Yahoo to Prohibit Competitive Keyword Bids Containing Trademarks

Yahoo Search Marketing (searchmarketing.yahoo.com) has recently
announced its advertisers of a new policy to be implemented as
of March 1st 2006, concerning the use of trademarks within their
products and services *.

Under the new policy, no reference to a trademark can be made
(except for ads placed by the trademark owners themselves,
obviously), and consequently no bids can be make for keywords
containing such trademarks. Exceptions refer to usage of
trademarks in non-competitive ads, such as those made by
re-sellers, or in informative (and still non-competitive) ads.

The previous policy allowed references to competitors’
trademarks and comparisons as long as they were “objective and
informative” - the formulation makes me cringe, as it is clearly
troublesome trying to evaluate one’s objectivity when speaking
of business competitors. As for the “informative” side of it…
the probability for someone to actually PAY for an ad to be
informative of someone else’s product/service, that’s as
believable just like the existence of Santa Claus.

It is really good to see Yahoo making a big step forward in
regulating abuse and misuse of trademarks, even though that
probably translates in some revenue loss for them, by having
certain advertisers migrate to a “friendlier” place such as
Google. According to Google’s policies, “[…] advertisers may
select trademarked terms as keywords or use them in the content
of the ad. As a provider of space for advertisements, Google is
not in a position to arbitrate trademark disputes between
advertisers and trademark owners. As stated in our Terms and
Conditions, advertisers are responsible for the keywords and ad
text that they choose to use. Accordingly, Google encourages
trademark owners to resolve their disputes directly with the
advertiser, particularly because the advertiser may have similar
ads on other sites. However, as a courtesy to trademark owners,
Google is willing to perform a limited investigation of
reasonable complaints.”

The question is why would Yahoo change its policies and
apparently offer Google an even bigger bite from the SEM cake?
It is way too early to say now, and their official explanation
is not entirely believable: Yahoo states to have had the users’
best interest in mind, by providing them with a better
experience when searching terms that contain trademarks. Though
this would make a laudable initiative with a good PR potential,
experts know the search market is driven by large publishers and
advertisers and not by the little surfing guys. Numerous
speculations can be made: threats of large legal actions from
trademark owners, pressure from certain groups of interests are
among the most vehiculated ones. However, a more plausible one
is that Yahoo makes preparations for a much larger scale
movement destined to influence the market in a manner we cannot
anticipate just yet.

Until further industry news, there’s one thing to rejoice: from
now on, no “better than Botox” ads on Yahoo and their partner
sites!

* - the products and services covered by the new policy are:
Sponsored Search, Local Advertising, Search Submit, Product
Submit, Travel Submit and Directory Submit.

Viral Mutations Of Email List Building: Creating New Strands! Part 1

Filed under:Great Marketing Tips — posted on @ 6:04 am

The virus known as influenza has been around for thousands of
years. Yet, no one on the face of the earth has ever been able
to beat or destroy this damaging virus. This virus has become
unstoppable, and has stood the test of time. Now what does this
have to do with building your email list?

Well building your email list should have the same
characteristics and dynamics of the influenza virus. What makes
the flu virus so unstoppable is its ability to produce an
unlimited number of new strands every year. This virus
constantly mutates and forms new strands, making it hard for
researchers to counteract its destruction.

Your list building efforts should also have this constantly
changing aspect to it. In the same way the flu virus
constantly makes new strands, you also want to consistently make
new viral implementations to your list building efforts that
will gradually increase the growth and momentum of your list
overtime. These little small viral implementations will make the
growth of your email list unstoppable.

The viral list building implementations should include any
method, strategy, or technique that has the power to
exponentially grow your email list just from others passing your
information or link around. Making new viral implementations
will actually build an automatic list building machine, making
your list appear as if it has a life of its own! Your list will
actually become a living, breathing, cyber organism that has the
goal of conquering as much of its niche as it can! It will
function as an actual flu virus.

Now listed below are a couple of ways you can make viral
implementations to your list building efforts. Consider each of
these new implementations as viral strands, where if one strand
is conquered, the others are still actively and virally working
for you. You want to create as many of these viral strands of
marketing as you can. Make sure you implement each of these
methods below into your list building campaign.

