squelch the spirit and possible prevent true talent from ever recognizing it’s infinite potential.

This article is actually on core training or as I’ll title it… Kore-Training, but what is really functional training and not just abdominal/tummy training or training the body from it’s core center of gravity or even training the body beginning with it’s proximal musculature moving outward toward the distal focal point. The big misconception with core training is that it is just mid-section training and all you have to do is some quick crunches or even worse hyperextensions and your “core” will be stronger and leaner. I hear this all the time and it still puzzles me, its one thing for the customer seeking fitness to not be 100% sure what core training is, but a professional should know better! Guess what? Too many fitness trainers, sports and conditioning coaches and other so-called “professionals” have no idea what core training is! In essence it is just functional training and ‘functional’ simply translates to the training of function/daily uses of the body or just training our bodies as they were designed to move. This obviously varies from person to person, athlete to athlete and the specific uses of each and every individual. Now, for a little tech-talk…

If you wanna get down to nuts and bolts, the primary vicinity of the core is called the…are you ready for this? Lumbo-Pelvic-Hip-Complex and in order to enhance the integrity of the core, what we are really doing is developing better dynamic postural control, increasing muscular balance, a greater degree of neuromuscular and bio-mechanic efficiency and building or rebuilding structural endurance and stabilization strength and power. And that’s core training… What does this mean to the layman? Crunches? Sit-ups? No! It means something different to each and every one of us. Are, ab exercises part of core training? Perhaps, if the lumbar region is strong enough to endure these exercises, but usually crunches are performed so poorly that a greater potential for injury will nullify what positive effects the crunches might possibly provide. So, the answer is both yes and no, depends on who is asking and your particular conditioning level, however rather than sticking our bodies in odd looking machines we should use movements that are relative to our activities or our sport or more specifically we should just use movements that keep our bodies free to move through space as we target various muscle groups, and if pondered, it doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. The truth is both the Greeks and Romans trained for competition like this thousands of years ago, not to mention the fact that our bodies have not changed that much biologically, biochemically or physiologically, we are made of the same material as they were then.

Common sense is the key, move our bodies as they were designed to function and allow them to improve through progression and repetition. If we are looking to rehabilitate, repair or strengthen debilitations or genetically pre-disposed weaknesses then my advise would be…consult a qualified professional and by professional I mean someone who has a back-ground in this specific area of ‘application’ or applied expertise: this “expert” should give an assessment and then a prescription of a detailed movement protocol for the individual, what you should be weary of is the “professional” that eagerly dispenses a standardized penciled-in work-out sheet that resembles your…‘Free-Introductory-Work-Out’ card at “Jack’s Work-Out Shack”. Also, if any of these “professionals” hurt you… Then, they simply are not “PROFESSIONALS”! Final note, I am adamantly opposed to “knocking” hard working, well intended others of my particular profession as well as those of the medical community, but when injuries are concerned, we should always do our selves justice and seek more than one (1) ‘professional’ opinion…degrees, credentials and “leg-up” opportunities aside…and I know you don’t need me to tell you that.
I, applaud each and every one of you that chooses the right choice, because the right is merely an echo of truth!

Car Wash Fundraiser Ideas

Car wash fundraisers are a proven money-maker in virtually every community. All you need are willing volunteers, a high-traffic location with good visibility, and some attention getting signs.

You can put a car wash fundraiser together on short notice, but they work best with a little planning. Here’s how to get started…

Things To Do List
1- Line up a location with good main road frontage
2- Ensure it has suitable water access
3- Assemble supplies list – hoses, buckets, wash towels, dry towels, squeegees
4- Assign each volunteer an item from the supplies list
5- Make 8-10 poster board signs in high-contrast colors
6- Arrange your volunteers in 2-hour shifts
7- Get advance publicity, if possible

How To List
1- Organize your group into teams - Promotion, Sales, Wash, Dry
2- Promotion team attracts new clients with signs
3- Sales team explains offer (use flyer for quick info) and up-sells clients
4- Wash team soaps, scrubs, and rinses each car
5- Dry team gets water residue off, vacuums, does tires, etc.
6- Have at least two lines so you can wash two or more cars at once
7- Wash cars for six to eight hours (Saturday 9:00 to 3:00 preferred)

Your fundraiser’s success will depend on the weather. If you can wash 12 cars an hour (one every 10 minutes in each line), you can raise $500- $1000 in one day.

Remember to put together a quick flyer that includes the reason why you’re raising funds and clearly states the price. You can even offer some extra services such as providing high-gloss tire treatment or vacuuming interiors for an additional fee.

Car Wash Fundraiser - Success Tips
1- Location, location, location!
2- Sell car wash fundraiser tickets in advance
3- Use a flyer that clearly explaining why you’re raising funds
4- List all prices concisely in large, bold type
5- Up-sell to include additional services
6- Partner with another group if your head count is low
7- Increase revenue with an extra offering such as a 2-for-1 pizza savings card

Alternatively, you can advertise a free car wash and just ask for donations for your cause.

Often, this can raise more cash than stating a specific price, because people will see a group of volunteers working hard and having a good time, and may part with their money more easily.

Final Advice
Make sure to keep the event fun for all your participants and your customers. Play upbeat music. Provide soft drinks and snacks to keep the energy level up.

Keep safety in mind. Be sure to get volunteers to hold and wave signs toward passing traffic, not just volunteers to wash cars.

If you have time, get your car wash fundraiser some publicity coverage in the local newspaper, or by posting signs a day or two in advance.
