Don’t You Know Who I Am?

One dilemma that the super famous face is balancing the needs of privacy and recognition. One time in New York an unnoticed Marilyn Monroe was walking down Madison Avenue accompanied by Eli Wallach. ” My God, don’t these people know who you are?” Wallach asked her. Marilyn, whose application of make-up took nearly as long Boris Karloff’’s Frankenstein Monster, grinned at him. “I’m only recognized when I want to be. Watch this.” She began to swing her hips and walk in a way that was familiar to movie goers and was eventually mobbed by adoring fans.

For some stars privacy is an overrated commodity. In 1919, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford went on their European honeymoon. The two international icons had divorced their previous spouses and were concerned about how they would be greeted. They needn’t have worried. In London their limousine was surrounded by admiring women who pulled Mary out of the car to shake her hand, still grateful after two year for her efforts selling war bonds. In Paris they couldn’t get any sleep with crowds gathering below their hotel room to serenade them. In Amsterdam they attended a party and were mobbed by other guests who wanted to get close to them. The acrobatic Fairbanks placed his wife on her shoulder and escaped through the window. Finally, they found privacy in Hamburg, because of World War I their movies were not shown there. For an hour the famous newlyweds walked the streets unnoticed until the bored Mary turned to her husband and said,”Doug I’m sick of this. Let’s go back to one of those countries were they mob us.”

Joan Crawford had similar sentiments. Once in the 1930s she was staying in New York getting over her breakup with Clark Gable. Tired of moping around her hotel she told her entourage they should go out and get some fresh air. The sycophants who had trouble keeping up with the star’s brisk pace, were startled when she took a detour. “Oh my God. She’s going into Grand Central Station!” Someone shouted,” Look it’s Joan Crawford!” and she was mobbed, it took thirty minutes to escape the crowd and get back to their hotel suite. Her hair disheveled, her dress torn and her face scratched, Crawford leaned against the door out of breath. “Oh. . .oh my. That was wonderful. Lets do it again!”

Notoriety can get you out of a jam. Tired of being identified as James Bond, Sean Connery took an unusual step for Hollywood leading man by publicly revealing his baldness on screen, beginning with The Man Who Will Be King (1976). On location in Casablanca, the Scotsman rejected the use of a chauffer and limo, choosing instead to drive himself in Volkswagen Bug. One day he drove around town dressed in a sweat shirt and shorts and was stopped for questioning by the local police. The former Mr. Universe runner-up had unfortunately left his passport back at the hotel and was arrested as a suspicious character. Just as he was about to be locked up, Connery shouted,”007! I’m 007 damn you!” They recognized him and let him go.

If you lose your hair, you can keep your privacy. Rob Reiner’s big break was Harrison Ford turning down the role of Meathead on All In the Family (1971-1980) because Ford couldn’t stand Archie Bunker’s bigotry. When the show first went into production, Reiner and his fellow castmates would leave the CBS lot to eat lunch at the neighboring Farmers Market. Initial low ratings meant they were mostly ignored by the tourists. A few months later All In the Family was a monster hit and they received Beatle’s like attention. From then on the cast generally preferred to stay in their dressing rooms at lunchtime. All except the ever hungry Meathead who removed the toupee he wore on the show and continued to eat at the Market in peace.

Acne Breakouts - How to Stop Them Forever

Millions of teenagers suffer from acne each year. Acne can be an embarrassing condition and always manages to pop up when least expected and most unwanted. By creating a regimented skin care system you will be able to help prevent acne breakouts from forming and taking over your life. Here is a guide to improve your skin and decrease the severity of your acne breakouts.

Your best bet for fighting acne breakouts is not to focus on the pimples that have already erupted on your skin. The best way to fight acne is to prevent it from erupting in the first place. This is the best way to minimize any acne scarring.

Your first step in a regimented skin care system is to exfoliate while cleansing. This step should be performed both morning and evening. If your cleanser does not already contain exfoliating beads you will want to use a wash cloth while cleansing to exfoliate the skin. Acne can be caused by excess skin cells clogging the pores. By properly exfoliating you help to keep your pores open and remove acne causing bacteria.

After exfoliating, your second step will be to use a 2% salicylic acid treatment. You can easily find these treatments at any drug store. Apply this treatment twice a day which will not only help to remove excess skin cells, but it will also help to keep acne causing bacteria away from your skin.