Method #1: Offer A Free Product Download

Offering a free product download is a powerful way to get your
marketing message out. You can easily create a free report
within your niche that others can easily pass around . Within
the report are links to your newsletter or ezine opt in landing
page.

You can also create free software to give away. This actually
works a little better than giving away a free ebook or report.

Method #2: Have JV Partners And Affiliates Market The Free
Product

Next, you should supercharge method #1 by having jv partners and
affiliates pass around your free product. One way you can do
this is by branding the free product with a link that will make
your affiliates, and your jv partners commissions. This is known
as an affiliate program, and it is one of the most powerful
forms of viral marketing right now!

If you are looking for sure online marketing success, I highly
recommend that you start an affiliate program in your particular
niche within the next 7 days. If you do not have a product yet,
hire ghostwriters from Elance to create a product for you. Set
up your affiliate program, and use your affiliates to virally
pass around a free product or report that will advertise your
product, ezine or newsletter.

This one method can literally skyrocket the size of your list in
days!

Method #3: Give Master Resell Rights

Master resell rights is when an individual has the rights to
sell your product and earn 100% of all the income generated. You
can also give the person who bought your resell rights, the
opportunity to establish his or her own affiliate program.
Therefore, using this method will create a means for his
affiliates to market your products or newsletter list. Imagine
having thousands of affiliates actively marketing your
newsletter or ezine list! Can you just imagine the results!

So are you beginning to see the viral power of all this?

If so, be on the lookout for Part 2 of this article on more

5 Extremely Valuable Search Engine Optimization Tips

Filed under:World Of SEO — posted on @ 5:40 am

Search engine optimization is THE most cost effective way for a company to market their products and services. Below are 5 extremely valuable search engine optimization tips:

1. Content is Key

Webmasters are extremely concerned with optimizing their code and as a result, they often forget about optimizing the content. As optimization tips go, this is one you should pay close attention to. The first 200 words of your home page should be loaded with keywords, this includes your headline. Some search engines, particularly those that ignore meta tags, will actually use the first few lines of text (including the headline) as your site description.

2. Utilize Static HTML

You don’t need a “dynamic” website unless you have dynamic content, such as airline seat availability and pricing which needs to be dynamically published from a database because it constantly changes. You may store your website in a database but you’re better off publishing it as a static HTML website. It’s cheaper, the pages will download faster, and search engines will find it easier to comprehensively index your website.

The less HTML code you have, the better, as it makes it easier and faster for the search engine to index your page. Aim for a total page weight of 50 KB for any page (that’s including graphics). Certainly, anything over 100 KB is going to be slow, and some search engines don’t like pages that are over 100 KB.

3. The Title Tag is Critical

The title tag is the single most important piece of content for people who search. Keep it short: Don’t have more than 60 characters (with spaces), which is roughly 8-10 words. Lead with the most important careword for that particular page. Always start off with what is specific about the page and move to what is general. Many websites begin their title with their brand or organization name, and then follow with what is unique about the page. (This is a very common mistake, so check out your website.)

4. Optimize Your Images

This is another optimization tip that many people forget about. However, through use of your “alt” image attribute tag, you can slip in an extra keyword phrase or two that describes the picture users are about to see. The text only shows up when the user has turned off the ‘view images’ option in their browser or the image fails to load. But some search engine robots will pick it up too and the extra keywords could help your ranking. So take a few seconds to implement this optimization tip on your site and you could see improved results soon.

5. Why You Shouldn’t Optimize Your Own Site

While we have given you some basic optimization tips to help you quickly boost your search engine ranking, we still recommend that you hire a Search Engine Optimization professional for the best results. Search engines change their guidelines regularly, making it impossible for any one or two people to stay on top of all the changes while still running their business. What was a great optimization tip yesterday, could get your site blacklisted today. Your SEO professional will watch over your site as if it was our own, ensuring your site is always running in peak form. For example, we predicted many of the guideline changes Google made in November of 2003, saving many of our customers from the massive fall in rankings most experienced.