While on this acne treatment it is important to moisturize because excessive drying may occur. However, it is important not to use an oil based moisturizer which will clog your pores. Today, there are moisturizers on the market that are designed to moisturize your skin and help fight acne at the same time. This is a good choice for a facial lotion.

The third step in creating an acne fighting skin care regimen is to apply sunscreen. You should look for an oil free sunscreen that will not clog the pores. While most people know that the sun can cause wrinkles and skin cancer, you may not realize that the sun actually causes acne breakouts. That is why it is so important to protect your skin from the sun whenever you are outdoors, even if it appears to be cloudy.

If you have given this skin care system an honest try for a couple weeks and there are still stubborn acne breakouts that will not go away, it is time to visit a dermatologist. Prescription medications are harsher than over the counter treatments and therefore more effective, but they may also have more side effects. Two good prescription treatments are Accutane and Retin-A. Both of these treatments will make your skin even more sensitive to the sun, so it is important to protect yourself with sunscreen (at least SPF 30), a hat and sunglasses.

This acne fighting skin care system will only work if it is used religiously. That means morning and night everyday, whether or not acne is present. This system not only works to fight breakouts that have already erupted, but it also works to prevent acne from forming so you never have to worry about a pesky zit again.

Late Mortgage Payments Drop

Filed under:Great Real Estate Tips — posted on @ 5:56 pm

Late payments on mortgages dropped in the first quarter of 2006, after hitting a high in the fourth quarter of 2005.

The number of mortgage payments that were 30 days or more past due dropped by 4.41 percent in the first quarter, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s quarterly mortgage survey.

In 2005, the final quarter brought the highest mortgage delinquency rate in two-and-a-half years.

The improvement in mortgage delinquencies is partly due to strong economic growth and to a good job climate in the first quarter. The strength of the economy in these areas helped offset the negative effects of rising borrowing costs and high energy prices.

“The economy grew at a brisk 5.3% pace in the first quarter of 2006, and the labor markets were quite strong as well, with an average of 176,000 jobs added per month,” said Doug Duncan, MBA’s chief economist. He pointed to “offsetting positive factors” as “particularly important in the first quarter.”

Late payments are still seen as partly due to last year’s Gulf Coast hurricanes. If you remove the hurricane impact from the mortgage survey, the delinquency rate for the first quarter falls to 4.31%.

The survey revealed that the percentage of mortgages starting the foreclosure process in the first quarter of 2006 was down to 0.41%. In the fourth quarter, there was a foreclosure starting rate of 0.42%.

Higher fuel rates and interest rates are still expected to impact the ability of homeowners to maintain their mortgage responsibilities. With interest rates continuing a slow and steady rise, many borrowers will be facing higher monthly costs.

“Additional modest increases in delinquency and foreclosure rates are likely in the quarters ahead,” Duncan said.

The Many Benefits of Green Tea Extract

The Benefits of Green Tea Extract: Anti-Aging, Anti-Cancer, Weight Control

One of the great advancements in nutrition in the twenty-first century is the scientific confirmation of the many benefits of green tea extract. Here are just a few. Green tea:

  • Lowers cholesterol

  • Slows arthritis

  • Prevents the growth of cancer cells

  • Assists weight loss

What accounts for the health benefits of green tea extract? Over 1,800 scientific studies have found that the active constituents in green tea are powerful antioxidants. These are called polyphenols (catechins) and flavonols. Epigallocatechin gallate (you can just call it EGCG) is the most powerful of these antioxidants.
Milligram for milligram, EGCG has 25 to 100 times the antioxidant power of vitamins C and E. A cup of green tea has more antioxidants than a serving of broccoli, spinach, carrots or strawberries.

These abundant antioxidants power the benefits of green tea extract. They keep DNA intact and they stabilize the membranes of cells. These effects of green tea make it a powerful support in many health conditions. Let’s look at the benefits of green tea supplements in more detail.

Green tea has been shown to lower “bad” LDL cholesterol and serum triglyceride levels.

Who would have imagined that simple green tea could be as potent as Lipitor or Zocor or Crestin with none of their side effects? Scientific studies show that middle-aged men and women in Japan who drink 2 or more cups of green tea a day almost always have normal cholesterol. Scientists have also recently reported that if you drink green tea after you eat a fatty food, less cholesterol will go into you bloodstream.

And if you have high cholesterol when you begin taking green tea supplements, your body will convert less of it into a form that clogs your arteries.

Green tea protects your joints against osteoarthritis.

This is one of the least known but most beneficial effects of green tea extract. Green tea prevents inflammation. When there is less inflammation, there is less wear and tear on your joints.

Green tea prevents the growth of cancer cells.

The EGCG in green tea prevents cancer cells from growing by binding to a specific enzyme. This health benefit of green tea is especially important in cancers of the prostate, breast, and lung.

Researchers studied two groups of men who a pre-cancerous condition of the prostate. One consumed the equivalent of 12 to 15 cups of green tea a day. One did not. One year later, 30% of the men who did not consume green tea supplements developed prostate cancer. Only 3% of the men who took green tea supplements developed cancer.

Another of the benefits of green tea extract is support for women who have breast cancer. Green tea provides chemicals that bind estrogen. This hormone is not then free to stimulate breast cancer cells.

Women who consume the greatest amount of green tea before menopause have the least severe forms of breast cancer when the disease occurs. Women who drink green tea are less likely to have recurrences of breast cancer after treatment. And most important of all, women who consume green tea are 50% less likely to develop breast cancer at all.

Another of the benefits of green tea extract is protection against lung cancer.
The Japanese have both the highest rate of smoking and the lowest rate of lung cancer in the developed world. Japanese smokers who consume a lot of green tea seem to be protected against lung cancer.

And green tea can even help you lose weight. In a clinical trial, men eating a high-fat diet were given enough green tea provide the caffeine in a single cup of coffee. Although this amount of caffeine has no effect on weight loss, when the caffeine comes from green tea, it is highly significant.

The green tea supplement boosted the number of calories burned by 4.5%. While this is just 135 calories a day, the study showed that taking green supplements could help the average man on a high-fat diet lose 18 lbs (8 kg) in a year’s time. It could help the average woman on a high-fat diet lose 11 pounds (5 kg). This is without eating less or exercising more.

How Can I Take Green Tea?

The benefits of green tea extract are greatest if you take green tea supplements rather than drink green tea. A study in the December 2004 edition of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition confirmed that green supplements get more antioxidants into your bloodstream that drinking green tea. Two capsules of green tea extract a day can provide all the benefits of 20 cups of green tea-all you need to support even difficult health conditions.

Green tea is safe and effective. Take 1 to 3 capsules of green extract every day. It is better to take green tea supplements in the morning or afternoon rather than at night. In the unlikely event of stomach upset, take with food.

How to Avoid a Bad Mutual Fund

We have all heard the advantages of investing in a mutual fund
over trying to pick individual stocks. First of all mutual funds
hire professional analysts that are market experts and devout
many hours of study to the various stocks. Unless you want to
devout a large portion of your free time to the study of the
financial reports, you probably won’t have as much information
to make a decision as a mutual fund manager.

Then there is the well documented advantage of diversification.
Risk is reduced by holding several non correlated investments.
Put simply, some go up, some go down and combined, the return
levels off the fluctuations, or risk.

Finally, a mutual fund offers smaller investors a chance to
invest in small increments rather than having to save a large
chunk of cash to purchase 100 shares of stock.

Given the above advantages, it’s no wonder that mutual funds
have become a very popular form of investing. Now there are
thousands of mutual funds to choose from, so how does one make a
selection? Here are a few tips:

1. Do not be seduced to jump on the recently performing best
fund. It may seem like the safe and rational thing to do, but
like individual stocks, you want to buy low and sell high, not
buy high and pray for more growth. 2. Even good funds may not be
able to overcome the force of the overall market. You should be
looking for funds that can exceed the broad market without
increasing risk. Each fund has certain risk parameters that it
is required to follow. Read the prospectus closely to understand
what these are. 3. Limit the number of funds that you own.
Unless you are trying to simply achieve the same returns as the
broad market, diversifying into many mutual funds will not
reduce your risk or increase your return by much. 4. Funds that
become too popular and too big tend to slip in performance.
There are several reasons for this.

One final point to keep in mind is that the type of fund will
totally depend on your investment objectives. There are certain
funds that are designed for your objectives be they retirement,
income, growth, funding the kids college, etc.

Pearl jewelry with more designs is also a fashion trend in 2005. These designs take a classic style and make it even more sophisticated.

Below is a list of this year’s trends in pearl jewelry:

• Pearl earrings accented with diamonds, sapphires, or rubies. Gemstones add color brilliance to pearls, while bringing out their warmth and softness.