Caring for Orchids

Filed under:The Gardening Way — posted on @ 5:30 am

Orchids have an undeserved reputation for being difficult to
grow and care for in the home. This probably stems from the
early years of orchid cultivation when orchids imported from the
tropics died so frequently in English greenhouses that botanist
John Lindley referred to England as “a cemetery for orchids”.
While it is difficult to grow orchids from seed - it requires a
specialized growing medium and 3-4 years worth of patience -
once mature, most orchids are as easy to care for as any other
houseplant - and easier than most.

Growing Medium Most orchids are epiphytic - that is, they take
their nutrients from the air. They may grow on bark, sphagnum
moss, cork plaques or in gravel or charcoal. With very rare
exceptions, do NOT pot orchids in potting soil.

Watering The best rule of thumb is to mist plants every few days
with distilled water, and only water when the potting medium is
nearly dry. Because there are so many varieties of orchids, it’s
important to consult an orchid book or follow the plant’s
watering directions.orchid
care

Light A sunny windowsill is a good place for your orchids. In
winter or in northern states, natural sunlight may need to be
supplemented with gro-lights or other fluorescent lights to
ensure that your orchids get enough light. In midsummer or in
southern states, many orchids may require some protection from
the bright sun. Watch leaves for signs of sunburn or lack of
light and adjust accordingly.

Circulating Air is an often overlooked necessity for orchids.
Because most orchids take their nutrients directly from the air,
they do best when there is a steady, constant stream of air
around them. A small fan or an open window will provide enough
air flow to keep them happy.

CRUSHED HOPES AND DREAMS

CRUSHED HOPES AND DREAMS

Jeremiah 29 verse 11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

I have been serving the Lord for over 18 years. I am not just a Sunday church goer; I have a daily relationship with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I remember the day the Lord called me aside, and said “I want you to work for me. I will be with you and I will use you in great ways.” I said, “Lord, why don’t you choose someone else, someone with more theological background and experience?” He replied, “I have chosen you and I will be with you.” The next morning I awoke at 5:00 AM, and the Lord spoke to me and said, “Turn on the TV.” I did, and there was Gomer , of the Gomer Pyle TV show saying, “Don’t choose me, choose someone more experienced.” They chose him to be on a recruiting poster, and on the corner of the recruiting picture of Gomer was an eye, Sergeant Carter’s eye overlooking him. The Lord spoke to me through this and said, “Just like Sergeant Carter overlooking Gomer, my all seeing eye will be overlooking you.”

Since that 1987 experience, the Lord has used me in many ways. During this time, I have experienced many crushed hopes and dreams. Often, plans that I thought would work out, didn’t. I’ve experienced the hopelessness of poverty, the stigma of rejection, the burden of being a single parent, the pain of loneliness, and more. I’ve had my share of sickness, and heartbreak of losing loved ones. I’ve been wounded beside the road, bruised, knocked down, shot at, cursed out, and falsely accused. I would have some mountaintop experiences and then things happened that brought me crashing to the ground. I’ve had my seasons with the darkness of depression. I’ve stood silently by and watched others prosper and gain recognition while I floundered in hopeless circumstances. All of these trials caused me to turn to my Lord in prayer, search the scriptures, and humbled me down to recognize without Him, I am nothing. I know that my Redeemer lives, and that he loves and cares for me.

Many times I would read about the Apostle Paul and some of the things he had suffered. I read how the Lord delivered him and was with him. One of my favorite scriptures is Acts Chapter 27 verse 20 “And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.” During some of my deepest trials, I would feel this way. Then I read verse 25, “Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told to me.” Paul had prayed, and the Lord promised deliverance, and it came to pass.

The Lord has graciously given me a gift of writing so I could share with others the great things he has done in my life. Jesus suffered many things, Paul suffered many things, and others have too. These sufferings draw us closer to our Savior, and makes us realize that God is in control of the affairs of men. The Lord has delivered me from many trials, rescued me when I was about to sink, provided for me in miraculous ways, and answered many, many prayers. He allowed me to write a book, My Walk with the Lord, that records testimonies of how he has worked in my life. I have learned, beyond a shadow of doubt, even if I did not understand, that the Lord has a time and a purpose for everything under heaven.

Are your hopes crushed? Is your world falling apart? Are you in circumstances beyond your control? Look to Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith. He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Jeremiah 29 verses 12 and 13 “Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye search for me with all your heart.”