• Dangling pearl earrings or dramatic pendants. They move with you and are always eye-catching.

• Pearl jewelry in two-tone white and yellow gold settings.

• Pearl necklaces with diamond gold clasps, showing off the sparkle of the clasp and adding a distinctive look.

• Pearls in heart-shaped pendants or earrings, showing your love.

• Exotic South Sea or Tahitian pearl necklaces, white, golden, and multicolor, are simply breathtaking.

• Freshwater pearl necklaces with the look of South Sea or Tahitian Pearls are more affordable than ever.

• Black pearl necklaces showing the coolness and mysterious beauty.

• Necklaces or bracelets made of pearls and gold links are always luxurious and fashionable.

Has Anyone Seen My Twenties?

Premature aging is spreading across the UK and is particularly prevalent amongst recent graduates in the UK who, upon leaving university, are plunged straight into fears about the property ladder, pensions and paying off their student debts. These young people graduate at the age of 21, do not pass go and head straight to 35, worrying about their personal finance investments before finding their feet in life.

These un-twentysomethings lifestyles can generally categorised within two extremes, either not going out at all because they have no money or going out and partying every Friday and Saturday night, because they feel directionless. Groups such as these may not seem particularly worrying, but many graduates are finding that they are working themselves to the bone by taking on two jobs and working seven days a week just to meet their bills. Some young graduates are known to even take on multiple jobs so they can bolster up their salary details for mortgage applications. By doing so, they commit themselves to a loan that can only be repaid through exhaustion.

These characteristics have been assigned to the emergence of the quarter-life crisis, but this epidemic of financial concern tends to be a problem for those who have been through higher education, rather than those who took full time employment straight after leaving school. This represents a worrying trend given the government encouragement for increased school leavers to attend university.

UK graduates find it particularly tough as they are often groomed to believe that they can get good salaries and corporate jobs. Yet many young people leave university only to be hit by the hard reality that the competition is immense and that expectations must be lowered. Some graduates, unable to find work immediately after graduation, get themselves into further debt by taking out career development loans and other forms of commercial borrowing to undertake a further qualification.

Due to the volume of UK graduates on the market, the need to stand out has made life much more competitive. Contacts, professional qualifications, Masters degrees and relevant work experience are now required to help secure a “graduate” career.

Moneynet ( http://www.moneynet.co.uk ), a consumer finance website, released a recent report stating that graduates need to check their credit histories when they finish their courses. Richard Brown, the CEO of moneynet warned that graduates could face a credit history nightmare at the end of university due to relocation, late payments and low credit. Moneynet has taken steps to provide publications which can help students and their families finance higher education, but the sheer scale of the student market now dictates that financial problems go beyond a lack of financial planning.

According to Credit Action ( http://www.creditaction.org.uk/debtstats.htm ), a third of prospective students underestimate the cost of university, with 25% of freshers expecting their parents to foot the bill. Both parents and students apparently underestimate the true costs of university – parents by almost £4,000 and students by over £6,000. A quarter of parents state that they still have adult children living at home and over 14% of parents with adult children have remortgaged their homes or taken out loans to help their children out of the financial quagmire. Student debts and difficulties getting onto the first rung of the housing ladder are given as the main reasons for offspring being unable to leave home. First-time buyers are being required to save harder and for longer to secure their first home, in spite of a supposedly cooling housing market.

It also seems that parents who try to help out their offspring by giving cash to get them out of their financial struggles may be doing more harm than good according to the NatWest. The report shows that those who accepted payouts from their parents were 25% more likely to then go overdrawn in the future than those who didn’t take this form of financial help. Overall a third of young people said their parents had never taught them how to manage their money. If you’re a parent and concerned that your children need help with managing their pocket-money, moneynet offers a family finance guide with a few suggestions. It doesn’t offer a magical solution to student debt, but it might provide some help in financial management.

Do We Really Need God?

The human being is endowed with ability. We have the capacity to do things. However, our ability is inherently limited. The human being is not almighty and so cannot accomplish all things. Because human capability is finite we find that a person cannot by his own powers alone ensure the success of all his pursuits and undertakings in life. A human being is not able to ensure his good health and the safety of his life at all times. A human being is not able to ensure his welfare throughout life. The fact that we experience anxiety, worry, fear and doubt is clear indication that our ability is not always sufficient to handle life’s hazards, difficulties and challenges.

We all desire happiness, good health and success in life. Yet on our own we cannot guarantee the attainment or maintenance of this state of things we desire. What this means is that for us to satisfy these cravings we need help from a power much greater than ourselves. This almighty power we need is God.

The human being, obviously, needs the help of God in order to live a completely happy and successful life.

Mankind’s need for God has always been there. Our search after Him is an age-long one. The early man, undoubtedly, had to face great odds in his struggle for survival. The hazards he had to contend with were indeed enormous. He had little protection against the elements. He was prone to ravage by disease. There was the ever present risk of being devoured by wild animals. He was not always sure of getting the food he needed. There was no guarantee he would succeed whenever he left his cave to roam the wild in search of food. There was also the risk of being struck down by other savages. He did come to realize that on his own he could not cope successfully with life’s hazards and challenges. He did feel the need to reach out to a power much greater than himself to help ensure his safety and survival. His worship of rivers, trees, hills and other objects was obviously undertaken in the hope of getting the help and protection he evidently needed.

Our circumstances today are a lot different. Yet we still have to face hazards, difficulties and challenges which we cannot always meet successfully as a result of natural limitations in our ability. Now think about this. That pursuit or undertaking which means so much to you, maybe it is an examination, or a job interview or a business deal maybe it is an official task or a performance or some treatment you are undergoing, are you able to ensure that it will turn out successfully? Can you ensure that the next time you wave goodbye to your loved ones and leave home, you will not be killed in a road mishap? That you will not wake up tomorrow to find that you have a malignant tumour that will claim your life within a few weeks? Are you able to ensure that you will not lose your job and so find yourself unable to provide for yourself and your loved ones? That your business will not fail and you fall into financial ruin? What about the safety and well-being of your loved ones? Can you guarantee that the loved one who went shopping will not be shot dead in an attack by armed robbers? Are you able to guarantee that your child who left for school happily in the morning will not be abducted and not make it back home alive? That loved whose return you are eagerly awaiting, can you ensure that he or she will not be killed in a car or a plane crash, that your reunion will not take place at the morgue? Can you ensure that the loved one who is so alive and well today will not succumb to illness in the days ahead and you find yourself plunged into grief?

The possibilities that a person will experience failure or misfortune in life are endless. The simple fact is that we need the help of God in order to successfully face the hazards, difficulties and challenges of life. Life cannot be completely happy and successful without God.

Hot Tub Parties

Filed under:The Gardening Way — posted on @ 7:04 am

Casual Hot Tub Parties

People are continually looking for fun, easy and relaxing ways of having a party or other gathering for their friends. Obviously, there are a whole host of ways in which a nice, fun party can be organized for friend and family.

Some people are particularly fond of hosting get-togethers and parties around swimming pools and hot tubs. Indeed, a hot tub party can be a most enjoyable and relaxing way of spending time with friends and family.

The first point to consider when contemplating pulling together a casual hot tub party is who should be on your invitation list. In the grand scheme of things, when it comes to a casual hot tub party, it is likely best and most appropriate to invite those people who you actually do know well.

There is a level of intimacy associated with a casual hot tub party — and we are not speaking of a romantic style gathering at this juncture. Rather, by the very nature of a hot tub party, men and women will be in a state of attire — swim wear — that can make strangers uncomfortable. Thus, again, when contemplating the guest list for a hot tub party, it is best to include only those friends and family members who you are close with. Likewise, your guests will be more comfortable if they generally know the other guests at the party. In the end, you will want your guests to be comfortable. Uneasy guests make for an uncomfortable party.

Another point to consider when contemplating pulling together a casual hot tub party is the need to have other activities available for some of your party guests. No matter what combination of people you invite to a casual hot tub party, there will always be some guests who simply do not want to sit in a hot tub at a social gathering. Thus, in order to be a good host or hostess, it is important for you to have other activities at a casual hot tub gathering for this group of guests. And, by activities, you can merely set up something as simple as a comfortable area in which your guests not interested in the hot tub can sit and visit in a relaxed manner.

Of course, as a final note, when it comes to a hot tub party, keep items made of glass to a minimum. You could invest in some accessories. Serve beverages in plastic tumblers, for example. And serve food on plastic or even heavy duty paper plates. One broken glass in or near a hot tub truly can bring a party to a grinding halt.
